where there is only one survivor and the hatch spawns

when 3 survivors are dead and the hatch spawns can the killer still close the hatch and does the end game still happen for the last survivor ? so the last survivor has to open the exit gate?

  Then you get to hope the gate isnt next to the hatch so you actually have a chance to open it.
