As The First Rift Battlepass Comes To An End The Verdict Is In...

The Rift Battlepass is a helluva deal! For 10 dollars you get the following:

10 dollars in virtual currency refunded

28 Charms

Nurse- Full Outfit

Trapper- Full Outfit

Hillbilly- Full Outfit

Wraith- Full Outfit

Huntress- Head + Weapon

Hag- Body + Weapon

Jake- Full Outfit

Claudette- Full Outfit

Dwight- Full Outfit

Meg- Head + Shirt

Dave- Shirt + Pants

Nea- Head

None of this is really news but as I'm approaching tier 70 I'm sure many others are as well. While I can't speak for everyone I didn't feel like the grind was excessive at all. Even if someone plays super casual and only got half that stuff for making it halfway through the rift I would call that a pretty amazing deal. It's such a good deal that I almost feel guilty for being able to do the next battlepass for free =p

For 10 dollars you get around 20 dollars worth of cosmetics

    That is worth it

Especially nice when you consider you can just reuse the same currency NEXT rift if you managed to collect it all.

I personally used the 1000 cells from the pass to simply progress tiers lol

same, getting 5 times (or 10 if you count the survvior one and the killer one) the same charm (that doesn't even looks good imo) is just sad, on the other hand, I reach tier 70 in a few days so I got all my cells back + everything from the rift, what more could I ask for?

If you were to buy all those cosmetics it would be closer to 70 dollars.

Still weirds me out how some don't get 3 pieces of 1 outfit.

The story elements aren't paid content. Everyone gets those. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of them either. Their okay I guess. I would just prefer the resources were used toward something else like alternate game modes.

i got Demogorgon + Ghost face outfit with the refunded cells; i didn't buy it until i reached the tier i wanted though (hag body).. might do the same thing next time if there's something worth aiming for and they guarantee unlock the tier rewards you've already passed.

i'm still bitter about the Hag not having a headpiece, the only existing one I think fits with the Bile outfit is the Snake Charmer head

Meg gets a full outfit as well, I think she gets purple jeans.

Also I could've sworn Nea gets a shirt under the free items of the rift.

It was worth it, but they should really make it less grindy. Maybe making it so you can have more than one challenge active at a time. Casual players and those who get the pass late don't have nearly enough time to get through the whole thing.

    ZupBear Member Posts: 15

A lot of the outfits can be bought separately outside of the rift. If you've already purchased an item do you get nothing? Because in that case it may not be worth it, otherwise I think it's a pretty good deal.

I saw some that said "available in ___ outfit" so I just assumed, but possibly not, I haven't actually checked tbh.

I like her rift outfit a lot though. I don’t have Hag cosmetics but the P3 head looks good to me.

Honestly, I liked some of the cosmetics. For the price with some grinding (or putting in a lot of money to get it all. We all know who you are) is alright. I don't know if I would've used any money to get more auric cells to boost the progression seeing as I play the game quite a bit. The last charm they give was pretty nice.

Honestly it's just too much grinding for me. I like the whole rewards system It has and I do appreciate Behavior tried to be unique, the problem for me is

The entire game is set around a never ending grind from unlocking perks, items, add-ons for over 30 characters. I already have enough stuff to grind already

If they lowered the nature of a lot of these rifts, particularly ones that involve silly levels of RNG in a PVP game, only then will I buy one

Just remember that some of thoose skins are reskins, that could be sold as shard cosmetics, but overall it's kinda worth it if you want the cosmetics, I am really happy with jake and nurse cosmetics

Total play time or just since the rift started? Because that doesn't seem possible. It takes 800 seconds (13 minutes) of in game time for each Rift Fragment. It takes 10 Rift Fragments per Rift Tier (133 minutes). 70 tiers x 133 minutes = 9310 minutes or 155 hours. This is assuming you don't do a single challenge.

They shouldn't have added so many charms, I think they were honestly introduced just to make the grind longer. Did they ever say why the charms were introduced in the game anyways? Hopefully next rift all charms are only on the free rift and not premium, but I doubt they'll do that.

He means that some of them are recolors, not original cosmetics.

Worth it money wise? Definitely. Time wise? No.

I didn’t have enough time to even get halfway through the rift even with about 3-4 hours a day. That’s not a lot especially with queue times being hell on console. I hope they do something about the grind for the next rift :/

  • Dreamnomad
    Dreamnomad Member Posts: 3,931

Let's all be honest here. The charms were just added as low cost filler material. They are just like the weapon charms in Call of Duty. Cheap gimmicky stuff as a psuedo prize. I'm not even mad about it. It makes sense. They still want cosmetics to have high value. So if there was less tiers then it would have to take much longer per tier. I like to feel like I'm making actual progress toward a goal. So I'm fine with some boobie prizes to make the treadmill feel like it is moving faster.

Only ones I'll use is Claudette's new hair (although it looks like half of her face has wicked sideburns from the dangling bit in front of her ear) and the 2 Hag pieces (oddly without a head piece). Maybe the Wraith set a bit. Didn't really get much from it, and even the pieces I'd use aren't pieces I would've purchased. Only charms I use are the high-visibility killer charms to make hooks easier to spot if needed; can't find a reason to make myself stand out more on survivor. Definitely felt grindy, made worse by Nov-Dec being pure insanity at work and could only play 1-2 hours every other night or so.

Maybe I'll have more time in this upcoming Tome and cosmetics will be available for characters I actually use. Just depends on whether you use any characters with cosmetics available as to whether it's worth it or not, I guess. Hoping for less RNG-based challenges; would certainly help the grind feel less frustrating. Definitely won't jump and buy it right off the bat this time, though.

Yes. From the time the Rift started to now. That is the maximum total time. According to my Xbox stats, of course. That means that there is likely time out of matches and sitting in menu's as well.

For the record, the Rift cosmetics aren't available in the Store, and won't be for at least another 6 months. The "Available in X Outfit" thing just means that they are part of a set (with other Rift cosmetics) and not a standalone piece. However, some of the cosmetics in the Rift (such as the Huntress' cat mask, for example) are recolours of items currently available in the Store.

This verdict depends on if an individual has the time to grind the extra shards that aren't available through the archives.

Add to that the possibility that an individual might not have the skill or resources to complete the challenges for one of the two roles.

As an example, all of my survivors are at level 1 because I really dislike the role. As an additional side effect I can't even attempt some of the challenges because I don't have the perks unlocked or items available on those characters.

I have level 48 or so unlocked so the rift as a whole is a waste. Half of the cosmetics available are a waste since I don't play survivor and the charms are barely worth being available in the rift at all.

Overall, the value is dependent on the individual.

I didn't buy this one, I probably won't buy the next since it will probably be practically identical to this one.

No way for a single role to complete the challenges, recolored charms, no choice in cosmetics for one role or another and a time limit that isn't designed for casual play even though the devs tout that the balance is meant for casual players.

I would have liked the blight currency system be extended to other cosmetics within the battlepass.

You work through the battlepass and earn a currency, then use that currency to purchase a cosmetic specific to that battlepass. Free players could get what we want, and premium payers would get access to all of it. But killer mains wouldn't be stuck with survivor cosmetics and vice versa.

Then just take care of the problem of forcing players to play both roles and allow the players to choose which role they want to complete the challenges with.

    /rant

I can never seem to just talk about the topic...

    Fibijean Member Posts: 8,342

Just for the record, because I see people claiming this a lot, I don't believe the devs ever said that the Rift was intended for casual players. They said it was designed to be completable by the average player, which is not the same thing. The definition of casual players could be extended to include basically everyone who plays the game, but "completable by the average player" means that only around half of the playerbase are likely to complete it.

Dude, I'm as critical of BVHR as anyone. Maybe more so. But I do try to be fair too. In this case they did a lot more right than they did wrong. I think people are overstating the grind necessary to make it through the rift. It take effort to be sure. But I work full time, go to school and I have a family but I was still able to make it through. It's very doable. There are still even 15 days to spare.

  • anarchy753
    anarchy753 Member Posts: 4,212

    Small correction, that's 22 charms.

The recolours should absolutely not be praised as content, when they're so incredibly similar that nobody could possibly tell the difference, nor their individual rarity by looking at them.

I'm being generous here and including one of each of the brown ones, and the red ones.

I was willing to buy the pass if I completed it. I'm at level 52 after 140 hours and the first 3 archives complete. I work full time and playing the game like a part time job for cosmetics I'll never use burned me out. So I just bought a new game (gta 5 on sale for the same price as the pass)

Therefore, the developer's definition of average is, as stated, 1 hour of gameplay every day.

Since there are 70 days in each Rift, it shouldn't take no more than 70 hours to complete The Rift.

If one hour per day of gameplay isn't enough, which is a problem because they are balancing around that number, then changes are necessary.

Of course, there are many variables to consider, but ultimately, they can view hidden stats and make changes where they see fit. 😁🤗

I don't really have a problem with the Rift because I can spend a ton of time on it, but others who don't have my amount of time can struggle a lot.

I know that the 70-80 hour estimate was probably off, I'm not arguing that point. The point I was trying to make is that I see a lot of people talking about how the devs promised that the Rift would be completable for casual players, that is to say, pretty much anyone, when that's not what they actually said. The Rift should be completable for an average player, not necessarily a casual one.

Whether or not it hit that goal is debatable, and something we'll find out for sure when the Rift ends, but it's beside the point in this case. I just get tired of seeing people repeating their own interpretation of something the developers said as though it's what they actually said, and then drawing conclusions on that basis. If we're going to draw conclusions, they should be accurate to the evidence presented.

  • NMCKE
    NMCKE Member Posts: 8,243

I definitely agree, when you say their's difference between casual and average players. However, I feel like that's not the problem in my opinion because everyone already knew what the developer's goal was for the Rift (which is a hour of play time per day).

Depending on the type of player you are and your preference, an hour of play time can be seen as average or casual. My theory is, based on forum experience, the majority of the community put a lot of time into Dead by Daylight. Therefore, the community sees a hour of play time as casual. 😁

  • Fibijean
    Fibijean Member Posts: 8,342

Sure, my point is it's about representing what the devs said fairly. The devs did say that their goal was that the Rift should be completable with an hour of playtime per day. If we want to criticise them on that basis, that's fair enough. They did not say the Rift should be completable by casual players, many people just inferred that from the former statement. So we shouldn't criticise them saying "they said casual players should be able to complete it" when they didn't.

It's dangerous for people to be repeating their own inferences as though that's what was actually said, because it's distorting and misrepresenting the facts, especially with something like "casual" that obviously has a very broad definition. That's why I try to be very careful about doing that myself, and correct it when I do see it, because that's how things like "the devs are liars, they promised this" often start.

If you go with their prices of 4 dollars for some pants sure....

@ OP idk what you do for a living or how your social live is but it was an INSANE grind tbh, just insane, it has to be halved at LEAST.

  • Chocolate_Cosmos
    Chocolate_Cosmos Member Posts: 5,735

Worth it in price of items but you pay a lot in time.

Also it feels like more than half of the rewards that you get are just recollers (Charms, outfits)

  • fcc2014
    fcc2014 Member Posts: 4,388

The grind is a bit much, the challenges increased toxic game play from both sides, the items don't even stay exclusive they will all be for sale at some point, the charms are out of place and mostly lazy reskins. The perception that you get 1,000 shards back is wrong since you already had to buy 1,000 shards to get the pass. BHVR got your money and is only refunding currency to spend more in game.

    Meh,

Wathever; luckily you get the auric cells back so its no big deal but charms are so ######### its hilarious

  • Dreamnomad
    Dreamnomad Member Posts: 3,931

It's true that you can't trade auric cells for real world currency. But it's also true that your auric cells are refunded if you make it through the majority of the rift. As long as they don't change that in future rifts it is theoretically possible to purchase the premium pass on all future rifts with the same original 10 dollar investment. Personally, I felt the premium pass was worth 10 dollars even if it wasn't refunded. So the fact that I will get a minimum of 2 premium rift passes for 10 dollars is crazy good.
