There was no rationale for why they changed this. Same thing with why did they change the button mashing wiggle to skill check to also include bonus shorter time(up to one second) off of wiggling.1 -

It would make chases far too painful. While I do think survivors should eventually go down, killers naturally gaining a huge speedboost that basically doesn't go away on pallet smash just 15 sec…16 -

I don't think there is a clear answer. A chase that lasts 90 seconds at the start is horrifying, a chase that lasts 90 seconds in mid-game/when multiple survivors aren't on gens isn't …6
