I know what you mean. Since the last flashlight change, I've 'blinded' the killer twice while picking someone up. Never once has it saved them. I never take a light when I see one, and skip them in all my bloodwebs. I don't find them to have any use over a medkit or a toolbox.

That's pretty cool though, I did wonder about the wording of that challenge. So it sounds like you literally just have to blind the killer while they're carrying someone, you don't have to actually get the flashlight save.

Best way to flashlight save is to wait until the survivor they are picking up is at the height of their head

for my thousands of hours in the game, I have completed 7 flashlight blinds, 2 for tome level 1 and 5 for tome level 2 and am really dreading this one!

What I mean is that the wording of the challenge is very specific. "Blind the killer while they are carrying a survivor." According to the OP's experience, this wording is quite literal.
In certain situations, it is possible to blind the killer without actually rescuing the carried survivor, such as while the killer is picking the survivor up. This means that the challenge is actually much easier than getting a flashlight save, since all you have to do is achieve the blinding score event, you don't actually have to rescue the carried survivor to complete the challenge.

Just wanted to come back and say, I can personally confirm that this works. I got the challenge tonight by shining a torch in the killer's face while they were picking someone up. I got the blind, though not a save, because I started it too early in the animation, but at the end of the trial my challenge was still completed.

Speaking of Archives bugs, my friend sacrificed 13 survivors when playing as survivor.
Everytime one of us died in the trial while he was still in it, it would count towards it.

Many people dropped the flashlight because it's pretty difficult to use now.

Yeah the flashlight is not worth it 95% of the time. However, I also don't want it to be too easy to use because then it would be rage inducing and too powerful. Unfortunately it's better off as not very useful except in very specific circumstances. Kind of like MoM.
I remember when they made it so if you stunned or blinded the killer at any point during the pick up animation it would play out the animation and then drop them. That was ridiculous. I don't think they can get it just right tbh

Thank you for sharing, got mine with a winter party starter just now. It's funny because I accidentally actually did get the save, but I wouldn't have even tried if I didn't know this.
