Question About Tome Completion

Quick question: Does anybody know if you can just skip one of the challenges for now, then go back and try it again after completing the Tome it's in? Or does completing the Tome close all the challenges inside it and you just lose out on it (and the journal entry it contains)?

Reason I ask is I'm on -- no crap -- at least the 50th game trying to complete "Enlightened," and I'm completely over it. If I keep trying, I'll just take another extended break because I'm simply that sickened by it (or go completely bat-#########, rip my PC from its cords and heave it Hulk-style up into the mountains). Hate to miss out on completing things, and definitely want the journal entry for the Entity it holds, but it's not worth my sanity or complete loss of love for this game. Perhaps taking a breather so I can come back to it later, but if I have to close it to begin the next Tome upon its release soon, I don't want to lose the chance.

Any clarity, anybody? Sorry if it's been answered before; I've searched and searched and couldn't find the answer.
