According to Google it means some kind of mental awareness. So why not match with the effect?
But I agree it being underwhelming perk. Basically window of opportunity for killers. I can't see any use for it.

On the contrary, base on your description it fits perfectly. You use your perk, meaning see the auras, and then you lose it after attack, meaning you need to be more careful, not depending on the perk now.

It is useful for seeing where a survivor may go when you start the chase, wether it be a pallet or a window

That's dandy and all but my question was what does zanshin mean? Not "is the perk useful"
But it's a good explanation of why it's useful :)

The description fits perfectly :
"You are mentally alert and aware of key points on the battlefield."
That's the point of Zanshin.

Zanshin is a form of training in Japanese. So i think the name fits.
