I have 2.1k hrs and play both sides, rank 4 survivor and rank 7 killer. I have no problems with killer challenges so far (except the grind). The Trapper specific ones need more time for me because I rarely play him. But that's all right.

For survivor most challenges are really really grindy, because you compete with others. Some just don't fit my playstyle, like "rescue with the flashlight" but I don't complain. I just do them last.

For my part, the killer ones could be just a lil bit more difficult, but the survivor ones could be a bit less grindy and less rng based. They did the last part so I'm fine with that.

No need to say, that "they are just difficult for rank 20s". Some are difficult even for a rank 1 because you do not play that killer often or just do not like to play the way the challenge wants you to. If you can do them easily, be happy. You need less time to get to tier 70. At least I would not complain. And if you are bored, you could do them with an extra challenge, like without perks or deaf or whatever.

Only challenge that seemed like a problem is unhook two survivors during the EGC, other ones were pretty easy only thing being mildly hard about them is that you needed multiple games for them.

And Iridescent emblems one being bugged didn't help.

Here’s the great thing, if you want to try to unhook 2 survivors during EGC you still can’t!!! Heck if you wanna try to unhook 5 times during EGC you can, if you’re so up for challanges he’s create some of your own.

The word "challenge" in 2019 means "I don't want to try" and "They just wanna take my money" not sure how they correlate with eachother, but people still find a way to lump em in together. We live in an era of people who, if it's to hard, they just voice their anger to force change. Hard to imagine how anyone would be able to survive the older games of the past that had stupid dumb challenges.

Agreed. They never should've changed it.

Anyone else notice the proposed change to the unhook challenge for tome 3 is less unhooks needed than tome 2? Tome 2 needed 15 unhooks while theyre saying theyre gonna change tome 3s to 10.

Just because they're making the challenges more feasible doesn't mean you can't set yourself aims to complete the more difficult ones! I spent literally hours on the 25 unhook challenge when considering console queue time so I'm happy for other more casual players to not have to suffer.

Well you got your wish. They delayed the challenge changes just like they delay everything else.

And it isn't that the challenges are hard, its that they're extremely grindy. And a few of them are 100% luck-based, like the last minute hero challenge.

Why does this community complain so much? They're fixing an issue that the majority of players wanted fixed. They aren't gonna listen to one person's view. Accept it and move on.

    Hey Devs!

if you are reading this. THANK YOU for the changes. I like how you are keeping the challenging aspect while reducing the amount it takes to complete a challenge. Also we understand that this is the first iteration of a Level tome, so you are learning on how to effectively make it fair as possible by starting off with feedback.

    Cheers!

    They haven't changed them though

It needed changes because of the fact most master level challenges are luck based instead of skill based. getting 2 safe unhooks during EGC in one game is not skill based, it's pure luck. This is only 1 out of many that aren't skill based.

I agree. That was the only one really needed changing. I think each one should have two levels. One that lets you progress through the Tome and a harder one that grants extra BP. I think that would be a good compromise.

Think it's too early for this thread. Yes the changes are coming but they haven't happened yet.

Just stop. Jesus. The challenges were awful, and if you think they were good you have no idea how to create a healthy mission system for a video game.

It is possible to challenge players on their tenacity, to stick with something longer than they're accustomed to; these players want changes because they don't see how they could possibly work through that challenge. Rather than having people encourage themselves to overcome whatever odds are required by the challenge, they instead complain to the devs.

Some people complain that things are too reliant on luck, but i'd guess that challenges are formulated from existing data that tells the devs how often a given circumstance arises and how likely any player is to encounter that circumstance. If it occurs often enough, it could be the basis for a challenge so long as it's difficulty is in line with the difficulty of other challenges. Meaning that the devs calculate this stuff using information they have. Saying it's luck based only serves to take accountability of oneself and throw it onto someone else, claiming it's an insurmountable problem that should be fixed because it's 'unfair.'

Some challenges do require specific circumstances, and maybe people aren't aware how often they actually occur. So, assuming that the circumstance is rare, some people think that they have to force those circumstances to occur but they're met with resistance; in the same way someone who would try to advance time more quickly by counting the hours on a clock throughout the day - it'd drive anyone mad. But, what if trying to force those circumstances is exactly what's preventing them from happening? That might be hard to accept! It's no longer a circumstance outside of their control, now they have to tolerate the pain of considering that their own actions could be at fault. That's tough. But, what do they do? Try something else, a different approach, right? Instead they say "nope not possible! Gonna tell the devs it's luck based or something. What even is luck? who cares, it's not fun and it should be fun." So, the devs look at the data and say "well crap, the behavior of everyone that's trying to complete this challenge is different from the behavior we saw in the data we originally used to balance the challenge." so ...? they change it - which would be the reasonable thing to do to avoid alienating the [casual] community.

I'm mostly talking out of my ass because I can't substantiate that this is the way devs do things, but the complaints from the community match the way things have been changed in other games, and the devs response match as well. In other games that go down this path it starts with changing the game repeatedly for a portion of the community, typically making things easier and easier. First, out goes the difficulty, and over time, out with the difficulty goes the value of achievement; and with the value of achievement goes the substance; and with the substance goes the hardcore fanbase, which is the foundation of the community. You lose the hardcore base... If anyone read this far... I'm not saying that by making the tome easier is going to result in the collapse of the community. It's more of a big picture idea, and the changes that seemingly lead to similar conclusions.

I get what you’re saying about the changes, but they started that way before the Rift.

Both sides whine about perks, addons, etc and they get changed... only sometimes is this change warranted and even then it doesn’t always work correctly.

I agree. Too easy and quickly done. I only had a problem with the 2 Unhooks in EGC, the rest was not too hard and doable in 3 weeks.

Sooooo, have these changes gone into effect yet? My tome still shows the old version. Still have the iridescent bug too. How do I make it update on PS4?

No, It was delayed to next week. In this time I bet most have finished it xD I'm almost done, too. It is really not hard at all. I'm happy, that I can challenge myself with the actual challenges until the easy ones release.

Even one unhook at EGC is hard. Survivors won't open gates until people are right on the hate in case of blood warden.

Welcome to the land of DBD where if it isn't easy NEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRFFFFFFFFF unless it's survivors, don't nerf, ever, buff them, infact, let them use Mori

This is for lore. not for some overpowered item/perk/character/addon.

They shouldn't BE hard. They should be grindy.

I tried all night last night and most of the morning to get 5 flashlight blinds. Everyone and their brother's sister's mother's uncle is running lightborn. I literally cannot even when wasting an entire purple flashlight with a green and yellow battery right in the sweet spot lol.

If you want a hard game, play with only no mither as survivor or no perks as killer. there. stop trying to force BS on other players because you're bored.

A hardcore 20 - 1 run? Like, if you die along the way, you have to either wait until your rank decays back to 20 to try again, or buy a new DbD account to take another attempt? lol

No. They are using family share on steam and making a brand new account. So there's no perks, teachables... nothing. So they aren't technically buying a new copy of DBD.

Must play only 1 survivor at a time. If the survivor doesn't escape (sacrifice or mori'd), they can no longer use it and it's considered "dead". You can only use bloodpoints on the survivor you are currently playing so if it dies before you get the teachable then its GG for that teachable. Hexy started this and made up the rules, and Marth also did a killer version (must get a 4k). People who do it seem to really enjoy the challenge. After the Oni hype dies down some streamers will probably go back to it.
