I approve of half of the new chapter.
In my honest opinion... I love the survivor more than the Killer. Yes I know what you are thinking...
"His power is amazing! How do you hate the killer and not the survivor!"
Well... I dont hate him because of his power or his perks.
He is just... visually unpleasant to look at. He has too much on his model for me to comprehend. Too much bland colors. When I think of Samauri I think of this:

Look at the difference of color. One is extremely pleasant to look at, and the other one.... not so much..
Now the survivor on the other hand, she has a perfect color pallet. She just looks dang amazing.
Like I could live with the long hair if they just fixed his armor's color. Like ik it's supposed to look like as if he died but... you could do the exact same to the concept art of an actual samurai...
But other than that, both look good for an original chapter. ( not one I expected but... one I like nonetheless).

I really like Yui character design, because how coloful it is. I like the Oni too, but it can use more color. He might get samurai cosmetics in the future. If you look up 'Oni Samurai' there's great concepts for them.

I'm not familiar with Japanese culture, but the reason Oni don't look like samurai is because... It is not a samurai?
You see, samurai is human being and Oni is actually a mystical creature. Google Oni and you will see the design of DBD Oni is very close to the depiction of Oni in Japanese culture.

Oni can mean either of these. But the 2nd one in fact doesn't have a Katana. The Oni Samurai does. Plus I don't think it specifies which one he is...

But Oni carries both a katana and a kanabo, the club onis are known for wielding. It's clear that while not in Blood Fury, Oni resembles a samurai more, wielding his katana and not being able to perform any supernatural abilities, but in Blood Fury, AKA his demon form, he wields his kanabo and becomes a lot stronger, with demon like strength, making him appear more similarly to an actual oni.

I don't think he was a samurai though, he killed people who pretended to be samurais. His entire character design is based more on the fact that he was referred to as an oni by the people who had heard about the things he had done, this enraged him and caused him to kill even more people.

Well you're wrong. He's as his name suggests, an Oni. He looks exactly like a traditional Oni. Dead looking skin, worn clothes drained of color, and the iconic demonic face. Don't believe me? Here's a picture. Whether you like his design or not is your opinion but you are factually wrong on HOW he should look and here's a picture.
The club, dead skin, the clothes and his face all fit what he's supposed to be; a Oni and not a samurai.

Oni Samurais exist lol) All I am saying is if they made his color pallet kinda like the one I referenced then it would be more pleasing visually to look at. I didn't say the model ain't great. I just said the color needs to be tweaked.. and the hair definitely needs tweaking (especially with the menu's bad lighting) like dark blue and a dark red oni mask would be definitely better. And then have a slightly darker light blue for his skin.(kinda like Spirit's skin.)
That's all this post was about.
Not trying to criticize the devs for doing a Terrible job. Because so far I like this chapter. Just not his color pallet.

The Oni has a SAMURAI SWORD whereas a traditional Oni has a SPIKED CLUB. This and the fact that he shares similarities he shares with the very same samurai picture first displayed makes The Oni easy to confuse with a samurai.

Oni-Kanabō is a Japanese term for the strong one made stronger or less commonly known as the one that cannot be beat

It seems Mikey is partially correct, in a way. The Oni, Kazan Yamaoka, was a samurai during his life, and slaughtered anybody who called him anything but that. However, saying that Oni and Akai Oni Samurai can be the same is really stretching the truth, since Kazan or any Oni for that matter have nothing to do with the Akai Oni Samurai. The Akai Oni Samurai are completely different from the Oni, and would probably be very insulted if you compared them to such.
However, it's quite obvious that Behavior did intend for the Oni to have some resemblance to a samurai. He has the Kanabo, or spiked bat as you like to call it, and the sword. It's clear as day that he's meant to be both.

Even the wikipage you put up support my point. Oni samurai was a group of elite trope back in the day and were human. DBD Oni is the folklore Oni, is a mystical creature similar to ogre.
I'm not sure about his lore, but I would believed that this yamaoka ancestor was a samurai who just happened to become an Oni later down the line. The samurai sword is a throwback to his samurai day, and symbolises that he was started as a human with sword that become an Oni with club after soaking in enough blood.

According to his lore, the Oni, Kazan Yamaoka, sought to uphold the samurai spirit, and felt that the best way to do that was kill "imposter" samurai, who were basically just farmers. He killed hundreds of farmers, taking "trophies" from each kill. People caught wind of this and started calling him "Oni-Yamaoka", basically calling him an ogre/monster, which Kazan hated, as it was seen as disgraceful to him and his families name. Seeking retribution, a voice in his head, most likely the Entity, told him to go to a nearby town and kill its lord, the person who originally desecrated his name. On his way there, he was stopped by a samurai, and after a tough battle, Kazan eventually wins, smashing the samurai's skull with his kanabo club. Removing the samurai's mask revealed his father, killed by Kazan's own hands.
This basically broke Kazan.
He left, roaming the land, hearing his father's voice in his head taunting him. Eventually he happened on an Oni statue in a forest, which reminded him of the lord. He went back to the lord's town, slaughtering everyone he saw. He found the lord in his palace, and after torturing him for hours, watching him squirm and beg like a dog, killed him by ripping out his tongue, so that he would never desecrate his name again. Leaving the town, he was ambushed by a bunch of farmers, who eventually overpowered him. Bringing him to an old windmill, they tortured Kazan as he had tortured their lord, eventually leaving him for the night. When they came back, the windmill was covered in a black fog, with Kazan nowhere to be found, spawning rumors of an Oni haunting the town.
