If the basement spawns in the boiler room, you can often pretty much expect to be dead when hooked there. It's an absolute deathtrap and 2 of the generators may spawn there as well1 -

The hit registration was never the issue, the servers were and always will be. Obviously hit validation wasn't going to do anything5
