Why was the ability to see ranks in lobby removed?
I know the devs mentioned that it was a bug, but they changed Mad Grit due to a bug, and the community enjoyed it. So, what about the ranks?

It encouraged players to dodge excessively.

It showed their bad matchmaking upfront which caused the lobby dodging as @Pulsar stated.

Killers dodged if they saw ranks that were too good and survivors dodged if placed out of their rank level. Lots of dodging.

Killers couldn't see the ranks though.

We could on ps4 for a bit. They stayed above the players head in lobby. They also dodge if they see keys, legacy cosmetics, or too many tool boxes.

What was wrong with dodging? If you already could see a bad game coming, what's wrong with moving on?

I play on PS4 and never noticed... legacy isn't on PS4 (sadly). I'd dodge too if I saw keys/too many toolboxes. Don't feel like playing a game where I know I'll be screwed out of it.

I try not to dodge. I do get anxious when I see multiple Nea players as I play hag and they all have urban evasion. Phew

As others have stated, it gave people an excuse to dodge lobbies, which wasn't something the devs wanted to encourage. The main reason for that is that lobby dodging increases queue times for everyone involved, and since the devs are making an active effort to reduce queue times at the moment, it was considered counter-productive to leave a feature like that in the game.

I dunno, ten minutes plus in killer lobby just to find two red ranks, a green, and a brown vs my purple seems pretty counter productive to me.
Just felt like it was a tool that allowed players to get a measure of a match before going in. If matchmaking was actually competent, I'd see their reasoning for hiding ranks, but as it stands. . . not really, no.

I agree that it was good to be able to get the measure of your teammates before going into the match. I used it for that exact purpose, and it was helpful. But unfortunately, too many people were using it for a purpose that the devs don't want to encourage. I'm not saying I agree with the decision on the whole, but that is the reasoning behind it.
