How to do better as killer? Tips?
Been having an extremely hard time lately. Im red rank 4 killer and have been getting destroyed for the past 20 matches. I almost always black pip so im not deranking. Every game is 4 survivors escaping. No matter what i do i seem to just get stomped. Ruin goes in 30 seconds so eventually i took it off for corrupt but i find someone and get looped for a long time. Most have deadhard or sprint burst. I tried to juggle but they just seem to pop gens so fast. Not really sure what to do. Contemplating giving up on killer as i dont enjoy any of the matches i play i just feel so outclassed against these survivors. Any tips? Its also incredibly hard to hear people for some reason.

Hello
Before we randomly start giving out advises, give us some more infos please
How long do you play dbd?
What Killers are you playing?
What are your prefered perks?
Where do you personally see the biggest problem?
Do you have a video that you can show us?
Kind regards

Try watching Otzdarva. He's a really good killer main and will explain his thought process. There are several others who are really solid killers as well. You can pick up alot from watching those guys.

Sound is bugged right now, which makes it very difficult to track survivors. What killer do you play?

What killer, build, playstyle, gaming device do u use?

Would recommend, very knowledgeable about the game and has taught me a lot even though I've been with the game much longer than him.

I can't seem to get past rank 8 so I don't think I have any productive tips for you. If I may ask, do you main a killer to get to red ranks or do you play multiple ones?
I do want to say I understand how you feel. Games feel like they go by too fast and I'm lucky if I get one kill. I can get most of them on the hook a couple times but by the time the last gen is done Adrenalin goes off and they all body block for their friends. Not saying that isn't allowed, its just what can I do lol?
If I do manage to get someone who is on death hook they DC before I can hook them.
Playing killer lately has been painful, especially with the amount of hate messages. I have never played a game where I get this many messages with such awful comments.
Thanks for creating this thread! Going to follow to see if I can learn a thing!

Don't be nice.

Just keep playing. I know that sounds unhelpful but that's all there is to it. The more you play the better you'll get.
Just keep in mind that there are people in the game who have a lot more hours than you, so naturally they're going to give you a hard time. Which is why building up experience for yourself is important.

IMO games on average are going faster because of the dark sense challenge. As others have said it's really killer dependent. If you get certain maps with certain killers the best you can hope for is a black pip.
The best piece of advice I can give, and you have probably heard this before, is to abandon chases that will take too long. You need to catch people out of position to have a chance, even with the best killers. If ruin is going down instantly try pop and thrilling tremors.
The best way to slow down a game is to find someone that is coming for an unhook and slug them. This is only really effective if you have an idea of where three or all four survivors are and it is extremely situational. Even if the slug has unbreakable, getting that third or even fourth person off of gens is really important in close games.
If you are willing to try something new, i'm finding that a well hidden devour hope slows down the game so much more than a well hidden ruin. Good survivors will power through ruin. If devour goes off with 2 or 3 gens left, everyone is looking for that totem. Obviously still sucks and leaves you with three perks if it's found instantly

Yeah, I'd reccomend watching streamers and learning things as they play. Certain tiles you can abuse your red light and walk certain ways to trick people into walking into you. Other tiles you just gotta hold forward and get the pallet gone ASAP. The game is all about juggling, so if you try to 1v1 every survivor, the other 3 are gonna fly through gens.

Probably been playing for 5 months or so. I play a lot of killers. Love Ghostface/Freddy. Ghostface i usually do the antihealing build. Freddy kinda whatever, Pop/Ruin/and whatever other perks. Id say biggest problem is any person i find they run right to a safe loop and i either entertain the loop or leave to find someone else and they do the same thing. Other problem is just trying to find these immersive people. But i cant seem to down people and stop gens from popping.

I do watch Otz and others like Tru3. But they usually make things seem so easy. I try to red glow trick people but they just run away from the loop mostly. Finding it hard to find people out of position.

Any killer but usually my favorite is Freddy and Ghostface.

I agree. But issue is i feel like i dont learn anything from my games it mostly feels out of my control.

Don't ever play nice. Tunnel the weakest link, the sooner you get someone out of the game, the better.

Yeah i gotta try to get that in killers but yeah having a tough time keeping gens from going super fast. While also chasing people. For every person i chase 3 more are on gens.

I think watching good killer streamers like otzdarva, tru3ta1ent, scottjund and marth would be good.
I would also recommend watching top tier survivors like no0b3, because you learn a lot about the usual behaviour of good survivors through that.

I agree with the juggling but its hard to juggle when the survivors can go from safe loop to safe loop.

In this game, you should always be more defensive as a killer than offensive. Unless you are like spirit / nurse / huntress / etc, good survivors will waste your time at safe pallets no matter what. Ideally you clear out a section of the map and then continue to chase through it. Going all over the map chase to chase is very risky because on maps like blood lodge you will never burn through all the pallets before the game is over.

Honestly, I think really good advice is try to be okay with losing.
And instead of always blaming the game, try and think what you could have done better in the match. Everyone makes plenty of mistakes but it's the people that can recognise and accept them that improve the most.

So i should just always be trying to defend gens and not chase survivors?

You take good chases, but don't chase into strong areas if the survivors seem to know what they are doing. Don't chase god windows without bamboozle ever. Defending gens and hooks is really good because after you kick the nearby 2-3 pallets you can start getting free hits in that area if you find people there again, and if someone is hooked there the survivors are forced to come.

Just keep watching and keep playing. I've found most any game you hit a wall for a while. Then you have that level up moment where you progress your skill. It just takes time. Keep at it and don't let things frustrate you.

I am okay with losing but when its every game and it is very hard to tell what i am doing wrong. The matches feel extremely unfair. Like i get 3 hooks and they finish all gens. I dont mind losing but this game isnt like other games where you can see how you missed shots or whatever.

Alright
- Do you know how to record a gameplay of yourself? If so, mind uploading it? This helps deftinitly the most.
- 5 months is not a lot of time, you probably need more experience to compete with red rank survivors. Dont stick your head in the sand, you will eventually get better, trust me. Its a process.
- I highly recommand Enduring and Spirit fury comination especially when u struggle at chases. Something like Pop, Ruin, Enduring, Spirit Fury. Whispers is another fantastic perk if you struggle finding survivors. But finding survivor is only experience, you simply dont know the maps that well yet. I had the same problem at the beginning.
- Use the Moonwalking technique at any time, try to get used to it. If you dont know what it is, its basicly walking backwards before getting to a corner where the survivor can see you . This wont show him the red gloom and its much more easy to catch survivors.
- Pressure is a key element in DBD. Therefore, when you see someone when u downed somebody else, its most all the time a good idea to just slug this person and go for the next one instantly.
- Genpressure is also very important, always use the middle of the map and not the outskirts to get gens very fast (not only at the beginning of a trial)
As i said, record some gameplay, post it here, and we can do way more for you.
Kind regards

Yeah I can understand that. Until you get more experienced it's much harder to tell what you did wrong in DBD compared to other games, there's a lot of subtle mistakes that are hard to notice; like chasing someone in a bad area, not switching targets at the correct time, not playing specific tiles correctly, recognising safe/unsafe pallets etc.
There's no instant answer to getting good, playing and learning from your own experiences as well as watching good killer players is the only way really. Practice makes perfect.

Brutal strength might be an option to to the survs that try to be arrogant and stand at the loop after the pallet is down instead of using time wisely
