Why I think the free exclusives is the worst decision, ever.
I'm honestly shocked that BHVR would do something so drastic with such disregard for the old and dedicated playerbase.
The reasons stated for giving the exclusives out free were because of scammers, right?
Well, first of all, why does that mean the New Year event and Summer BBQ event exclusives needed to be given out, you can't even buy codes.
Onto the main exclusives, exclusives are more than just cosmetics for many people. They hold sentimental value, and a reminder of the old days when the community was much smaller and DBD felt like more of an indie game. Why would you just take all of that value away from them, and expect the exclusive holders to just accept it and act like they're fine with it?
I know simply withdrawing the codes isn't an option, as Peanits has said. That would have been an ideal work around, assuming you can't still just withdraw unused ones.
But, What I'm asking for at least, is that you give back to the original holders. You could give them a version of the exclusives which is covered in blood, similar to prestige cosmetics but applied on top of the exclusives. It's not a crazy change, like legacy, but would be a nice way of discerning who had the exclusives when they were actually worth something. Make the codes no longer redeemable if possible, but make it so anyone who has already redeemed them receives a bloodied variant of said cosmetic. If not this, can you AT LEAST put a note on the cosmetic, thanking those who were original exclusive holders. Because this just feels like they didn't put any thought into the effect on the players.
IMO, this is the best way to still implement the free exclusives, without it feeling like a huge "######### YOU" to their older players who went to the events or earned them.
..and although it was out of their hands that people began to sell the codes and pay lots of money for them, that doesn't mean they should just ignore them and say "it's their fault" when all of the exclusives were never announced to return at any point.
I'd also like to point out that apparently exclusives are unfair to "completionist" players who can't get them.. and yet BHVR has an exclusive Nea cosmetic, interesting.
Just, please don't give everyone the exclusives alone, please. I, and many others would feel really disregarded. It honestly makes me lose a little faith in BHVR, who I often defend to my last breath even when they make questionable decisions.
I'd like to hear other opinions, but only if it's in the form of constructive arguments and discussion. Any form of condescending demeanour or mockery towards people who are unhappy their exclusives are being made worthless will be removed.

well i agree with what you are saying bhvr said they want no exclusives anymore so nothing ppl can rlly do
3 -
maybe they should consider giving everyone their exclusive nea cosmetic as well, then.

Honestly yeah. It's a horrible decision. Really insulting to people who endured their awful events. The thing is most people don't have exclusives, or they're jealous of people who had exclusives so this makes them happy, while BHVR completely disregards people who are for the most part the devs largest and longest supporters. The funny things exclusives will still exist, like Diatech Nea, Bloodletting, selling legacy accounts, Ohmwrecker Wraith ect. If they truly gave everyone EVERYTHING I would not be as upset, but now the few exclusives I have mean nothing and the events I grinded through were worthless.

I agree with this. I understand their reasoning behind doing such a thing, but without giving any recognition to those who had it previously is unacceptable. People won/gave these codes from official tournaments and giveaways and now by making them free, what meaning do they even have? Not to mention the exclusivity promised by these skins by attending events and such. Buying codes is not BHVR’s fault, but attending these events and getting an “exclusive event skin” needs some credit. At least a charm, or a note, or a prestige effect on these skins would be somewhat compensations to this. You can’t just give them all out without doing something in return.
About the event skins, they should not be in the list at all; there’s no reason for them to be.

Right? very silly. They couldn't even say like "they'll be available for 20k shards" or some bs so the baby meg doesn't get an exclusive for her first ever game of DBD.
3 -
I'm glad you agree! I really don't understand why the Summer BBQ and New Year cosmetics are in there.. at all. For the most part, there is a reason behind it but those ones? hmm
1 -
I agree, for all those who earned the event cosmetics this is just a waste of our time-really stupid!
8 -
So Legacy is only exclusive in the game? Luckily I have one.

I heard that the real reason that these are going free is because of how many people recently lost theirs. Instead of trying to go back and restore those individual accounts they pushed the easy button and decided to give them free to everyone :( It sucks but it is probably the right business move.
3 -
I think Legacy, Bloodletting and all Artifact exclusives are the only ones left.

Oh my gosh, I really hope that's not the case. My friend's went missing and their response was "your cosmetics will be returned in the future" sooo....

But this is more about the effect it has on individual exclusive holders. They could AT LEAST give something back to those people, free auric cells? shards? ANYTHING? but at the moment, doesn't seem like they are.

Imagine being this pressed over cosmetics. Yikes.

Those and the twitch/king kong/pandaTV ones

You got to use the exclusives for years before everybody else. Time to suck it up gamer, times are a changin'.
22 -
No big deal to me, I haven't used my hound mask since i got the hallowed blight huntress last year. IDK why cosmetics are such a big deal to people and am even more surprised that soooo many people will drop $10 on them.

mhm

yea dbd is getting worse and worse.
4 -
But they still released an exclusive fog whisperer charm, the exclusive crew shirt and the twitch shirts will stay exclusive.
2 -
If you genuinely think dbd is currently worse off than what it used to be back in the day, you're crazy.
11 -
hypocrisy
5 -
Look at the events, bland, boring, don't feel like an event. How awesome.

I'm mixed on it. I got a Golden Feng Min outfit a few years ago from a twitch streamer give away. So when they mentioned cross accounts I was freaked out. It was either my PC account which has Golden Feng p3 all perks with all Killers all p3 lvl 50 with dozens of event cosmetics and items or my PS4 account where I bought all my cosmetics and have Feng Min p3 all perks and working on my killers again.
All this did was make it so I would choose my ps4 account over my pc version. Because cosmetics cost money.

That's quite the straw man argument you got there.

Please keep it civil. Some comments are already edging very close to being over the line.
I understand your frustration, but try to be constructive about it.
12 -
ignoring the fact you had to pay to get into PAX.

Okay, thank you.

Glad to see BHVR make the right decision. :)

Wooo! Free cosmetics!
5 -
More like a two classed community
0 -
Maybe give some shards to compensate those who earned the cosmetics before? (Like 20k shards, enough for a new whole outfit)
Then everyone is winning
3 -
You got them before others , it's good enough and nobody is taking that memory out of you, no need to act like a child about it.
4 -
There are few thing better than getting free things and making tryhards cry at the same time.
4 -
thats...not what a straw man argument is. He said he doesn't like the events and feels DBD is getting worse. You can disagree with him, but that doesn't make it a straw man lol. Maybe google terms before you use them?
1 -
Preach.
1 -
LMAO!!! And I am even one that has the hound mask!
1 -
see, now that would be nice. it's giving back to the original exclusive holders. but it doesn't seem like they care enough to do that tbh.
1 -
you literally just made this comment to bait and cause heated arguments. it costs $0 to be understanding to another side's POV, but sure.
3 -
It is a straw man. Saying DBD has gotten worse only because events aren't as interesting at the current moment while ignoring all of the changes that have made the game much better over the years (pallet vacuuming, balance, hooks respawning, etc) is dumb. The game is better than it used to be, he's just not happy with events. Doesn't mean DBD is going downhill, that's just a straw man as many positive things have been done with much more value.
2 -
I literally don't know why they said it was a straw man argument.. at all lmao
0 -
"current moment", although they literally just announced that future events will be the same as the halloween event. not an actual event, they just change the music and some assets and then give out stuff via the rift.
That's not an event.
Balance wise, the game has gotten better. But the overall mechanics and what-not? It's just getting worse. That's not to say they won't do a 180 and add a bunch of new and great stuff, that's just how I feel atm. You're welcome to disagree.
2 -
Nope I have all event cosmetics but I also know its not that serious that others are getting them now

I don’t see the issue. I have some of the exclusives but I’m not bothered about this. I’m not a fan of limited or exclusive offers. I don’t think it’s fair that newer fans aren’t able to obtain certain cosmetics just because they weren’t there to participate in events. And at the end of the day, it’s not that deep. It’s just clothing for a character in a game. Games are supposed to be fun and provide some escapism. Why has everything always gotta be so negative?
1 -
That literally is not a straw man. A straw man is when you misrepresent an opponent's argument in a debate. A straw man would be you saying "I prefer old cosmetics" and someone saying "Oh so you think new cosmetics suck". What you describe is him disagreeing with you, which you feel is unjustified based on certain evidence. Not a straw man.
2 -
so you call people that have the cosmetics tryhards as an insult , whilst apparently having them? funny
3 -
If they could just push a button and make that happen they probably would have just given back the "exclusive" cosmetics to those that lost them. There is a lot involved with going into individual accounts and changing things.
1 -
I just don't understand how them deciding to focus on game health has somehow made DBD go downhill to you. You seem to want a new and detailed event which would take away from improving the game health, which would then make DBD go downhill.
1 -
I think it's just being amplified because of recent changes that make the game feel like it's getting worse. This is just another kick to older players , it feels. If they give the original exclusive holders something back as a thank you, that would be nice. But they won't, and I think that's why it feels so bad.
3 -
by "giving back" i didn't mean giving them their exclusives back, i meant giving them something as a thank you for being an original exclusive holder, rather than just giving them to everyone and saying ok bye.
