Do people derank on purpose for easy games?

I’m rank 9 after reset and just played a round against a rank 18 huntress. The thing is she had top tier perks, and was pretty epic with the Hatchets. It felt off like there was no way she was rank 18.

Then as killer, I played against a swf rank 19 squad with all purple perks, and they were looping and using flashlights like seasoned pros. I’m only rank 14 killer so I get either rank 6-8 or like this group rank 19. I could swear they deranked on purpose. Is this a thing?

    Unfortunately yes.

There are sadly people who intentionally demote for easier games and stomping people who are far below their skill level; ruining the fun for the person being stomped.

Instead of getting good, they prefer to stomp lower-skilled players.

    *For fairer games*

The above is true, although it's not possible to intentionally derank below rank 16 or 17. So they may have intentionally deranked, or they may just be veteran players who haven't played in a while and just got their ranks reset over time, or possibly a combination of the two.

Yeah something just felt off. Having played for about a year now, I can usually spot a newbie and these players were not at all new. All same exact rank too. Weird.

Yeah, if they were grey ranks they probably got there from a rank reset. I was originally thinking that they might have been new players who just levelled up characters before playing them, until you mentioned that they were playing like they knew what they were doing.
