Trapper is a strong killer, change my mind
Trapper isn't on the top 3 and can be described by many a really weak killer. I believe he is insanely strong tho.
He has the ability to block infinites, if disarmed he know the survivors locations, he has a stun, and he can punish survivors mistakes.
Add-ons also make him insanely strong. He can darken his traps, he can instadown if a survivor rescues himself and he can injure survivors if they decide to disarm his traps.
I believe that the Trapper is just....underated. I understand that he can't end chases quickly and he doesn't have insane map pressure, but I believe he is at least b tier in my book.

Trapper is good for creating paranoia in a match. But a strong killer he definitely is not.
Too much prep time. All that fetching, carrying and setting of traps is tedious. Easy to get spotted setting traps. Cautious survivors often won't step in them.

It takes too much time to set up the traps. If Tapper is up against good survivors, then by the time he has prepaired the field, the match is pretty much over.
Yes, he can close close loops with his traps while in a chase. But the survivor only has to run to the next looping spot. Also SWF hurts him more than other killers.
Iridescent Stone is a great add-on for him because it saves a lot of time, and if you don't have one thing as a killer, it's time.

Here's 3 decent examples of strong killers over DBD's life period
1. Pre-nerf Nurse with double range add-ons.
2. Old Legion with Franks mixtape.
3. Wraith with a bell add-on and windstorm.

Trapper is a snowball killer, once he get's going and you have to save a teammate or do gens in a minefield of traps he's very strong

Trapper is only good with addons. Bag + bloody coil usually works well for me, I hate survivors messing with my traps. And secretly I hope someone will disarm a trap, get injured, then spend 30 seconds self caring while I reset the trap lol.

Trapper can be good against low to average players but anyone with a glint of skill can pop 3 gens by the time you have set up a "trap zone". After you have trapped a spot its not difficult to avoid tall grass or be mindful of popular trap spots. I know I tend to either focus gens (if my team isn't) or I will hunt all the trap spot near loops as my team does gens.
Then you have SWF teams who can easily coordinate trap removal/inform the team of trap locations.
Trapper has potential even against really skilled players if you are able to be very unpredictable in your placement but more likely than not someone will see you set the trap up.

He waited to drop the pallet and got slapped. Frankly this shows the reason comms and swf are so powerful rather than trapper being not good, almsot any killer would suck with these people against 'im. Not saying THIS trapper was good but yeah, you all see what i mean

Tho I can say that the player could be bad and not the trapper as a character. But who am I to judge? I suck a lot against swf

They did 100 games without coms too. You could narrow it down to four survivors knowing what to do. SWF or match making RNG.
And yeah, any killer stands little chance against this.

I think he is one of the three worst killers in the game, but based on how I perform with him. Every killer can be mastered and really strong in the right hands. But even as survivor Trapper does not do very well against me compared to most other killers.

this is my honest opinion as a Trapper main:
the more players THINK he is a bad killer, the better he actually is.
if Trapper were to become a usual sight in games, trap paranoia would screw him over massively, as many players would be aware of the good trap spots and those would be checked more regulary.
but yeah, i agree that he is very underrated. he is a very strong killer, if played right - but he can just as easily be a very unviable killer, if played wrong.
i would still say he needs some improvements though.
as many have already said, the time to set your traps is too much, therefore gens get done in that time. on top of that, he has some mechanisms that imo are very unnecessarily restraining his potential power.
here a list of changes i'd give him to make him better:
- start with all (6) traps in hand and be able to always carry all of them. (bag add ons would just increase the amount of traps in the trial to a maximum of 9. stitched bag would need to give something extra though (idk maybe faster setting speed or something?), so it is different to the trapper bag). this would allow for a much faster setup and fight the problem he currently has where gens get popped before you could even place 4 traps.
- remove the trap deadzones around hooks and other traps. instead, give the freshly unhooked survivor a very short invulnerability to traps on the ground (like the invincibility frames he has) to prevent them from getting trapped immediately after being unhooked before they have a chance to avoid it (this will also be given to the killer uppon stepping on his own trap, to avoid scenarios like the bug that is currently going on where you will be stuck in 2 traps forever). ever since the multidirectional unhook ha become a thing, these deadzones have become very unnecessary tbh. all they do now is block potantial trap spots at loops, which just makes life unnecessarily hard for Trappers. also, give me one good reason why i am only allowed to place a trap at least 5m away from another one. this is a very unnecessary trap deadzone, if you ask me.
- make escaping a trap an action with a set time. this time can be increased when someone helps you, though it should be decently long. i'd say escaping a trap should be 15 seconds on your own and 5 with a friend helping you. (add ons that decrease the chance of a trap escape would now increase the time it takes to get out of the trap). cause trap escapes on the first attempt suck.

It's a fact Ruin does nearly nothing against good survivors. You can use it if you want to play at easy mode on low ranks if you want though.

It's not a proven fact, trust me I've tried it all, certain killers need that extra time at the beginning of the round to not get gen rushed into an unwinnable situation. Players that say ruin is crap are idiots I'm sorry. Even if it gets found within a minute that's a ton of wasted time in this game. Trapper also has the benefit of being able to trap his ruin if it's in a good spot, can end the game right there

Me against a trapper: searches grass slowly to disarm trap. stop right at edge of grass since there isn't one. start running directly into trap.
another example: checks around shack for ruin without knowing it's trapper at this point, vaults window right into the cliche trap.

Still adds 1.6 seconds for every skill check they get compared to a not hexed skill check cutting out 2% generator progress... Which is almost nothing considering you get maybe 7 skill checks on a generator from 0-100.

Ruin is one of those weird perks. It's not as good as people who thinks it's good and not as bad as people that think it's bad. I have gotten pretty decent at skill checks but I still bring detectives just because I don't know how my other 3 teammates are going to fair. At best it's slowing them down, at worst it's made me waste a perk slot.

There is a very common misconception that you MUST set down traps for 2 minutes before starting a chase. Setting down 2-3 traps is enough before you start to pressure gens. And those gens must be one's near where your trapping. You can slowly get more traps on one side of the map. As long as you prioritize the generators near your traps, you'll have a 3 gen if it gets that far if nothing else.

i personally prefer Corrupt Intervention to slow the game down, though i see where you are comming from.
the totem that needs to be defended could easily lure them into your setup, if done right, so he is like one of the very few killers that can actually use totem perks to their full potential.

If he had the brown bag addon built into his kit innately I already think he'd jump up quite a few positions. If I wanted to play fetch quests I'd go play WoW. Roaming around for traps sucks ass when he plays three gen/half map strategies really well.

Trapper is very bad without his best add-ons, he loses a lot of time for a power that is very easily countered.

He's my favorite killer. I don't even use ruin on him and have been performing quite well versing red ranks on PS4. Yes, survivors will do the first two gens easily, but then they always 3 gen themselves. Once they start landing on a trap area, it's basically over. Then it's just adding pressure on the last gens.
