Stridor vs Iron Will.
Hello dear users, I come here for this message to ask you for explanations about these perks because it is very frustrating for me to be using iron will that according to the description takes away any moaning noise from the survivor, here comes a killer using the advantage Stridor which in the description was meant to only increase the breathing of injured survivors by 50% and healthy survivors by 25% and thus the iron will is no good because it will have moaning noise the same way.
In my view the stridor should not counteract the iron will because according to your description it would only increase the sound of the survivor's breath and now several killers, especially spirits are using this perk to their advantage, because they know that the perk was poorly made and take advantage of it.

Percentages in DbD are additive not multiplicative. It leads to alot of confusion. That said they still only get 50% of the norm. Iron Will can still be pretty effective in the scenario.

Its a misconception on how perks, addons, and bonus offerings stack. These numbers are additive not multiplicative.
Think of it how bonus bp is added at the end of a match.
Lets say you earned 18,000, 4 stacks of bbq, and a BPS.
The logic used is this.
Base BP = 18,000
BBQ = Base * 100% = 18,000
BPS = Base * 100% = 18,000
Total = 54,000
Notice this is not 72,000 if you were to do exponentialy.
BBQ_T = 18,000 + (18,000 * 100%) = 36,000
BPS_T = BBQ_T+ (BBQ_T * 100%) = 72,000
It's the same with these two perks.
Normal sounds of pain = 100
Iron Will = -1*(Pain * 100%) = -100
Stridor = Pain * 50% = 50
100 - 100 + 50 = 50
In the end you are left with half your original volume.

Iron will removes the grunts of pain by 100%.
Stridor increases the breathing volume of Injured survivors by up to 50% and healthy by up to 25%.
The descriptions one can then pressume state two different mechanics which are grunts and breathing.

It makes sense for bloodpoints because everything is calculated from the base BPs.
But in this case this is not logical. If Iron Will shuts your noise to 0, Stridor shouldn't amplify anything.
That's why it's important to understand how the perks stack instead of trying to figure it out from the description (unfortunately)

Im torn about this, I do use iron will as a survivor. I recently started because I felt like after the last chapter the sounds seemed louder, even as a killer I noticed I could hear survivors in the lockers way eassier than before, so I started using it.
As a killer, while I understand why I come across a lot of iron will users (cause I do it myself) I use stridor to counter this.
So I use both.. It bugs me when a killer uses it but I can't complain cause it would be hypocritical lol

Suffer no more, you deserve a break, love yourself.

I said it another thread. In real world if you reduce something by 100% you reduce it to 0.
Now I know everything its addative in dbd, i couldnt care less.
What description should be is: Reduces grunts of pain by 100% unless another perk with opposite is played.
This way is not confusing to new people.

Even though people above stated that you would cry at 50 % volume , in an actual game it feels much quieter , you can also compare IW lvl 1 (50 % grunts reduction) without stridor to IW lvl 3 with stridor , sounds would be different .

It can only be confusing if one reads it but doesn't actually take notice of what they say.
The descriptions clearly state two different things as one refers to grunts and the other breathing. If one simply sees the word "remove" and "add" in reference to sound in the description and ignores the rest doesn't the fault then lie with the players for reading it improperly?

It doesnt say add tho... it says increase...while you can increase 0 by percentage I would still be 0. Ik addative, but still.

That's a very confusing description lol. Unless the opposite is played? You don't think new people are going to be confused on what "the opposite" is? That is not at all what a skill description should say.

You dont reduce your breathing sounds to 0 with Iron will. You decrease the pain grunts to 0. Stridor increases your breathing sounds. Whats that kind of complicted to understand by just reading the whole discriptions?

I meant to write opposite effect but I guess I forgot. I would edit it but someone has to manually check my edits so I wont.
Stridor does add grunts of pain back

Even though its grunts of pain, Iron Will mutes both pain and breathing when injured since update 4.0.0. This is most likely due to no breathing audio playing during the injured state.
In other words, it has been bugged for years.

So you are telling me that the effects are not addative as everybody says they are?
Also we are far from 4.0.0 update my dude

Not at all what I'm saying. I'm talking about Iron Will only.

Oooh I see but still it changes nothing.

I run No Mither and Iron Will a lot. This completely counters Stridor. It’s also great against the many many Spirits you face. 😂

But since iron will removes 100% of grunts and stridor increases 50% of breathing can you see why reading is the problem and not the actual math itself? the actual wording itself implies they work off two different mechanics.
That was my original point i was making as they have no real correlation to each other since they are cleary worded stating two different things.
Basically it comes down to people thinking grunts and breathing mean the same thing.
What if the mechanics are more complex than people think. There could be more than anyone knows but it seems the most basic to look at are :-
Healthy breathing.
Injured grunts of pain.
Injured breathing which is similar to the sounds of grunting.
The last one is just a way to tell the differences between injured and healthy breathing for a killer.

Stridor 3 turns Iron Will 3 into Iron Will 1/No Mither 3. Look at it that way.
Iron Will 1 means the killer has to be within 8m to hear you and even then it will be faint. So having Iron Will against Stridor WILL help, it just won't help if the killer is very close to you. By contrast, if you didn't have Iron Will 3 and the killer has Stridor 3 they can hear you loud and clear from at least 20m.
And the effects of Stridor are universal and not specific to the killer. If you are using Iron Will 3 and notice that you can hear yourself cry in pain, that means the killer has Stridor 3 (or Stridor 2 since they are effectively the same against injured survivors).
If you use both Iron Will 3 and No Mither 3 you can completely counter Stridor 3. You will make 0 noises.

I think it's pretty fair that both perks work against each other

Well in practice it's 8m. Like yea technically you could hear them at 16m but it's going to be so incredibly quiet that unless the game is dead silent you won't hear them. 8m is when you start to reliably hear them over other noises.

Yea true. Jeff, Jane, Bill, Ash. They are all loud AF. But then some like Claud or Ace are actually harder to hear.
Jeff OMG Jeff. He is so damn loud LOL

Regardless of the description, I don't think Iron Will should be countered by Stridor.
