New player.
Just tried the tutorial for the first time as a new player. Smooth controls for the most part. For ME it seems the thing I need to practice most will be using the camera as a survivor effectively. Wow - is it tricky at first. Running straight ahead while then trying to look behind with the camera without missing a beat will take some time..lol. The smooth switch from W-S e.t.c.
Looking forward to playing more often. Just a noob (potato) saying 'hello'. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the game (and the forum)! I hope you enjoy yourself π
As with any community, you may encounter a fair bit of negativity, but don't let that get you down. DBD may have its flaws, but at the end of the day we're all here because we love the game.
We have a section on the forums containing player-made guides to the game, many of which are specifically for new players (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/gameplay-guides). The pinned guides at the top are the winners of the Beginners' Guide Contest which was held a few months ago (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/87026/community-beginners-guide-contest-winners#latest).
You can also find plenty of guides on YouTube both for getting started and for mastering more advanced mechanics.
If you have any questions about the game or need advice, feel free to drop by the Ask The Community section of the forums (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/ask-a-question) where you'll find lots of experienced players who are happy to help.
The official wiki is also a great resource for in-depth and accurate information about pretty much any feature of the game, from perks to killer powers to lore (https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Dead_by_Daylight_Wiki).
Finally, if you're looking for people to play with, we have a Looking For Players section on the forum which is categorised by platform (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/looking-for-players).

Another worthy sacrifice for the Entity!!! πππ

Honestly I play survivor with a ps4 controller and killer with KB/M. To me 3rd person camera control, hitting skill checks, and having to mash to struggle are just soooo much easier on controller. If you have any console experience you should give it a try.

Hello and welcome to DBD! Just let you know that the matchmaking suck at the moment. It's really bad for new players. If u r rank 20 killer probably you will play with rank 8's or red ranks. Don't ever bother to kill on your first games. Learn how to hit, learn the maps, where the scratch marks leading. Have fun and Happy holidays!

Your skin doesn't even need to be that thick, it's just everyone else has no skin at all.

You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Just don't feel discouraged by the occasional toxicity on this lovely game :)

Welcome to DBD.
Have fun but be aware that some of the folk that play the game can be very toxic.
See you in the Fog.
