The Thing That Really Gets Me About the Designer Note Wording...

When Nurse mains said (and have continued saying) that Nurse feels unfun and stressful to play after her nerf, the general official response is "fun is subjective, and she's still effective." Which...as someone who's argued about Nurse's nerf since it happened, I completely agree with the second point on principle. I can 4k with her still. I just need to put the game away after doing it because of how not fun it was to do.

The first part of the response is also true: Fun is subjective. But the designer notes are full of "unfun for survivors"...which...if fun is subjective, why is that now an ok reason to be nerfing things? I had fun versing old Nurse, I could run her better than any other killer since I can't loop. New Nurse is so asthmatic and easy to juke I don't have fun playing against her anymore either. But fun is subjective, so my personal opinion doesn't matter. Except now we're being told the motivation behind Doctor's rework was to make him more fun to play against *without a single mention of making him more fun to play as*...and Ruin is being completely removed from red rank games to make it more fun for new survivors.

I'm not here to argue what was justified and what wasn't. I'm just here to say I dislike the inconsistency in response. It furthers my belief that there's two balance teams at BHVR. One who tries to make things more competitive, and one who tries to make the game's barrier of entry as low as possible. Neither team is bad if you use those terms. The issue being we haven't seen too much of the first group lately (since the Freddy rework), and it's really starting to hurt the vets. Either fun is a balancing consideration or it isn't, the flip flopping really feels underhanded.
