Do you own the game?

I originally started playing this game because of a gamepass quest and once i got into it I eventually got a lot of my friends to join me through gamepass too. Despite the fact that i don't own the game I have bought the Halloween, Leatherface, Ghostface, and Stranger things DLCs. I also plan on getting the Ash, Saw and Nightmare dlc

This feels pretty stupid since obviously if they take it off gamepass i would lose access to the game (and my possibly my group of friends who play depending on how many of us are willing to buy it)

So im wondering how uncommon our situation is, playing on gamepass and spending money on dlc/auric cells

It's a subscription service on xbox and PC (Dead by daylight is on both) that gives you access to a bunch of different games for "free" but you don't own any of them. Some games haven't left since the service started but there's always a handful that leave every month when new ones get added so there's no guarantee that dbd will stay forever

Yes, I've owned the game since it released on PS4 in 2017...man, how time flies.

I don't see an issue with it. If it ever leaves game pass you could buy the game and have everything you bought still there.

You could also buy it while its on game pass anyway to get a discount if you wanted.

I got it for free last year on ps plus. And I still suck at looping. Lol

Bought it on a free weekend sale on Steam some time last year.

Also got it on PS4 for free with Plus.

I don’t really play the game anymore. Living conditions have changed, new rules, mental state... only allowed on games for daily stuff - which consists of Warframe daily login, which I also don’t play anymore, and some orders in For Honor which I play the most - and after 7pm until 10pm.

My PC takes ages to start up and there’s no point losing an hour just to start it, and losing time because of the ‘rank update error’ bug that was plaguing me every time I finished a match. Game even crashed on rank reset because the error came up **before I loaded in** which was just a total time waste and I ended up going back to For Honor.

In short, though I own the game properly on one platform and on subscription on another, I don’t play it anymore due to time constraints and lack of reason to do so.

The only ones who actually "own" this game are those who bought physical copies of xbox, ps4 or switch. still waiting for the day they change the way digital ownership works :(

As @hinoutoumei pointed out, unless you have a physical disc, technically none of us own our copy of the game because DRMs.

Bought it 2 years ago for my birthday (then it went on a bloody discount 2 days later)

It's dirt cheap at this point but in-game you can spend a LOT of money for just unlocking characters and then 200 times that much for cosmetics so ...

I got a physical copy on release day for PS4 (despite seeing Destructoid review of 3/10!).

Was then nice to get it on PS Plus so I don't have to bother with the disc anymore.

Its often on sale for console so I assume if it ever leaves gamepass you could pick it up again for a decent price.

The question was in the Title. Do you own the game? Everyone is just saying a different form of "yes", lol.

Yes, I own it. I bought it around June of this year for PC. I bought one on PS4 for my son for his birthday about a year ago, so he has it too.

Well technically NOBODY owns the game because like many online games today it's a "Games as a Service" meaning you don't actually own the game, you are just paying for the privilege to play it while it's around. This isn't like Counterstrike 1.6 where you could host your own games without needing to bother anyone else.

This game will not work without BHVR in the background because it needs servers and matchmaking. You don't even have any saved games all the saved games are up there in BHVR's cloud.

NONE of us own the game. Only BHVR owns it, and we simply are given the privilege of playing it by paying for it, one way or another.

If BHVR goes under or decides to stop supporting the game, the game disappears and none of us can do anything about it, because we don't actually own the game.

I got the game on Gamepass, bought all the killers and one or two cosmetics for them.

I thought about buying the game just to be safe and to support the team, but I haven't played in weeks and I'm not sure I care to anymore.

Yeah I "own" it. I've thought about doing game pass but considering how little I use my other subscription services I'd probably just be throwing more money away
