Rank Reset Change Theory

I have a theory and prediction about this change.

Is there anyway for us to get a graphic or a set of data about what % of the playerbase is at what rank as of Dec 12 2019?

I'd like to see if my prediction that a larger % of the playerbase will end up at the higher ranks by the end of next year or by the time the emblem system is changed to more accurately measure skill... whichever comes first.

I believe that with enough matches, anyone can rank up in dead by daylight and this rank reset change will create several balance issues in the future due to lesser skilled players being ranked higher than they ought to be.

Balance decisions based on lesser skilled players have created several issues in the game and having red ranks filled with people who have yellow and green rank skill as data points for balance decisions would make a rough situation worse.

In my opinion of course.

Anyway, can we get hooked up with that particular data set?

Yep, I'm living proof of that one.

Nah. It's not simply just having "enough matches" to rank up with killer. With killer, you can get 4 kills and not rank up at times.

I agree with this to a point. But once you get to purple ranks, this idea kind of goes out the window. Ranking up in purple/red ranks requires you to consistently perform well. At red ranks you basically have to OVER perform to rank up. It might be easy to safety pip at these ranks, but to earn a pip takes effort. This goes for both survivor and killer.

Although, in theory, if you just meet the minimum to not depip consistently you will rank up just because you will get games with potatoes that you can just run over, but the speed at which you do this might not be fast enough to beat rank reset. If you are this player you'd need to play the game a LOT, like several hours every day the entire month, and even then if you are very good it will be a struggle.

With the older systems yea this would be true. Even the old emblem system it would be true. But now that you have to basically get 4 golds to rank up at red ranks I don't see this being a thing unless you just play the game a lot a lot.

As the ranking system is set up right now killer is by far the harder to rank up. They really need to tweak survivor a bit. I liked how it was I think when plague came out. But everyone complained and they made it easy again.

It is now literally impossible for any survivor to end the season lower than purple ranks.

My survivor was on green rank and left my cat, ClawsIsTheNextKiller sat next to my controller. When I got back he had got me to Red Ranks and was Teabagging a yellow ranked Hillbilly.

I mean I stopped playing for about 2 months and I'm still purple ranks now. I'm back for the final push of the rift.

I feel like it’s disproportionately tipping the scales to purple and red ranks. It’s going to make it really hard for new players to find games—even harder than before.

Seems to me as it’s meant to be a band-aid fix for the lack of red rank killers.

This will artificially increase the number of killers available to play high ranks until they realize how unfun red ranks are. These killers will then switch back to red rank survivor, only to create further disproportion of survivors to killers ratio.

Perhaps this system was made to buy the devs enough time to try to figure out a proper solution.

    All speculation though...

Honestly they need to combine a few of their different systems of the past couple years. When the Emblem system was first introduced, it was too difficult to rank up. Then they eased it a bit. Then they made it harder for Survivors to rank up. Then they changed that and made it harder for Killers to rank up.

I think they need to make them both equally hard to rank up, but introduce a "time played" element that factors into the math. Red Ranks don't always represent expert skill, but if they play more than lower ranks, then most of them will play better in theory (and then there's me--I once had a killer tell me I was a prime example of how Survivors rank up too easily. And he was not wrong. But I play a lot so I naturally rank up as I go.)

And this new rank reset protocol is odd to me. Why even have a rank reset at this point if you're only going to go down a couple ranks? Part of the purpose of rank reset was to improve matchmaking for brand new players. I think rank reset also needs to follow some kind of algorithm. Like looking at the individual players' stats, how often they pipped and escaped/4Ked, how much time was played on average, etc. I'm sure that math is incredibly complicated to implement, but I think the information is very pertinent.
