Survivors and gates

When will survivors stop opening gates at 99%? It´s so useless, there is a plenty of time, and the only thing it does is kill you. When you run from the killer to the exit gates, you except it to be opened, or at least there should by someone who opens it, because you don´t have time to open it yourself.

    It has its uses, but too many people treat it like a rule. I've died more times because I had to touch the gate to open it while injured than I've died to the EGC and Blood Warden combined.

    I guess it works better with a more coordinated team but yeah.

    A couple of reasons. People like to make sure that there will be enough time even if someone goes down or gets hooked. They want to make sure to counter Blood Warden on the off-chance that the killer has it. They don't want to give the killer more information than they need to by letting them know that at least one gate has been opened. They want extra time to do totems or search for the hatch. They don't want to open the gate all the way just in case someone else is trying to get a gate-opening daily ritual done (I do this).

    But you're right, 99-ing the gates does come with its own set of risks, however small they may be. It's just another tactic that people like to use because the upsides outweigh the downsides in most scenarios.

    This is why as the killer I force the EGC. Once the last generator is powered I want you all out of my map.

    I honestly think the EGC should start when the fifth generator is complete. I realize they will just "99 the generator" to stop it but at least I can still use PGTW on it and stall the game a bit.

    When I'm playing survivor, I don't 99 gates. Ever. People 99'ing gates has gotten me killed. I don't think the off chance of denying a niche perk like blood warden or breaking totems is worth not having a gate open, but that's just me. If everyone is safe, I see no reason to dick around in the map for a few extra points.

    I don't think 99%ing the gate should be possible. It's way more fun when the EGC puts pressure on the killer and survivors.

    The Killer has 0 pressure due to EGC.

    @Topic:

    99ing the Exit Gates works fine, when a person is standing at the Exit Gates. More time for safes, protection from Bloodwarden... And if you are getting chased and one other person opens the gate, the Killer does not even have to catch you, because he just needs to wait those two minutes and prevents you from running away.

    So it has its uses.

    I agree. When I see a fellow survivor 99 the gate and run, I immediately open it.
