Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

[Discussion] Dead By Daylight is not "Horror Game"

Speaking clearly and directly, I think you should change the genre to this game, because it is certainly not geared towards the game horror genre.

If developers really oriented this game to the genre of horror it would gain much more, besides being a +18

I do not know if many of the players agree, but I think it would be by both parties as much as survivor and killer more fun. Also on the part of survivors you would feel what it is really to have a murderer behind ...

But ... how to guide now after 2 years of play to a horror game? I think that at this point is too difficult, since they would have to implement a lot of new content, so that the game is at the height of a horror game.

The debate is open to all, I hope you say your point of view and the mods too! : D

I find it to be a horror game. There are times where I am a bit terrified in the beginning of the match and it is too quiet. I am not sure if it’s Myers who is quick to snatch me off the gen or if it is the pig. And do not even get me started with the Hag new buff, jump scares happen more often since they are in places I wouldn’t expect.

However I would say I only find it to be a horror game mostly playing as a solo player. When I am playing survivor with friends it doesn’t feel like a horror game at times. I mostly play with my friend in rl.

My friend finds the Mori to be scary from certain killers. Depending on the killer he doesn’t watch it when he get moried he just dc. To him it feels like it is actually who is getting killer. I tell him he should should just turn his head lol

Overall their could be ways to bring a more horror to the game by reducing swf and making it so the killer is not taken as a joke.

side note: The HillBilly frontier miner mountain savage outfit give me the chills whenever I am going up against him.

It feels more like action horror kind of like what resident evil 5 and 6 were

It is indeed horror just for the fact that it generates a tense environment (I mean the frightful tense type, not the other one). Thing is, very few games will keep scaring you repeatedly the more you play it. The sense of fear is lost because, as human, you adapt to that setting (incoming Survivor main joke).

For example, play Amnesia TDD several times, you will memorise the events that take place. Areas like the Sewers, Prison, Archives, etc (except for Choir, that one always terrified me to death), will become just simple hallways. While DBD has not that kind of predictability, I feel its a good example. The more you get chased, the more you experience with the killer, the less scared you will feel.

Back when I started playing, I admit chases scared me a lot. Same as new survivors will probably run away as soon as they hear the heartbeat. The tension is still there for me, but it happens less often.

There is almost no way to create a multiplayer horror game. After a while, you will get used to atmosphere.

I started to play this game without watching stream or videos. Every map was new and it was frightening for me. Then as I get used to the game, the game lost its atmosphere.

Only way to make this game a little bit more scary is to give survivors first person. However, survivors can't play without 3rd person due to chase mechanics.

I used to say the same thing, but as of recently, No Mither makes every game a horror game, and sign of a heartbeat could lead to your hook, truly awesome!

I think you just get use to this game. Man when I first saw someone stream this game and hook someone, my first thought was, "#########?!". It was insanely gruesome. Huntress and her humming lullaby was pretty eerie too. Now I barely notice any of it.

It feels more like the NASCAR simulator.

The only way to turn it into a horror game would be to add a hardcore mode.
No terror radius, no red stain, no scratch marks, no aura reading, and no perks.

I find dbd to be a horror game. Seeing a Myer just standing there watching me always freaks me out. Also the pig and the hag's traps scare the crap out of me each time. Sometimes if I am the last survivor I also find it to be pretty intense and scary as you do not know if you will make the hatch or get the exit in time.

That would be cool as a play mode

I'm a new player. Started a few days ago. Game is scary but, like any other game, you get used to it and it doesnt have the same effect it did the first time playing. You can't tell me you play *insert generic horror game title here* and still get the same effect every time you play the game. Ive played thru resident evil 7 10 times and the effect wears off after the first playthru. Couple spots here and there that you kinda forget about. Same with amnesia , and literally any other horror game. Its still a "horror" game but the effects will never be the same.

Looking for that hatch is so ######### intense. I happened to find one last night out of sheer luck while being chased and already injured.

Yes I hate being the last survivor and having to find the hatch because it is so intense.
