Dedicated Servers and the fate of DBD

Dear Dead by Daylight community and to whomever it may concern at Behaviour,

There is a serious problem with the state of Dead by Daylight right now, this fact is not arguable, there is no excuse. To put it simply dedicated servers are terrible. I've been playing this game since its release as i'm sure most of you in this community have been, we've been through a lot of bumpy rides me and you, there's been quite a few unforgettable bugs, however, those moments have passed and those bugs have been patched. The game continues to move forward while also continuing to strive for a more balanced and enjoyable feeling, this is something that has become very apparent as buffs and nerfs that have been needed for a long time are now being made.

Recently I've been very happy with the changes being made to the game, the die-hard community was finally seeing some progress for their efforts, with the buff of some very underwhelming killers to the nerf of some very overwhelming survivor aspects. However, all of this is being overshadowed by one very large thorn in behaviours side. Dedicated servers.

How Dedicated servers even got implemented into the live servers after the PTB experience is beyond me. I try to remain as optimistic and positive as humanly possible when it comes to the future of the game, however I can't lie to myself, this game is being RUINED by one thing.

Dead by daylight in its current state is not enjoyable, I feel like i'm volunteering to be handicapped when I play survivor, dead hard doesn't work, vaulting windows and throwing down pallets with the killer even remotely close to m1 range is suicide because of the latency, survivor literally feels unplayable, the day I go down to a trapper that hits me through the shack window i vaulted almost 2 seconds ago is the day I give up on the game, unfortunately, that day was today. Killer's experience the same pain survivors do, some killers are literally being forced off their mains because of the state of this game. Huntress hatchets have always been inconsistent but now they have reached chaotic evil levels of inconsistency, hatchets go through survivors and don't register as a hit, hatchet's hit people around the wall, Billy ghost saws at nothing, billy saws people around tires and corners. Your down is determined on luck and how much the dedicated server is favoring you, it is no longer based on your individual skill, just about who has the least amount of latency.

I actively partake in both sides of the community, and personally believe I don't carry any bias towards killer or survivor since I enjoy both, I hope this message isn't construed as me being a whiny dead by daylight player, but as an enthusiast that wants to continue to see this game thrive and overcome adversity. I hope to not be met by a dev and community manager that tells me this game is fine and that there is nothing wrong with it, but an open minded dev that play tests and experiments with the things I touched on to make an actual solution.

If these things are ignored, many other people like myself will be leaving DBD for good and this game will lose its authentic player base, also, blood lodge window makes your hitbox like pitbull because that thing is worldwide, it's hard for a killer to not hit you vaulting through it. I appreciate you guys for listening to my Ted Talk. Please hotfix.

I apologise for the wall of text. I don't use forums often, it was a lot that needed to be said with very little time investment. Considering I don't care how my information is presented, I just care that it is at least presented. I would prefer feedback based off the content of my post rather than how my content was presented, thank you.

wall if text aside, the content of this whilst valid, does come across very "whiney" for lack of a better term. Of course the developers aren't going to leave the game in this state, they said themselves dedicated servers are still being both tested and worked on.

Now, you can ask why test them live like this, for everyone, and that has a few simple reasons. 1: stress testing the servers, they can't get any data with a PTB thats relevant since that'll be only 0.1% of the actual playerbase, so they gotta test it live. 2: they need dedicated servers to allow Nintendo Switch to join in, since imagine if they where peer to peer like old DBD, they couldn't handle it

Yes, it sucks, and whilst i cant vouch for survivor side that much, i can say its nice for killers when there a good stable connection, where attacks miss or hit correctly. And once the servers are all good and proper, then it'll (in my opinion) help save DBD

Also a tldr for other people in the thread OP is angry at the connection issues and lag issues that the dedicated servers bring.

I’m not ready to give up yet, but I completely understand how you could be frustrated enough to do so. The killer hit boxes feel terrible as survivor, especially around vaults and pallets. Dead Hard has been made completely unplayable. Billy’s saw is worse than ever. I’ve seen multiple comments from killer players about being frustrated with Nurse and Myers. The game is definitely not in a good place right now.

Imagine having such a short attention span that you're actually complaining to this guy for writing a wall of text. Yikes.

Right? Even so, do they really need to stop and say the didn't read it too? Short attention span and lots of extra time.

The poor man bloody apologised too. I'd be ashamed to actually complain about it when he's writing perfectly fine.

Understandable concerns, but giving it up makes you look like you think this'll be it forever.

Not saying you're correct or incorrect, just that it's understandable.

Can't relate personally though, had only 2-3 big hiccups ever since they were live.

aside from all the clear english scholars here... my god cringe.

OP youre not wrong at all. a ton of big content creators have come out to say that making content right now is difficult because of the servers. killer is plagued with horrid bugs and survivor feels miserable alot of times. patience is all we have left. idk man

It's always kind of weird for me to read complaints about the dedicated servers when 95% of the time I personally don't experience any problems with them.

Apart from a very few matches where Dead Hard, Huntress' hatchets or hitboxes have been weird, the dedicated servers have been a godsend for me. I always had lag spikes and whatnot with the p2p system, not to mention the occasional lag switching killers.

For once, we agree. I'm not quite as... defeatist about it, but yeah it's rough.
