Why doesn't BHVR block certain words in post match chat?

    From the Dead by Daylight EULA;

While participating in the Game, you also agree to comply with certain rules of conduct that govern your use of the Game (“Rules of Conduct”), for example you may not:

eHarass, threaten, embarrass, or do anything else to another user that is unwanted, such as repeatedly sending unwanted messages or making personal attacks or statements about race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated.

I personally just ignore it. They're just words. But certain things are technically against the EULA of the game.

Other than a lack of empathy, IDK why anyone would have a problem with an opt-out chat filter like many games have. Just because you're an epic capital-G Gamer that doesn't have any emotional reaction to "just words bro xD" doesn't mean everyone is.

They should add a profanity filter. I'm not sure how me getting called wh0re, b**h, or death threats against myself and even my family have anything to do with freedom of speech. All it's doing is giving power to a-holes and bullies.

A survivor once said I hope that I and my family all died in a fiery bus crash. They made it implicit that the bus would explode. Some people are just mean. They need mental health to look at their anger issues.

Someone being insulted? Or what you made it sound like they abused the person in question, sure people are rude but limiting speech for everyone wont solve anything. If anything came from it it would be worse as more and more restrictions came in because people didnt get insulted and didnt grow a thicker skin.

    @Peanits

    Thank you for the response.

I can definitely see how many would just alter the spelling of the word. It is nice to know that you guys keep it in mind for the future.

As I pointed out in the OP, I was playing a different game where someone persistently tried to use a racist word and instead the word became "<bleep>" , making his sentence make little to no sense. So that's where I got the idea why this isn't something we can have in post chat, not to necessarily avoid the behavior but exclude words that no one wants to see.

I think the problem could more or less be taken care of with aggressive bans. People are only using this language because they don't fear the repercussions. I doubt the red rank players I see spewing the stuff are doing it for the first time, and yet they're sitting there at higher ranks which takes a lot of playtime, if anything. I seriously doubt this many people would be saying racial epithets in postgame chat if there were 0 tolerance permabans on first offense.

There's a line between insulting someone and trash talking

You really suck as trapper no wonder no-one fell for your traps - trash talk ok

I will [insert threat here] you [bad word] piece of [bad word] - should be censored and flagged for potential further action.

That's my issue with that, who decides what's what? Some think the second is just regular talk, some think the first is a death threat that is extremely serious. Who decides that line? I dont think we should let anyone, for a few people being rude everyone gets to talk freely.

There is a game that I used to play, Town of Salem, that had a very clever and fun filter system, which of course didn't prevent what you say, but it discouraged it.

It works like this: you can enable/disable the filter on your side, and if you have it enabled some words are replaced with silly ones - for example f**k leads to tarnation, s**t to flummery, damn to gee golly and so on and so forth (for a full list, click here - not PG).

    Nothing extraordinary, but still interesting

Because it's an 18+ game and you should take MOST internet insults as a joke.

Especially when you're a toxic killer but can't stand toxic post chat...In that case you get what you give.

another game i used to play (coh2) had a word filter in the chat. it would change some common insults to words like "nice person" or "kitty kat" or "garden" . what happened is people would call each other these insults anyway because it was common knowledge what they meant when they called you a gardener kitty kat :D chat filters don't really work imo

I don't understand your mentality. A lot of the language people use in this game is language that would not be allowed in most public settings without punishment. Of course there are exceptions.

Saying those words in school, in the workplace, ect are punishable acts I can assure you. Freedom of Speech exists only to an extent. I don't see any problem in filtering out hurtful words. Plenty of games do it. If it's punishable in most cases it should be semi-punishable here. And even then, they're not being punished really just silenced.

I don't believe in freedom of speech when it's in the form of bullying, insulting, slandering someone, ESPECIALLY if they did absolutely nothing wrong. As I mentioned before, those acts are NOT okay in a majority of the real word, so they should not be okay here in a setting where people are trying to relax and escape the stress of the real world.

Taking Xbox for example since that's the platform I play on. If you get any hateful message with inappropriate language and report it, 95% of the time Xbox comm bans them for a certain amount of time. Bullying, even in the form of words SHOULD be punished in the right situation.

That's my take on it. People should not be able to slander you just because they please. Not everyone has the same mentality. I couldn't even count the amount of suicides that have taken place over words alone. Here's some bigger advice, instead of growing "thick skin", just don't be an ######### and be nice to people. Simple. That last bit was not directed at you.

PS: I'm not excusing inappropriate language in every situation, just in those where people are using them to attack an innocent person. In some situations it's necessary or excusable but in a game like this, most of the time it's not.

I have nothing against free speech, but you still should be respectful towards each other and responsible with your words.

You are playing a game. Games should spark joy and fun.

Insulting, threatening and defamation should not be part of the game.

I never said those things weren't punishable in real life. That isn't what we're talking about. We were simply giving our own opinion of whether or not it should be and that was my opinion. Also, just because something is punishable in real life doesn't mean it should be. It just means in our specific society we deemed them that way. The chosen words in these scenarios are also completely different depending what culture you enter.

On a final note, I was not referring to bullying/harassment or any of the sort. That is a different topic of which I would agree with you.

"I have nothing against free speech, but you still should be respectful towards each other and responsible with your words."

Respect is earned by definition, not universally given. The word is misused a lot these days from its actual meaning.

"Insulting, threatening and defamation should not be part of the game."

Those 3 things are completely different scenarios.

What I am referring to with free speech would only include insulting. Threatening and defamation are a completely different thing that I would not deem acceptable. It's quite similar to what we have for our free speech laws in America currently.

Perhaps this has been asked before and I apologize if it's been answered, but:

Why is there even post-game chat at all? What is the point of it? Anyone who's playing the game with friends already have ways to chat with each other.

cause i wouldnt be able to laugh at those miserable attempts to trigger me.

honestly, let them write whatever they want to write. if they get insulting, report them and leave. just dont take their words serious and you should be fine.
