Well the game is M for mature, so I felt a little odd to put options below 18 to begin with. I originally had this as sort of 'life stages', because I know for myself (37) my game play style, competition spirit, toxic etc really changed as I went through certain life stages. So I had the ages originally 'middle school-ish', 'high-school ish' college-ish' etc. But then just went with this :P

They're some stupid arbitrary rule mandated by the gov't. Hopefully they're killed off. Waste of space on the box art and GameStop really annoys me sometimes.

Well, yeah. Of course children are going to play it. It SHOULD be up to the parents to monitor what their kids are playing.
As for raw age, though, if you're say 15 and mature enough to be around adults, then sure. It's more the complete children that would stereotypically populate the Reddit sub-forum "I'm 13 and this is deep". Or play Fortnite and do the emotes in public unironically.

For parents who aren't into videogames they are actually very helpful. There are too many games for a parent to go out and research everyone that their kid would want to play and the reasons why they get that rating are listed. That way parents can get a quick overview of the questionable content.

It's not that good a game and it's super annoying to see kids constantly raving about it and doing the emotes in my classes when I have specifically said that they're not acceptable or banned.
Apex Legends is objectively a better battle royale. The art style isn't all that and was done better in Borderlands. Gunplay is terrible, as you're rolling dice to hit rather than actual skill. Most of the emotes/dances are stolen without any credit to the creators. And the main reason that people ever really got into it is because it was free and trendy.
Anyway, my point was more the emotes in public part.

But then the stores wouldn't have a legal reason to NOT sell the game to just anyone. The age is on there for that reason, and it makes sense. Including the content for parents to view doesn't do jack if the kid can just walk down the street and buy it anyway.

That should be the responsibility of the parent and not the sellers.

There are plenty of examples where the seller is responsible for restricting who can buy what based on age.
It still is the responsibility of the parent, because now the parent has to go with to make the purchase. This falls in line with your thinking, because apparently you believe that the parents are with their kids 24x7 to PREVENT them from buying the game, so by that reasoning they must also have availability to ACTUALLY buy them the game.

I am one of the two oldest here. I take pride from the fact that at 57 I can still play games. Based on my limited knowledge I would say I am probably around Ash's age, which is why I chose him as my avatar.
