This is the new killer! Chapter 14 Speculation
I think this is the most suitable one:
Oni (鬼) are creatures from Japanese folklore, variously translated as demons, devils, ogres or trolls. They are popular characters in Japanese art, literature and theatre.
Depictions of oni vary widely but usually portray them as hideous, gigantic ogre-like creatures with sharp claws, wild hair, and two long horns growing from their heads. They are humanoid for the most part, but occasionally, they are shown with unnatural features such as odd numbers of eyes or extra fingers and toes. Their skin may be any number of colors, but red and blue are particularly common.
POWERS:
On top of their immense strength and appetite, some oni are also said to shapeshift or to fly at will, allowing them to traverse great distances quickly.

I don't think it's an Oni as that is a Hannya mask, a female demon. It represents female pain and rage, so it could be Rin's momma. Although it could be that the devs mistook it for an Oni mask too 😅

I didn't know there was a Hannya so that's pretty cool, i love the Japanese culture and lore so thanks for teaching us a new thing :)
I'm thinking the Killer is the first Yamaoka and the mask belongs to him so apparently that dude either didn't care about his own culture and wore it for style or he had some identity issues ?

Hannya masks are also symbols of good fortune and luck, so maybe that's why it's worn by the Yamaoka ancestor? Or maybe that's not his mask? Who knows lol. I'm just speculating it's either Rin's momma or the mask was a mistake lol
Edit: some Hannya and Oni actually bring blessings to families, so that could be why that mask is these too!

I'm kinda a weeb, and I love mythology and symbolism so I research stuff like this alot. Turns out some women can be made Hannya demons when they go through extreme grief or when they feel betrayed too. I really hope it's Rin's mom as a Hannya, they can shapeshift, mimic people and other cool stuff, lots of killer potential

She sounds like ripe pickings, it would be pretty funny if everyone turned into a vengeful demon because of what the father did and he's just sitting there wallowing in guilt.

From what we see at the teaser it fits perfectly to what is said on here. Blood spilled, flames of war, the mask, the katana, etc.

Yeah lol, would be funny if Rin's mom turned into a Hannya out of the instense feelings of betrayal of being murdered by her husband; Rin turns into a Yurei looking for revenge and the one who was originally gonna be the killer, the dad, turns into a grief stricken man and, since he's no longer fit to be a killer, gets made into a survivor. Poetic justice? Boy I'm hoping for that

Personally I think a shapeshifter would be great for the game I talk with a friend who plays too we discuss certain killer possibilities once and he mentioned an intersting concept
The shapeshifter can take the form of a random survivor while in this form they have no terror radius and move at survivor speed and can do survivor actions but while in certain range of a real survivor theyed be like something to give away that its the shapeshifter its possibly the ultimate mindf*ck early game and perks would be revolving around messing with survivors aura readings like vision up to a few meters etc

Good call! It's kinda great how these teasers lead us down paths of history while we try to figure out the mystery.
I was on to something similar. I thought that was a Kabuki theater mask, which lead me to thinking the killer was going to be one of the 47 ronin described in the "Chūshingura" which was, at some point, depicted in Kabuki and Bunraku plays. The 47 ronin were samurais who were thought to be criminals but were really out to avenge their master, and went to great lengths to do so. It's a popular story among the japanese that's still celebrate on the 14th of december at the temple where the 47 ronin were apparently buried.
It made me think the DLC would release on the 14th of december. But, none of the ronin were demons, or considered evil... and come to think of it the ronin would likely only fit in with some of the more fictional portrayals.
