As A New Player, This Disappoints Me

Yes I know it doesn't help to complain about the event being delayed, but it looks so unprofessional to me.

I started playing this game in August and I have gotten up to 500 hours so far. I was super excited for the Halloween event, since it will be the first event in DBD that I will participate in. Plus, the skins look awesome.

However, the event being delayed is super disappointing. Why didn't they at least delay it more than 19 hours before it was supposed to launch? I seriously doubt that the issues that the devs described only appeared as they were about to launch it. They must have known a little bit before that.

Yes i'd rather have a working and less buggy version of the event, but the minuscule amount of communication that the devs made with their playerbase was pretty shocking. No tweets, no forum posts, heck not even info in the stream (as far as I was aware).

My only wish is that communication improves and the devs are more open about the issues they face with the game in regards to the causes of delays on major updates. I would even be happy if they didn't say what the issue is, and instead gave more notice.

500 hours since August. . . my god.

Honestly, I don't see why postponing the event is such a big deal. It just delays the rewards. Not like we'll be doing anything knew.

There was a tweet earlier that the event passed Xbox certification, it just needs to pass Sony before they release it on all platforms. So, take it up with Sony and the PS4.

Don't blame PS4 for making sure this late event doesn't break our systems. And everything on Twitter is true, I'm sure.

I can wait for an update if it means the quality of said update is better. I'd be angrier if the update came out rushed and broken, so taking the time to make sure everything is up to snuff is, while disappointing to wait longer for, is highly appreciated.

Bear in mind that wasn't an official tweet, it was from LeaksByDaylight. I only mention it because last time Leaks got something wrong, everyone acted like the devs had lied to them when BHVR themselves had never announced anything. Most of the time their information is correct, so it is hopeful news, but just remember nothing they post is 100% confirmed.

What's got your britches in a bunch? So the event had been delayed. You make it sound like your grandmother is being held hostage.

I may not be an expert on how releases work, but I can use common sense. Any PC update needs to pass console inspection. While the original delay is on the devs, it is slowed down by the console process. Nowhere did I say the devs are free of blame. I simply meant that however long it takes now, it's on Sony. That's not a bad thing, and why you make it seem like such is beyond me. Again, an event was delayed. Big whoop.

    It’s ok to feel upset/disappointed.

Honestly I’m so tired of every person in here that acts are if we aren’t humans capable of feeling.

BHVR has had delays and I’m sure this won’t be the last one, but I can honestly say they are one of the best dev teams I have seen (Having experienced other dev teams and their communication).

Hopefully the event is worth the wait and We get more communication as it gets closer.

That's how thing's will end up, especially since there's an engine update in the mix. Last time we had one of those it was a horrid mess.

  • Fibijean
    Fibijean Member Posts: 8,342

That's exactly what makes my feelings about this so mixed. On the one hand, it's only a week or two, it's good that they're fixing the bugs, etcetera. But on the other hand, it's lunacy to update the engine, the foundations of the game, so soon before the release of a major update. Of course it's going to break the update. Perhaps the explanation wasn't well worded and it wasn't like that at all, but it just seems like really bad planning and something the developers could absolutely have anticipated and worked to prevent.

I'm gladded it delayed kinda. All the sweats will be getting their grind on a little later. Enough time for me to get my regular matches in before it comes.

Maybe the update needed needed this engine update in order to be made.

  • Fibijean
    Fibijean Member Posts: 8,342

If that had been the case, they would have built it on the updated engine from the start, and there shouldn't have been so many problems. The status update made it sound like they built the patch and then updated the engine, which then broke parts of the patch.

They probably thought/hoped they would be able to fix the patch in the time.

Sony has a horrid verification system, the ps4 just struggles to run any game that isn't made by triple A devs, and most people complaint about bugs are ps4 players. Your console is just sucky and so is the behind the scenes.

blees your soul's if you guys really think the patch will have no gamebreaking bugs because they had more time now, this is still bhvr my dudes.

You might want to fact check your statements. The PS4 was released in 2013. The PS5 will be released in 2020. That’s a 7 year difference, which is 1 year longer than the PS3 to PS4 transition. Your understanding of “exclusives” is entertaining, and your last statement is of no relevance. Just because the developer used a PC to write the software, doesn’t mean that it runs equally or better on the PC. Is your PC a good rice cooker?

Since you're a NEW player (500 hours since August)

Enjoy this game as much as you can, some moments of me playing back then gives me hardcore massive nostalgia and makes me want to play.

It’s one thing to be upset, but it’s another thing to just call them flat out incompetent.

Unforeseen circumstances happen in every industry. In most games, too. Like Watchdogs Legion, Persona 5... so on. Games can be delayed, so can updates.

Finished content is better than unfinished. BHVR is a company which doesn’t have crunch time, and has a new major feature being launched into the game, with the addition of a new cosmetic item. No crunch time means that things can take a bit longer.

Give it time, it’s worth the wait. I think so, anyway.

Plus the event is involved in said new feature, and for the most part generators and hooks would only provide bonus BP (at least, I think).

I expect bugs, that’s normal. But if they’re minimized? I’m happy.

The best thing we can do is twiddle our thumbs, maybe play darts, and just be patient.

But they have to had some type of fixes done I mean its been 8 days lmfao

  • Watery
    Watery Member Posts: 1,168

    Persona Five took five years.

Watchdogs Legion isn’t even out yet.

Just because eight days have passed doesn’t mean anything, really. OW event was delayed a week also. This stuff can take time.

  • MrsMaliciousX
    MrsMaliciousX Member Posts: 747

No no I understand that it takes time.

People are upset with the fact that they gave us a date it was going to come out.

Less than 24 hours before said update they said that it had to be postponed.. Again that's fine

But then they go radio silent until people keep blowing up twitter and this place looking for answers. But then again they say what they said and that was that. Now im not saying that they have to give us a step by step of what's going on.

But they truly can't sit here and say "This is your game not ours" when we just wanna know whats going on. I get that they can't give us a date, but they should have thought about that before they gave us one in the first place.

Because now we are back to the clown update..All over again.

I think people aren’t focusing on the “unforeseen circumstances”. Maybe something happened. Le shrug

  • MrsMaliciousX
    MrsMaliciousX Member Posts: 747

No Im looking at the whole picture.

I don't care about extra cosmetics lol. I rarely use them anyways, Its about being told one thing which yes ######### happens it does, then they say that they will keep us posted. I don't know if the ######### up was on their end or just a minor bug that slipped through but then they posted their update the 25th, then they said that they are going to have twitch rivals, Which I see ending horribly seeing that theres no update && how perks are still broken af. Honestly its a mess, Just like it was with the clown DLC and how xbox and ps4 people had to wait WEEKS after, then on top of that I think it was Japan that had to wait I think like 2 more weeks after the ps4 got theirs just to get theirs, These are things that need to be tested TIME AND TIME AND TIME AGAIN to make sure its going to be work AT YOUR RELEASE DATE.

the funny thing is, when they release the patch it will be full of bugs anyways, because thats what always happens. On the other hand, when even they say its to buggy to release, you know the shiit is serious.

  • MrsMaliciousX
    MrsMaliciousX Member Posts: 747

    Honestly,

They tried to do to much too fast

    and probably broke the update.

PS4, PS4 slim, P$4 pro are the 3 current releases for the PlayStation alone. (Don't even look at xbox with 5 different versions) so unless you're blind it's pretty obvious they'll sell barely upgraded versions for even more.

As a consumer how can you possibly enjoy exclusives? They limit what you play on specific hardware you have to buy. One of the major selling points of our "free market" capitalist economy is consumer choice. Is being forced to buy a console just to play a single game you want very choice friendly?

I understand there are differences in console hardware and what needs to be developed to run on the myriad of PC hardware. However, consoles are edging closer and closer to being Steam Boxes anyways. Compressed PCs you don't have to build but lack all of the freedom and usability. They're even running on similar architecture and hardware now.

The only console I condone is the Switch, and solely because it does what no other console (or non-gaming laptop) can actually do with it's mobility. I heavily dislike having to buy titles on the Switch when I'd rather play them on my PC, unless it's a game I'd like to play on the go. Then I would CHOOSE to buy it on the Switch instead of having no other option.

Hate to break it to you, but a console is nothing more than a PC with a proprietary OS that restricts what it can be used for. Its still just a processor, gpu, ram and drive.

  • justarandy
    justarandy Member Posts: 1,711

It's not slowed down by the consoles, it's a requirement already known so it has to be calculated into the plan beforehand. I'm not complaining tho cuz idc when the event drops, just wanted to make this part clear

  • justarandy
    justarandy Member Posts: 1,711

Nothing bad about it honestly. They could just say nothing instead. I rather get a date and delay than nothing and just a suprise update when finished
