Rift has made the game toxic

I know this game has been toxic but since these challenges have been introduced everyone is sooo sweaty. I’m a killer main usually, I do both sides almost equally but I’ve been playing survivor for the challenges and killers are definitely playing different and it seems to be for the worst. More tunneling and camping than ever, especially with the basement challenges. Can’t even try to joke around or farm with a killer anymore. As a killer I’ve been farming with survivors to give them a break because it seems like they need it. I’ve only noticed the change with killers and not survivors. I hope they don’t do anymore basement challenges in the future :( I’d like to hear your guys experiences and thoughts on how the archives have changed the game. I do enjoy having a goal each game so that’s one thing I can say I enjoy about them :)

(I don’t post much so sorry if this is in the wrong category)

I wish I could've matched with you while trying to do a flashlight save. Never used a flashlight until tome release and it's near impossible to get a flashlight save as in red rank, killers will wall themselves or scout around to make sure you aren't there.

    My experience's quite the opposite.

Made more friends after Archives came than the years before it combined.

Some challenges i indeed do not prefer, specifically the ones that encourage the behaviour most do not enjoy, but overall i haven't felt a big impact from playing either side because of them.

Not a big fan of Charms, but the BP's nice, i'll probably stop caring about the current Rift once i hit Wraith's head cosmetic.

It's still difficult to pull off, but you don't actually need a flashlight save for that challenge. You just need to "blind the killer while they are carrying a survivor" which means you don't have to worry about timing with the pickup animation or anything.

yeah the issue is the killer won't pick up if they're vulnerable. heck even when the game is literally over: 2 of us remaining with 3+ gens up they don't let me get a blind in rq ><

That's unfortunate 🙁 I managed it in red ranks but it took me quite a few games before I got a killer who was silly enough to pick someone up in an open area. Maybe it's a platform/regional thing. Luckily, there are potatoes at red ranks in all regions and platforms, so it's just a matter of getting lucky with a bad (or nice) killer.

I've seen way more toxic behavior on the survivor side (hook farming, flashlight spamming, etc.), but I agree with the premise on the whole.

The design philosophy behind the rift seems economic rather than game-health based.

Economically, it makes sense to make the later challenges very difficult/impractical. More difficult = less completion = fewer rift fragments = fewer reward tiers unlocked = more incentive to buy the battlepass so you get rewards more easily.

If the rift was made to increase game health, the challenges would all be more like tier 1 or 2, encouraging players to vary from their staple meta perks, and to vary their playstyles, but each individual challenge would be relatively easily accomplished.

I think it'd be interesting to have "use this combination of perks" challenges. Maybe something like "vault 15 times while being chased with the perks Dance With Me, Lithe, and Quick and Quiet."

To encourage people to try new perks rather than force them to grind even more, the perks should just be made available to use while the challenge is selected. If the player likes the perks and doesn't already have them, it will encourage them to purchase the DLC or use the shrine to get the perks in the future.

It should be fun and encourage players to maybe try new things, not saddle them with crazy RNG finish-this-in-one-trial frustration.
