Self Care Is A Little Itty Bit Overrated

Until recently, I had always thought Self Care was a must have. It wasn't until I read a very old post on the forums that talked about how Self Care was overrated that my mindset was altered. Not thinking it was almost completely useless (as the OP thought), just that it is not as essential as I had previously thought.

Self Care is a good perk because you don't have to worry about Franklin's knocking it off you, and you don't have to worry about wandering around until you find a teammate to heal you. However it is quite "slow"  and if you are affected by healing reduction effects, then it's even slower. In general, it wastes time you could be using to do gens/totems or looping he Killer.

In Solo Queue it definitely works best, but you could still just take a Medkit with charge increasing addons and get 4 full heals out of it, with practically the same effect, just the Medkit will be faster. If a Killer has Franklin's, just go back later and grab the Medkit. And of course in SWF, especially if it's a 4 man, Self Care would just be nearly a complete waste of a perk slot.

But I don't know, this mindset may be biased towards my build of Spine Chill, Iron Will, and Dead Hard because I like to be stealthy at all times, and Dead Hard away whenever needed. What do you guys think about it now that some time has passed.

It was a pretty great perk at launch but as better perks have come in to picture and the meta has altered to be anti-healing, it's a waste of a perk slot at this point.

Until today I had not seen self care on almost a year except the random match every couple weeks.

Self Care is best killer perk.

I don't fallow the meta. I hate anti healing builds. So I still run it. But I try to take med kits as much as I can.

Self-care + Sabotage used to be the meta way back in early DbD.

You want to talk about a perk that's dead? Sabotage.

Is everyone finally catching up with the meta? self-care changes were made like a year ago

saboteur against a trapper can be fun allows you to shut down immediate retraps

Well, for one, any perk that completely negates a killer power isn't fun, its a cake walk.

Two, the chances of getting a trapper, if we do a dice roll, is 1/15.

Funny thing is, selfcare never got nerfed. Yet a lot of forum/reddit users think its garbage now. Probably same people who sabotaged at release. Half a year ago, billy was claimed the least skillful killer. Now he's skillful again. Fotm talk and im curious when people will pick up on selfcare again

    Spirit is the hardest killer

    Spirit is least skillful killer

    Billy is trash

    Billy is op

    Selfcare is op

    Selfcare is trash

You do yours. I consider the ALTERNATE options and stay with selfcare

I’m curious as to what you actually do build. Because Self Care does seem entirely situational but at the same time not due to several factors like teammate competence, Killer perks, your perks, play-style, and length of games.

It’s more of a perk that you need but don’t have or one that you have but don’t need.

But I just found it not as essential anymore because of Medkits with lots of charges, and because of my build.

    Inner Strength > Selfcare.

If you take medkits, they can replace selfcare and other healing perks. Usually you have a lot of them hoarded up. So if you go for maximum benefits, medkits are great.

I think its well suited for solo players, who dont take items into the trial and dont want to minmax with a full second chance build. I usually go with selfcare, botany knowledge (sometimes replaced with DS/BT), iron will and balanced landing. Also, its important that you're somewhat decent at looping. Or else, healing itself (selfcare, inner strength, teammates healing etc) is not really worth it for you. If you can last a decent time in chases, then healing becomes efficient. Selfcare away, as long as you make that health state count

Self-Care is a waste of a slot. Bond is a way better healing perk.

    100% yes!

Switching SC for Bond was the best decision I have ever made in DBD.

Bond gives you an insane amount of information. Who is being chased by killer, who is going for hook save, who is on nearby gen, who can heal me or use a heal, etc. I can even see who is sitting around doing nothing so I can go shame point at them.

Self Care is a major time waste... if you don't want to run Bond then just bring a med kit and use the slot for something more efficent.

Leave the med kit at home, bring a tool box to gen faster...

It is and always will be a good perk but it's now overshadowed by others options and unless you pair it with botany it's not really worth it due to the heal speed. That alone wastes two perk slots making it again not worth it over other options. I'd say use it if you have none of other options too use.

Inner strength is a better perk for those that know totem spawns. It's also good for those that don't know the spawns but less efficient as you can spend more time looking but in turn that also helps learn them.

Medkits are so fast now with the right add-ons and paired with bottany it's a no brainer and allows the use of other perks.

Bond is also better as you get info even when not injured which is amazing. Paired with iron will it's even better imo as being quiet when injured really confuses a lot of killers.
