Some other kind of detection item I'm ignorant of?
Once in a while (thankfully not always), I'd face up a killer who'd on match start run right up to the edge of the map exactly for the obstacle I was hiding behind. There's nothing of importance nearby; no generator; no lit totem. I wasn't running and dumping a messy trail behind me. They don't go searching various obstacles along the way, just straight for the one I'm behind, already hiding long before killer was even visible or TR heard.
And they're not equipped with whispers; nor armed with radar add-ons. Neither was I using any location offerings.
I cannot prove it, but the behaviour seems way beyond coincidental. Has anybody else encountered such suspicious activities? Or are some killers conditioned to first "sweep the perimeter" right at the opposite end?

Could just be that whispers turned on and that was the first spot they checked...or of course scratched mirror myers, lol. Also gotta be careful about crows, because some killers REALLY notice those things.

Was a survivor next to you they might have the oOo aura and assumed it was you. If not then probably just bad luck

I already stated they're NOT using whispers. I use whispers myself and it's helpful, so it always surprises me when I discover they didn't use that perk. And no, I'm not talking about SM Myers either; I've tried that build too when I have the available tools.

Had to reread the post, missed that part...so...crows?

Perhaps they had spies from the shadows no one really suspects that perk

Not that I've noticed. I started alone in those cases.

There's a lot of times where people think they're sneaky but aren't.
Often I'll see a survivor from a distance, and approach in a way where I can see both sides of the tile between us, then when they hear me approaching and think I haven't had line of sight yet, I know they're basically somewhere ahead of me as they haven't run to the left or right.
Other survivors sometimes run and you don't see them, so a different player's scratch marks may lead the killer to where you are.
I find many survivors don't hide very well, especially items like medkits are very noticeable sticking out the side of an object like a tree.
Also if you move even slightly there can be grass movement noises, if nothing else is going on it's very easy for the killer to see and realise where you are. Some breathing can be heard but that's sketchy at best with how sound is at the moment.
Beyond that, you're just unlucky.

I agree crows can be an indicator. I don't directly remember buzzing off crows because they do make noises, but I could've been too focused on TR and failed to register other sounds. I shall take note.
