That was just one possible idea that has been mentioned, and it's unlikely to be the final version.0

Honestly I'm confused why they didn't just go with the closing the hatch powers the exit idea.
It would make perks like remember me and wake up a lot more viable.0 -
But you still wouldn't be able escape as the survivor.
Killer closes the hatch. Now all he has to do is patrol the 2 doors. If killer has remember me its impossible.1 -

I don't know if viable is the word I'd use. If you've already killed three people without them, you're already set and you've already won. Those perks would just be the icing on the cake the majority of the time, giving you another easy kill at the end. But they aren't really making the difference between a win and a loss.
The hatch changes didn't go through because they were just super awkward, and all it ended up doing was transferring the hatch standoff into a gate standoff. In the event the gates spawned far apart, it would help, but if they were close, it would just be a stalemate where the survivor would have zero chance of actually opening the gate, so they would just hide and wait for their opportunity that would never come.
It's back to the drawing board. Not forgotten by any means, but it wasn't ready to be released into the live build.
