Does Rank Matter?
So I a few days ago I got back to playing Dead by Daylight after not playing for three weeks so I missed out on rank reset, so I was still rank 10. In my first few games back I felt sorry for the killer, particularly against this rank 12 Ghostface. I looped him for three gens whilst only using one pallet until they abandoned the chase and ignored me like the plague, whilst I escaped unbroken. There were couple of times he was on the verge of disconnecting.
So I'm making this post as I hear a lot of "rank doesn't matter" but in my opinion the levels in quality differs a lot between rank 10 and rank 1. Rank 10 is more casual, while rank 1 is more competitive.
The match I had against the Ghostface reminded me of when I was watching a Tru3talent video, where he was talking about the difference between rank 1 and rank 12. I have linked that video as well as the images of the ghostface game (I haven't blurred the survivors names in the game as I'm not name shaming).
Comment below your opinions whether you agree or disagree with me. This post is mainly from a survivor point of view, as I'm a survivor main and I don't play killer at high ranks anymore (last time I was rank 1 as killer was October 2018).

The answer is yes, and no.
Rank matters in the sense that it does make a difference to matchmaking, and is a very rough indicator of player skill.
On the other hand, there aren't really enough ranks to be able to tell a player's skill level accurately just by looking at their rank, and also there are many people who have reached a rank they really shouldn't be at due to how easy it is to rank up, particularly as survivor, as well as other significant flaws in the ranking system. That's why I say it's only a "very rough" indicator of skill level.
So it's an overstatement to say that "rank means nothing", but it's also not a direct reflection of your worth as a player the way some people make it out to be.

It matters to a degree. There's a world of difference between rank 20 and 1. Between 10 and 1? Sometimes there's a big difference but often it's because the player doesn't play enough to keep up with the rank reset every month.
But between rank 1/2 and 5/6? Not really too much of a difference, in my experience.

Imo rank only matters when the individual is actively trying to rank up, because when they’re trying to rank up and they get stuck, that’s where they belong.
I’ve got my rank 1 achieves, I don’t care about rank. I’m a purple survivor currently, and I would wager I’m not nearly as good as people would consider the average purple to be, but I’m not trying to rank up so it’s not indicative of my overall level. I’m also currently a green rank killer when I’d probably be higher if I cared about my rank. As is I’m happy to go easy if a DC happens early, and I’m super inclined to give the hatch if the last person played well and wasn’t a dick, so I’m not ranking up as often as I would be if I were trying.

It's such a messed up concept - especially for killer.
If I play Spirit all the way to rank 5 and then switch to Leatherface am I a rank 5 Leatherface? No I am not but according to the game I am.

How would you know?
Anyways, I sit at rank 1 and 2 survivor, but i'm a trash can. I'm incredibly mediocre at running a killer and i'd say 50% of the time I get downed before I make it to a window or pallet. I don't play stealthy at all, I just know what I should be doing depending on what state the match is in (for the most part).
I know on survivor side, rank pretty much means nothing other than how much you play. Even at rank 1, there is a massive skill gap between good and bad survivors. A ton of people at rank 1 only know how to play stealthy and play like a rank 20 once the killer finds them.

Definitly. Everyone saying something other is kinda dumb or has never played after a rank 15 and a rank 5 killer in a row.

Kinda.
I get the opposite of enjoyment out of people once i hit red.

The only thing you can really say is that rank is correlated to higher levels of skill. That's really all you can say.

I like keeping my rank in purples if I can for faster queues and more relaxed matches. If there was a reason to want to be in red ranks like a shard bonus, I'd absolutely say rank matters. As it stands though, it only affects queue times and roughly how good of players are going to be in the match with you.

It matters to some extend. It's really hit and miss as it is right now. You might get que with people like you who had 3 weeks break but you might also get lobby with rank 10s p3 Claudettes that spent an entire month to get to rank 10 and gonna sandbag the match.
Rank matters enough to dodge all the yellow rank ques tho
