Let's Make One Thing Clear...

... SELF CARE IS NOT A GOOD PERK

Don't even try to tell me it is. At brown ranks (15-20) maybe. But if you are green, purple, or god forbid red, and I see you running self care at anything lower than 10 I immediately know you are the most boosted animal to walk the planet.

"But it allows me to have full health to go in for a save" "But it allows for a safer escape when fully healed" "But being injured makes noise"

None of those are good reasons to waste time healing with self care. If you are that concerned with being injured. Bring a medkit. Or bring inner strength.

Self care heals take 24 seconds. 50% speed on a 16 second action makes it take 24 seconds. A brown medkit does it in 16. One heal. But you can bring addons for that, or a different medkit.

If you arent playing claudette and running self care that means you either

A) have claudette leveled high enough to get self care, or

B) got it in the shrine

Do option A with Nancy (if you have the dlc) or just get it in the shrine. Inner strength is an 8 second heal at tier 3. Half of a base heal.

Self care is a bad perk because it wastes way too much of a survivors time in a match with them using it to heal over the gens. Gens take 60 seconds. Self care time is almost the same as getting half a gen done. As a killer, I love people who run self care. Because I know they are too concerned with healing themselves they will waste time over doing gens and I can keep more pressure on the map after just smacking them once and getting 24 seconds of no gen activity from that person.

Self care is NOT a good perk. In fact I would say it is the worst perk due to the number of people who use it and spread the belief that it is a god-tier survivor perk. Causing more people to run it and waste gen time by sitting in corners healing because they are scared of taking a hit and actually learning to run the killer around for more than 5 seconds before getting downed.

The one time self care is good. Is in a build with Botany Knowledge, Streetwise, Self Care, and We'll Make It, while running a ranger medkit. It gets used for item efficiency at that point and keeps that ranger medkit in your inventory longer.

Overall point of this. Stop thinking self care is good and that sitting in a corner slowly healing yourself is a good idea for you or your team. It isn't. Just do gens, and bring a medkit if you are afraid of running a killer or taking a hit.

self care botany knowledge streetwise with a new green medkit is pretty good

I really think you just have no idea when and where to use self-care. It's a pretty decent perk if you use it right.

I know some perks are very situational but I have to agree SC is bad due to just HOW situational it is.

Personally, I find it only good for end game saves if it's only you and the person on the hook. Or if someone is not around to heal you and the round is going VERY well to the point you can waste about a minute healing. However, sloppy is a great counter to this. Most rounds there's not a point to use it, why can't you just rely on your team for once in your life?

In the end, it's just a time waster. Most people I see use it either get found before it is finished or get found again soon after they complete it. Everyone who brings it is dead set on using it and taking longer with the match. You can complete a gen in the time it takes to Self Care.

Oh no no.. I know how to use the perk. I have done it. I think I run it rather well, considering I always run it with Botany and Resiliance for a near 100% heal (its 92% with those perks). I 99% myself so I always have my Resiliance buff on repairs and such then finish the heal if its the end of the round or I need to get someone from a hook.

The issue is the fact that 99% of players DO NOT know how or when to use it and [BAD WORD] the team in the process of trying to rely on it/keep themselves "safe" in a match.

It isn't directed at myself and me using it. I hate using it and honestly only ever use it when I have Claudette dailies. The point of this post is to bring light to the 99.9% of players who think the perk is god-tier no matter how they use it, and make the perk trash-tier in their hands.

Addition, just because someone mentioned it (Thank You Venoxxie)

I never even said anything about sloppy butcher and its effect on those times and the perk overall.

If the killer brought sloppy, well.... Its not a good time at all.

Agreed. Good survivors play injured. Take Iron Will and Adren, it's way more optimal.

If you want to heal yourself bring a medkit.

Stopped using it a while back- there are some moments when I wish I had it- but meh, not getting hit in the first place is more on my mind than the aftercare Xx

If I’m honest, all of Claudette’s perks are those that don’t need nerfs.

Empathy is pretty cool, but I still don’t fully understand the “Empathy does not work if the survivor is in DIRECT CONTACT with the killer” but whatever.

Botany Knowledge is obviously amazing, healing faster in any situation.

Self Care didn’t used to be so slow. I don’t mind the 50% slower self- heal, but ever since the Sloppy Butcher buff and anti- heal builds being used more and more, I really wish it was the same ol’ self care.

I like running self-care because finding survivors can be difficult at times. I try to run it with botany knowledge just so it doesn't waste too much time however with inner strength finding a totem could waste too much time and if you have randoms that hate noed alot they will cleanse every totem they see.

Tbh, I think adrenaline is overrated. If I’m playing injured all game with no fear then the endgame isn’t changing that. Plus noed exist and if we don’t do the bones then my adrenaline was useless.

No 2 perks to help you stay on gens and then get the important last heal to make it out alive. You must be one of those self care gods.

I just had a Nancy unhook me both times and completely ignore healing me the entire game. Everyone stayed injured all game and the killer won obviously. I was the last to die, kindly told the Nancy that healing will help win games, and she said "Self Care is a thing". I was like "Are you serious?" I walked up to her on a gen, she ran off the moment someone else was hooked, and I had to complete her gen injured. It was a very frustrating experience because she was also with a friend who was using self care. Like, you're friggin NANCY. YOU HAVE INNER STRENGTH.

Except you can do the totem before even becoming injured, and totems prevent NOED, and you're actually getting extra points and contributing to the game. With Self Care, you're literally just standing in place healing yourself for 32 seconds, and who needs 5 total heals? Generally you need 2 at most, maybe 3 occasionally, and you don't ALWAYS have to use Inner Strength to heal. If you're hooked, a survivor can heal you.

I legit agree with this 100%, self care has been dead since it's last nerf. I can't TELL YOU how many games i've been stuck hanging on the hook (not being camped, etc) and i'm watching someone self care behind a wall 30 feet away, only to watch me go into struggle or out right die, costing the team. It infuriates me, bond is 100% better then self care even !!

I haven’t run SC in over a year and I rarely miss it. It does feel like a waste of time overall, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on the hook watching all 3 teammates Self Caring in opposite corners of the map. It’s frustrating when people choose to heal over all other objectives. You have to run with the pace of the match, tbh. Judge whether healing is more important than finishing a gen or going for a save. Sometimes it will be. Sometimes it won’t.

That said, people can run whatever perks they want. No need to throw shade at a massive percentage of the player base simply because you don’t agree with their build.

Lmao just bring purp medkit with green addons and mb botany as fill in 4th perk and you almost instaheal.

self care and urban evasion are useless even with a build around them.

"just bring a medkit" - know what happens in my region when the killer sees more than 1 item? Mori.

There is a time and place for self-care. Saying it is never useful is simply wrong. If you use it every time you get hit or taken off hook, yeah, it will hurt your team. Knowing when to use it effectively can make it a good perk to take.

You can think 99,9% of the people don't know how or when to use it, but that doesnt make self care a bad perk, and apart from that, whether self care is or is not a good is an opinon not a fact buuut okay. I think there are way worse perks like nolb or tinh, but that's just my opinon. I do have to agree people who don't know how to use self care are annoying af, but it's not the perks fault for people being d u m b.

The only change I think would nessasery for self care is increased self healing speed with a medkit by 20%

  • jzinsky
    jzinsky Member Posts: 112

Ok so the main argument here is that SC takes 8 seconds longer than a medkit and some people use it at dumb times.

On the other side is teammates that won't heal you because they're a. not around or b. dumb

I'll take that 8 seconds just to stop hearing the moaning thanks

  • Aven_Fallen
    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 16,275

Honestly, neither Self Care nor Inner Strength are really good. Inner Strength is better than Self Care, because it ignores Stuff like Thanatophobia or Sloppy Butcher, but thats it. Breaking Dull Totems is a waste of time (when you want to be efficient, this does not stop me from breaking them tho), and it is not a free Heal for 8 seconds. It takes 22 seconds in total + the time to find a Locker, which is roughly the same as Self Care then.

Now considering you cannot find a Totem because other persons broke it... Not really worth the Perk Slot, it is better than Self Care, but nothing more. And I have seen the same dumb situations with Inner Strength as I have seen with Self Care - the classic: Person healing on the other side of the Map with Self Care, maybe even vs Sloppy Butcher. Cool. Meanwhile I had a Nancy next to me on a Gen who did not do the last Gen, but wanted to cleanse a Dull Totem. It did not get finished...

So yeah, in my opinion, both Perks are bad.

    Thasard Member Posts: 268

Self care is garbage, but i don't need everyone switching to Inner Strength and stealing all my totems. More and more people are cleansing all the totems in fear of NoEd, so inner strength has officially become a good perk only in early game. But I do hate self-care now. I've died on the hook watching people self-care instead of saving or getting gens done so someone can get out...

No, just someone who realizes the importance of using half of your perk slots for something that can be accomplished with a medkit. ?

  • T2K

I think SC depends on your perk build. Honestly even at red ranks mates are allergic to heal you. In solo I run SC, yes even at rank 1. I use resilence and heal myself 99% for keeping the bonus speed. Also SC works crazy good with a medkit and botany. In Swf i never use it. Its a pretty good perk that does what it should. Medkits are the faster way to heal but you lose your item slot for eg a flashlight. For inner strength you need totems. The time waste searching for one on big maps is often higher than selfcaring. And if your mates cleanse your 5 totems...

Saying SC is bad, I think you are very wrong. SC is a good perk and you can do pretty cool builds with it. thats it. no one forces you to run SC. But dont run around and say its bs because you like to play with other perks.

I'll say the same thing I said before....

You can either leave your teammates to keep working on gens for 32 seconds, or you can make sure both of you are not doing a gen for 16 seconds. Either way, the manpower loss on gens is the same.

So to me, it's an even trade and a matter of preference.

(wait, you said 24 seconds for self care? So basically your saying it's better to heal yourself because if a teammate heals you it's 32 seconds of manpower loss on a gen?)

  • twistedmonkey
    twistedmonkey Member Posts: 4,293

It's situational but still a very strong perk.

Some don't do as well in chases so need the extra health state. It's always better to have more alive than dead. It's also something easy to get starting off with Claudette while others need paid content or shrine luck.

It has its place but I'd personally use a medkit over it since the change as it allows the use of other perks. Medkits will allow enough heals with add-ons at a much faster rate. Pair them with botany and you can heal while in a chase between pallets.

Inner strength is a better perk for those who know the game but some maps with the totem spawns make it hard to use for those unfamiliar with the go to spawn points so the average player can spend more time running around looking for a totem than self care wastes healing.

If a player is close I'd say always use them to heal you up if they offer. The time to heal compared to gens is the same but a quicker heal on you allows you to take another hit before doing down if the killer comes close.

So if one wishes to stay healed then for a perk self care can take less time overall than taking time to find totems or another player which actually gains more gen time on average.

Surely you would only go searching for a totem if a hex was active? Even then you'd prioritise gens. I doubt anyone would go searching for a totem purely to activate their inner strength. So if you activate inner strength by cleansing a hex, such as ruin, it's a win for you and the team. I come across dull totems many times when I'm going around doing other objectives. I would cleanse one when passing it - unless there was a greater priority at that moment.

In a typical game, I'll cleanse about 2 totems, so when using inner strength, I'll bear that in mind. I would never expect to get 4 or 5 uses out of it, although that is possible.

I've made people think. Which is good.

I do realize my times were off. Gens are 80 and the healing nerf does make it 32 seconds.

The point still exists outside the complaints and reinforcement of Inner Strength or Self Care. It is a point many people have made.

If you are running it, run it intelligently. My issue with the perk is that it makes people who aren't the best at the game feel like they are because they can sit in a corner healing themselves over doing the objective after taking hits.

I play killer, I like to think I'm good at doing so. If I notice someone who runs self care will run to a corner and heal after I hit them once, I will just leave them to find someone else while they waste time.

I'm sure even those of you who run self care well and run it in different ways agree that the issue with self care is the fact people waste time with it after taking one hit, never being hooked in the match. Letting you get to second state off of first hook because you can see them self caring in a corner on the opposite side of the map, or doing all 5 gens as everyone else is sitting around self caring in opposite corners.

As many have stated, it isn't necessarily the perk itself, but rather its application and being used poorly.

Just another re-up. I run Dead Hard, Adrenaline, Spine Chill and DS as my main loadout. I've ran killers for 5 gens. Got my adrenaline pop and got out the door.

Adrenaline is stronger than self care by far, unlike someone pointed out. Killer closes hatch, adrenaline (though at that point self-care isn't gonna save you either (unless it was a key play)) Gens done and you are mid-chase, adrenaline (and also a speed boost to get the duck away). Killer coming and gen 99, pop that thing and adrenaline speed boost yourself to the nearest loop while your teammates open the door.

Self care just, gets a health state when you have time to do it.
