Lack of Purple/Red Rank Killers

So I obviously can't speak for the world or even all platforms, but it feels like my region/platform combination (east US/Canada PC) has very few purple or red rank killers. For reference, I'm currently a purple survivor and a green killer. My survivor queues, even as a solo surv, take a few min (not terribly long, not complaining about queue times right now) and my killer queues are pretty instant. But what I've noticed is that my survivor games are typically against a green rank killer and my killer games are against purple/red survivors.

I've been to rank 1 on both sides, I got those achieves a good few years ago and no longer care about my rank - except that I don't like ranking up to the point I'm not having fun. I've been enjoying the weaker end of the killer line up more recently, so needing to go more or less full tryhard to do well when I'm encountering people two colors ahead of me isn't really my idea of fun right now, and it's a little frustrating not being put up against people near the rank I've been loosely trying to maintain, where I can have fun without running in a circle for half the match. I believe it's specifically a killer deficit because of the direction the queues take - if my killer queues took a long time I'd believe it was a lack of survivors near my rank.

I know people complain about queues and matchmaking doing a poor job across the board, but I'm curious if people have seen this trend in other regions, or if you're in my region and you're experiencing something different in this region I'd be curious as well. It's been like this since I came back in October for me, so either I've been put in a special matchmaking setup for some reason, I'm just unlucky, or this is indeed the trend.

I'm in the same zone and ps4 doesnt have issues getting lobbies.

    For me anyways.

Just curious, why is it so hard for Killers to rank up but so easy for Survivors?

Matchmaking in general is busted now. Thanks, dedicated servers! :)

I don't know what the formula is, but my wife makes fun of me when I play survivor. I can't loop anyone and I am lucky to ever escape a chase, but I can reach the red ranks as a survivor. As a killer I feel much more competant, but I usually won't get out of the green ranks before reset. I have had matches where I feel like I dominated with a 3k, but only get a black pip.

Cause nobody wants to be a red/purple rank killer and deal with a bunch of trolls. I’ve gotten to rank 1 before as killer but I never plan on doing it again. Without rank rewards, there’s no real purpose in ranking anyway.

It happens when you use 1 shots too often, or in the case of Plague when ppl dont cleanse. Instead of scoring 2 loads of chaser points per chase, you only get 1...

Should have better consideration to chase, it's silly to be fair

So did the devs ever talk about this? Or do they expect billys & plagues not to use their specials?

Just had a game where I (purple), two other purples, and a green went against a rank 16. Like, I get matchmaking eventually expands to look for other killers, but was that really the best the game could do? Surely there had to be someone other than the poor Myers we destroyed because he quite simply didn't know the game well enough...

Edit: It's 8 PM EST, there should be more people on now than in a few hours, and that's the best matchmaking could do?

I played nothing but Killer up until the other day (grinding from low Green Rank to High Purple), until I decided to try Survivor for a while. I must admit that there is a lot less pressure when playing the Survivor side, due to duties being split up between four people compared to one. The chasing is probably my favourite element after having to put up with looping myself during my time playing Killer, the rush is much more enjoyable on the Survivor side.

I made my way from Yellow Rank Survivor up to today where I am now Red Rank, and continuing to enjoy Survivor due to the lack of stress and frustration hurled at you in the post-game lobby (I am aware that there is an option to turn this off, but I do like to speak to teams from time to time or even to say how well the other side played).

Not really wanted to play Killer since the Nurse nerf, nor due to the upcoming Legion nerf as it enforces a change of playstyle that I do not like/agree with due to how Feral Frenzy has been changed.

I think there needs to be an incentive for Killers now, especially with SWF bullying and bodying them at the higher ranks. I must admit that I haven't had an issue with SoloQ yet as a Survivor, although I'm sure I will likely find an issue sooner rather than later with it.

    A series of nerf.

There is no reason to continue the killer.

    The killer side needs practice.

    The developer does n’t understand

why should killers play in red/purple ranks where the game can end in under 5 min? a single mistake means a loss, a certain map will usually mean a loss. and just all around stress stress stress. plus Tbagging, SWF, etc. what reasons are there to be in red rank? that is why I hit rank 1 then derank instantly

    It's because survivors are OP.

best part is that unless you 4k you will probably only black pip unless you have pretty much everyone on death hook, had great chases and no insta down stuff like hillbilly. meat all those requirements and a 3k? you pip. but if you are a hillbilly or another killer with some isnta down techniques you need 4k's all day to just pip. sometimes you even depip with only 2 kills. also even better if it is one of those stomp games where people will kill themselves on hook, a 4k is stil a black pip

  • Galklife
    Galklife Member Posts: 726

well 1st thing is SWF with 1 red rank will look for red rank killer no mather what xd

2nd survs are getting points towards emblems easier and easier (in some way i understand because their emblems strictly depends if killer is doing good, when killer wont down anyone, facecamp/hard tunnel) and comparing to some months ago now survs are getting points from: cleansing dull totems, when youre chased youre getting extra lightbringer points, benevolent is easier and easier (literally 1 safe unhook and 1 heal = at least gold)

its like 2 or 3 days since i tried to not rank up as surv, its pretty much impossible unless killer tunnels you from start, camp you or win game via 4men slug on 5 gens xd, 1 gen, not die in like 5min, unhook and heal, semi decent 1 chase gives you silver, silver, gold, silver-gold xd thats waaaaay too easy to rank up

but main issue is SWF MM change because now killers at green rank have problems with finding lobby (because most likely they would get swf lobby that now is prioritised by red rank killers)

When you play survivor its very easy to black pip or single pip. Just do a gen, unhook someone, heal a bit don't die too quick and you are pretty sure to pip. You will only depip in the rare annoying games where you get tunneled quickly, or where some teammates DC early on.

Double piping as survivor is harder, but it does not matter. Basicly as long as you play regularly and don't do terrible you will keep going up the ranks.

On the killer side, things are much more swingy. Its very easy to depip if the survivors are efficient on gens. Sometimes you will work your ass off only to get a black pip, and getting the double pip pretty much require you to slug to counter the hatch.

Keys are also very common theses days in red and purple ranks and massively hurt killer emblems. You can do well the whole game and still eat a black pip because the survivors used a key and there is very little you can do about it beside mercilessly tunneling the key holder and hope nobody pick it up from the hook. That is if you even notice the key, as the bloody things are very hard to see.

Should I even mention SWF and map design at that point ? As well as voluntary ragequits and random servers DC ? I think you get the picture.

Long story short, piping as killer is much less forgiving than survivor and doubly so if you are not a fan of the big top tier killers.

You realize the reason survivor ques are instant is because there are to many killers right? If I swap over to killer it's at least 5-10 minute que.

I agree with a lot of people here: I think the biggest problem is with the emblem system. Speaking from personal experience, it's way easier to rank up as a Survivor than as a Killer, even if you aren't that good as a survivor.

Moving up the ranks is very difficult unless you're playing as an M1 killer. Trapper, Hillbilly, Huntress, Leatherface, Pig, Demogorgon and Plague will often get nothing more than a black pip for 3Ks and 4Ks, and will almost always depip if they get 2 kills or less. If your killer's power involves damaging the survivors and doesn't count as a basic attack, you will often be screwed over by the emblem system when you deserved to get 1-2 pips.

Also, I think the emblem system is another reason why Spirit is so popular in the red ranks: In addition to being really easy to learn and do well with, she relies on her normal M1 attack to damage survivors, so she never misses out on emblem points.

I play both sides, and I heavily agree with this. I'm almost rank 6 as Survivor and I'm just now scratching rank 13 for Killer and I've been playing both equally for the season. Really frustrating.

But the Nurse is still really good though. You just actually have to pay attention to where you are blinking now so you don't waste charges. It's not a nerf. But now it's even harder to learn her, so it's fair that it turns some people away from her. As a Nurse main, it kind of hurts my heart to see so many people beg for a fix on something that isn't bad.

  • DeadByGayDwight
    DeadByGayDwight Member Posts: 58

They need to fix the emblems, honestly. I don't think the devs are even paying attention to killers with instadowns. I stopped playing Myers just because I could never pip with him. If I went into tier 3, I was sure to bypass the chaser emblem and end up only getting a safety pip...even if I got a 4k.

  • DeadByGayDwight

It's not a dedicated server problem, it's a Dead by Daylight problem. Matchmaking has been an issue for as long as I can remember.

  • DeadByGayDwight
    DeadByGayDwight Member Posts: 58

I'm starting to find her the same way. She's good to me, but I'm not really sure if it's worth learning her anymore. It's the same with Spirit for me, honestly. Maybe it's just my bad experiences with both killers in my survivor games, but they are just less appealing to me now then before I picked them up (I still hate playing as Spirit though). I'll have to give Wraith a try though. I would recommend playing Hag, she's honestly really fun for me.

I just never found Nurse fun to begin with. You have such an all-or-nothing power that's extremely punishing if you miss, but allows you to destroy even the best survivor teams if you can land a hit consistently. It just feels stupid.

    Agree.

I hope we will give more bloodpoints for killer and fix map balance between both side.

  • MegMain98
    MegMain98 Member Posts: 2,919

It’s only for certain killers though. Billy and Plague being the main culprits. Since the meta is to not cleanse against Plague, she can kill everybody and get 28K points and not pip due to the chaser emblem. Billy has an instadown so that is obvious.

Most other killers have no problem pipping. The other instadown killers (Myers, Ghostface, Bubba) are different due to either having to work for their instadown (stalking) or being so bad that they can’t use their instadown most of the time (Bubba). So they get M1 hits a majority of the time.

I don’t find it hard to pip as most killers, but I do play Plague the most so I pip less frequently. I’m still at Rank 2 though.

  • LordGlint
    LordGlint Member Posts: 8,685

I've gotten MANY chainsaws as Bubba, lol. Its also screwed me over... Ended a game the other day with him in about 2 minutes after sawing through the majority of the team and finishing the last guy with 2 mallets. Safety pip...

It’s well known that Bubba’s chainsaw isn’t that great. It’s just so easily avoidable and survivors can force him to M1 at strong loops. I’ve seen some really good players who main Bubba. I haven’t put much time into him so maybe I’m missing something.

I just meant that Bubba is more likely to down survivors in two hits than Billy and Plague so it’s more likely he’ll pip if he gets a 4K as opposed to Billy and Vommy Mommy.

Poor Bubba can’t even pip if you can use his chainsaw effectively. The sad life of Leatherdaddy :(

From my experience, using monitor you're much more likely to catch someone out before they GET to those strong loops. If you go for the saw instead of M1ing, you dont give them the speed boost they use to reach those spots either. They typically are forced to go with whatever weaker pallet loop is nearby, in which you can push them AWAY from from strong loops by revving the saw and bringing in down on that pallet when they're in JUST the right position to guarantee they get the minimum amount of distance on ya. Bubba may not have ATON going for him, but... Hes got afew tricks to work with. Id say about 60% of my downs with him are with the saw.

They made it really hard to pip in red ranks after the plague update, i remember i got my first "entity displeased" with legion on purple ranks despite the fact it was almost impossible to de-pip with them before the update.

I disagree on the chainsaw, mega charge speed, little longer to charge than lunge but will get the insta down no problem, can't remember my add ons for him, once I finish work and get home I'll check
