The Spirit changes did almost nothing to affect what makes her annoying to play against.

It's lovely that free hits from accidentally bumping into a survivor are gone, but the key points that make Spirit a miserable experience have really not been addressed by her changes. Namely:

There is 0 feedback to her power. You cannot make any form of informed or reactionary decision against the Spirit's power. You can know she's phasing, and your options are "completely guess where she is and hope I don't go down from a hit launched while invisible." That isn't fun. There's no skill to going against an opponent that has a massive amount of information as to your precise location, and all you know is "she's right up my ass."

Which brings us to the other big issue, sound. If you don't have Iron Will, you're #########. If you do have Iron Will, she has Stridor and you're ######### anyway. It's impossible to play around giving your exact location to her constantly. You can try all the backtracking and walking and avoiding grass patches all you like, but when your character keeps shouting "I'm right here!" it's pointless, and it sucks to play. At the very least, Iron Will should finally be changed to trump Stridor. If you're burning a perk JUST to not make injured grunts, there's no reason a perk that makes everyone louder and easier to find should ALSO be the one that trumps silence in the injured condition. It really doesn't feel great when the only somewhat reliable counterplay to a killer's power is 100% negated by their perk.

I agree. The changes are nice but the main problem still exists. She is still unenjoyable to go against and they did almost nothing to fix that. I expect the complaints to start again soon.

Pretty much this. The mere mention of a nerf for pretty much anything will drive away people from playing...anything. Even though Spirit and Nurse are still the strongest killers in the game, they're now F tier because they got nerfed. I rarely saw either this week.

Also, in Nurse's defense she's not as fun to play anymore. But Spirit's gameplay is unchanged except prayer beads.

I always run iron will and spine chill because they are great against all killers. So after I get injured I usually run in circles to make scratch marks really messy. Then I I slowly vault a window or try to hide behind a tall object. It works 90% of the time even if the spirit has Stridor.

Also I listen for her footsteps to know if it is safe to say hidden or go to the nearest pallet

Almost the same here, she's certainly a lot more rare than before and the spirits I did face were really good ones, not the ones that do well normally and then fail to get a single down if all the survivors have Iron Will or whatever.

As said, a lot of people just hear the word "nerf" and immediately think that means whatever got nerfed is completely useless it seems.

I just hope they give her a cool unique vaulting animation as the default-ish one she has now looks so awkward on her 😄

I don't know what else to say. If you don't practice and always DC, it's pointless to discuss things

She just needs a little noise or jungle when she activates it in a chase. Doesnt need to be constant and doesnt need to play when it ends so she can still surprise you

Her whole design is to not give feedback to survivors. Devs don't seem willing to change that aspect and they are probably done with Spirit at the moment.

Also, Iron Will trumping Stridor would make Stridor entirely pointless. The only purpose of Stridor is to counter Iron Will, take that away and you nerfed to the ground an already weak perk.

That's the issue with killer's like spirit. In her current form she's never going to be fun to play against. It was like old nurse or current Doctor. The problem isn't with their addons but their base kit and how they work. They need to do reworks for unfun characters but that takes a lot of time and it's not something they can consistently do with all the other stuff they have to do for the game. Until that happens we just have to be happy with whatever nerfs/balance changes they add

Spirit actually does make a sound when she’s phasing it sounds like static. So their is a tell when she is phasing just saying.

Might also have to do with the recent update messing up sound terribly. As plague against a survivor who was sick I stopped hearing coughing behind a L wall that I was going around one side of so I assumed the survivor abandoned it in the opposite direction so I walked back and turned that direction, then back to see the survivor just continued pressing forward but the wall had blocked her coughing.

I don’t mind having 1 killer that is more stressful to go against. And quite honestly I hate going against Freddy more then spirit

Imagine someone going to kill you, please make it enjoyable for me.

Didn't bother to continue to read past "There is 0 feedback to her power. "

spine chill helps if you are unable to recognize the tells she does have.

At least you can actively see the person attempting to kill you, with Spirit their is almost no feedback to her phase walking.

You should NEVER have to run a perk to counter one specific killer, I don't need No Mither to counter Plague, I don't need Small Game to counter Trapper or Hag.

I agree that core problem of Spirit still exists, but what I have seen is that all Spirits have switched to Freddy.

Cant really tell which is more unfun to face. Old Amulet + Waki Spirit or Forever Freddy.

I wish she was still a popular pick but seems everyone switched suddenly.

If you are talking about the whoosh, you are not supposed to be hearing that while in the husk's terror radius, this is a bug.

If you are talking about a different noise, this is either something that is again, a bug.

And for anyone saying just look at the glass shards because they glow slightly, schoolgirl outfit, blazing lineage, not consistent.

I'm not attacking you but... You want Spirit destroyed. She lost collison, vault animation and some of her boosted add ons. It isn't enough? Imagine giving indication when she's phasing? What advantage will compensate the fact that she is a 110% killer?

  • coppersly
    coppersly Member Posts: 2,318

You say it like while she's phasing she can see survivors and know exactly where they are but the fact is when she's phasing she is playing almost the same guessing game you are as a survivor now that collision is gone.

Sure there are addons and perks that help tracking but just the same there are ones that help survivors hide those. She's fine now, the nerfs were actually semi well done and left the killer in tact with her identity and fun factor largely unaffected. Nurse is the exact opposite.

Same, I think she is still fun to play. Nurse in other hand...

She can still be easily looped if you know what you are doing

Let kilelrs have something powerfull for once

we only have spirit, hillbilly and Freddy at the moment

She can hear survivor's footsteps, breathing, grass rustling, groans of pain.

Survivors can hear, her footsteps if they're lucky.

Survivors can't tell if she is phasing except for a bug, or an inconsistent method that would most likely get you killed.

It's a complete guessing game for survivors, standing still and the survivor guessing wrong isn't a mindgame.

Stridor insta counters iron will, and allows for louder normal breathing.

Also nurse is still top tier, she just can't be used by people who aren't willing to put in the time to use her and just slap 5 blink or omegablink.

  • SammyWasabi
    SammyWasabi Member Posts: 89

The issue is that the spirit's skill lies within standing still or having good headphones.

Sure, good survivors may beat up mediocre spirits, but the spirit's counterplay is guessing.

I've noticed a huge decrease in her pick rate on PS4. Then again that always tends to happen when there's new killers so I'll wait until another week or so for Oni's honeymoon to be over and see then.

Personally since I faced spirits constantly, I do know how to outplay them for a bit during chases even without iron will. Thing is... Just like with Freddy she's boring to go against because it always goes like this: spirit finds someone, hooks them, walks away, hears person is unhooked, phases back to hook, rinse and repeat. For Freddy, it's hook someone, teleport to a gen to pop goes the weasel it, with add ons that slow the game tremendously. I find Freddy worse though because he can camp all he wants without getting punished for it, which is complete BS.

Her basekit changes had nothing to do with the addons for 5 blink and omega. Literally nothing, it was overkill. thanks.

  • SammyWasabi
    SammyWasabi Member Posts: 89

It was tho, if you needed more than 2 blinks, you weren't a skilled nurse. The cooldown on her blinks for basekit wasn't needed I'll agree with that.

I'm really glad someone said this. I was literally saying this to a friend earlier today lol; the only good thing is that I rarely see her anymore (which is probably why the complaints have subsided).

Shes fine. Heck even before her nerf she was easy to loop.

Now a days I never get a spirit it's either the Oni, Ghostface or Trapper.

Spirit is pretty much a rarity rn.

I don't know about that, I've played against a few Spirits since the nerf and I've been seeing a lot less uncounterable BS hits.

  • coppersly
    coppersly Member Posts: 2,318

That's what I was saying. I loved playing omega-blink but I wouldn't be sad with it gone as long as base-kit Nurse was untouched but now she's not only got no real good addons but now she's also janky and very unfun.

You adapt and take time to learn counterplays. Smh you don't want to git gud. /s

If you play as or against her, it's all about if she effs up or not in a chase. The whole thing about guessing is a misleading comparison. She doesn't guess, she tracks down and reacts. What the survivor guesses is irrelevant, because if the spirit plays optimally, then the survivor is guessing between situations where they get hit.

When I play as her that aspect is rewarding, because I know that it's up to me to win or lose. When I play against her, if it's not a potato, the consolation is that I know that is not because of any errors of mine that I get hit. However, in the end, she's a single-player game disguised in a pvp environment.
