Big Oof. Seems like Surge is even worse than we all thought it is.
Taken from the reddit AMA.
Not gonna lie, Im really bummed out about this. The perk "was" already not good, now it's just plain bad ...

I thought this was already known. It regresses the gen by 8% instantly and then applies normal regression afterwards.

Wow that’s really terrible, like beyond bad.
1 -
Why did people think it was 18% regression? Isn't it written 8% on perk description?
3 -
I think people thought the gen exploding meant it would apply normal failed Skill Check regression, and the "additional" 8% was in addition to that.
1 -
Well what is ''additional'' 8% supposed to mean? It looks worded poorly if it means additional gens get 8%. Shouldn't it say that instead?
1 -
8% in addition to the regression you get from kicking a gen.
1 -
hm.... makes sense, but I think the explosion only happens to alert both survivors and killer about the surge effect being applied. it isn't a failed skill check, after all...

You don't get regression when you kick a Gen, when you kick a Gen you make the Gen regress by .25 charges per second but it does not actually cause any regression when you kick it. If it is meant to be what you're saying then it should not say additional since there is no pre regression on the Gen.

What they should do to eliminate any confusion is use the templating of Pop Goes the Weasel.

Indeed, or just buff the perk since everyone acknowledges it is garbage. Making it actually 18% would be decent since 25 is good and 18 is just a little below that so it would be a decent perk if you didn't have Pop.

I'd be down for that.

It's VERY poorly worded. But they do have a habit of not naming/explaining/saying things correctly. They do it all the time. Plain wrong Archive challenges descriptions. Missleading perk descriptions. Poor wording during chapter releases and trailers (I know it's old, but the wording during the Pig trailer is still golden.)

"Surge" is a time saver in combination with "Surveillance". It's far from good, but okay i guess.

Surge is still better than mindbreaker

Probably because it has the same wording as Overcharge, so people thought it worked in the same way.

As long as it means I don't have to go kick gens, it saves me precious time. Idk why you all think it's bad.

I think it seriously needs a buff, it already has a cooldown and I don't know why the regression is so low, so BHVR either has to remove the cooldown or buff the regression more

They need to increase the range on it tbh I'd be fine with it being map wide since it only regresses a gen by 8% and has a cooldown that or increase the regression %

Before Nurse got her nerf, I would say Surge is a pretty good perk to run on her.
Because Nurse could easily slug survivors, she benefited from Surge quite a bit. With that perk, you saved time by not having to kick generators and were able to keep up the pressure on survivors.
Fun times.. *sniff*

Because it only work on basic attacks AND has limited range AND as a fairly long cooldown AND now we know that the "additional" regression is not that great either.
Make it 10% total. Thats 8 seconds off a generator, a nice and easy number to understand. And then either remove the cooldown or increase the range. Then you'd have an allright perk.

The cooldown is shorter than the time it takes to down a survivor unless you get REALLY lucky.

It's especially good woth surveillance
