Pair DCers with other DCers since they understand each other
Anytime a thread starts about punishment for DC you get people coming out in droves supporting DC because “addons OP,” “real life stuff happens,” “it’s only a game,” and so on.
So instead of bans or timeouts I have a simple fix, stick people with other people who DC the same amount. The 0-1 range, 2-5 range, 6-10 range and then 10+ or something like that and reset each week when shrine resets.
This way if their teammate gets downed by Spirit and DCs they’ll have no problem continuing the game because they understand why they quit. And the killer can’t get mad because he just quit his last few games too because the survivors used a map offering and insta heals.
this means by the end of the week if you don’t have any DCs you’ll know you’re going into a game with teammates who stick it out no matter what.

Please do this, BHVR

Nah nah not each week, i suggest you keep it that way for at least a month or even longer so we can make some conclusions how this actually affected the gameplay for normal people.

They don't understand eachother though. More often than not someone who explicitly endorses "their side" disconnecting against spirit/on haddonfield will condemn "the other side" for doing it.
Could be entertaining though 😄

But what about people who have genuinely DCd through no fault of their own? I think I've DCd 3 or 4 times in total - but it was NEVER on purpose. Why should I get stuck with a bunch of DCers because my Internet F'd up a few times??
And what about killers who DC? Are they gonna get put with survivors who DC? In certain situations this could literally make matches impossible to play.
There should be a certain limit, like if you DC more than 5 times in a week or month then you get put with the others. DCing 1 or 2 times shouldn't be penalised as it could be genuine.

Yeah for real I have accidentally DC due to connection before.

you can definitely tell apart people who unwillingly DC and people who press leave match/cut Internet connection when implementing an feature like this. just wish they would already Dark souls/Overwatch have already done this
4 -
honestly, i would like that.
that would also mean, that if not many DCed like 10+ times, those who did will wait very long for their lobbies for a week, which imo would be justified and might get them to rethink their life choices.

Friday the 13th does this. In their game they called it the salt mine.

The ranges may need work, like 0-2 disconnects are all together. I have had a RARE DC myself, if I get put with other people who have 1 DC I’m fine with that, just keep me out of games with people who have already left 20 games this week.

Ya that would be great like Friday did

The game can tell the difference between a legit DC and hitting the "leave match" button. Thats why sometimes you'll have someone DC without the sound effect. No sound effect=legit DC. Sound effect=rage quit.

If rank mattered, maps were balanced, and the game was balanced to SWF, you'd have less DCing. DCing is a symptom, not the disease.

Surivors DCing is a problem. Killers are just forfeiting.

The problem atm is that we can't actually talk about why we may personally dc. The mods send warnings for that, apparently.
You can't really lump everybody who dces together, though. Sure, you get the lowest of the low that do it just because they're losing. I know I've had my fair share of teabaggers that'll dc the moment you minegame them out of a loop.
But at the same time, you can have people dcing for other reasons, such as 4k slugging and leaving all four to bleed out, or a doc that'll three gen and leave it at that. So, is that worth dcing? That's up to players to decide. In a lot of cases, it comes off as a symptom, as a previous post said.
It's give and take. Maybe if there was a system in place that lowered the amount of gens needed for each dc? Or survivors gained some time limited boost when somebody dces? I don't know, and again, I agree it can be annoying. But to lump it all together and treat it as one issue is a bit short sighted.

Exactly. DBD needs something like F13's Salt Mines, where every toxic player gets paired with themselves for a time period. Would work immensely, considering the (probably large) DC ratio of each match.

If you're not a serial DC'er it's fine. The serial DC'ers will have dozens of DC's. You will match up with people who only DC 1-4 times as well.
The real problem with this system, is it probably won't work because Matchmaking can't even match ranks properly, what makes you think it can match DC's properly on top of that?

Yes

Justifying DCs is a problem too. You know what I do when I get paired against iridescent hunters, play it out and try to pip even if I don’t escape. You know what I do as killer when I get SWF on haddonfield, play it out and earn some BPs.

This will only make the excessively long queue times even longer. I wish we had real stats for all the platforms... DbD is pretty damn high on steam usage, but people still say queue times are long. IMO, the player base just isn't big enough to handle match making in any reasonable way, which is why it has such a rank buffer.
I know the answer a lot of people will give, "i'd rather wait longer and not get a DC, than be matched with a DC".

Agreed. DC is a Symptom, NOT the core problem. Here is from my standpoint of view. Talking with the person(s) that DC. I dont rage at them. I conduct a civil discussion.
Common-core reason: "THis game is not balanced, and we felt the need to DC. Out of RAGE. "
End game collapse is the #1 reason for disconnections. When I tested this back on the PTR. Revision 1. was AMAZING. It lit the WHOLE ground up and the killers could NOT see the tracks of the survivor. The exit gates were PROPERLY SPACED apart.
I submitted the suggestion that lights on the gates would NOT light up and the buzzers stopped working. With ECG being a total of 10 minutes lasting. 2 minutes is TOO SHORT. 5 minutes still isn't enough for good plays.
Reason 2. Was bad survivor plays. survivors that hook-point farm causing the issues. Bad team mates. doing bad things to troll their survivor. DC> so it ends. and punishes them for farming in the first place.
Reason 3. Too many locator perks. Remember, the killer wields WEAPONS and the Survivor does NOT. THey have pallet loops jungle gyms and "Dwight lockers". nobody likes being a dwight and hiding in a locker to counter a Radar perk.

So why do we want to make wait times longer
0 -
Because I would rather wait 10 minute for a full game than 5 for a game where half my team DC when they hear a chainsaw

Can BHVR track who pushes the <options> and <leave match> buttons? I would think that’s possible. This could ensure we don’t put people with legit connection issues into these groups.
0 -
People can still work around that by unplugging their modem or turning off router, etc
0 -
Yes, I made a video about this a few times actually... F13's salt mines might be a great solution.
1 -
Absolutely true! It doesn’t fix all situations, but it fixes quite a few. This is because people don’t all have the same setup.
If I wanted to unplug my modem or router, I need to walk to a different room first. That may not be the case for you, but it is for me and a great many others.
If I want to end the program or unplug my console, I’ve just wasted a whole lot of my own time getting back into the game. (Ooooh, yaaaay. The Trapper just smacked Jake. Agaaaain)
If someone is set up to pull their connection quickly, there’s a decent chance they already do that anyway. For those that must use the “leave match” option in the program, it becomes more convenient to just finish the match. And finally, people who truly lose their connection, or get bugged out of the match, do not get punished.
I feel that improving the DC issue is good progress, even if some people can circumvent it. This is better than letting it persist, or worsen, while looking for some 100% perfect solution (which probably doesn’t exist).

This sounds like a hilarious and effective idea, please BHVR, add this.
