What should I do to take him out of my house? I have a cat and I'll leave him sleep here tonight but, he is not the kinda of cat that chases rats, he already killed a small snake but never a rat.

You could always try trapping it. I’m assuming you don’t have a mousetrap, so make a box trap.

    • Choose a place along a wall, not in the middle of a room. He mostly likely to seek out the kitchen for crumbs.
    • Find a relatively heavy box that the rat can’t move from inside.
    • Prop one end up on a stick, high enough so he can walk inside.
    • Tie a string to the very top of the stick. Secure the other end of the string to the far side of the box, at the bottom. You want the string tight when the box is propped up.
    • Stick some food to the string, kinda high up near the stick. Mashing a small ball of cheese/bread/meat around the string should work nicely.
    • The food should be over the rat’s head. The only way to reach it is to enter the box and reach up for it. He will grab the string near the food which pulls the top of the stick. This will pull the whole contraption off balance. The box falls and he is trapped. (By the way, make sure the stick is flat enough that it doesn’t leave a big gap if it’s laying under the edge of the box after collapse. A ruler should work.) Also make sure it doesn’t catch on any nooks inside the box when it should be sliding.
    • The rest is up to you. Slide something stiff and flat under the box so you can seal it off and flip it over. Personally, I’d take the box for a walk to a nearby creek or park and let him go, but again, it’s up to you how you handle your little captive.

In my country we don't use mousetraps. Also I don't think that I have anything to trap him or at least a stick that must help.

    Assemble your Soldiers:

    1. 5 Gallon Bucket
    2. Dowel – metal is best but wood will work (try a metal clothes hanger)
    3. Tin can (pop can works fine)
    4. Peanut butter
    5. Scrap of wood for ramp

    The Process:

    1. Drill holes at the top of the bucket, on 2 opposite sides
    2. Drill holes in the middle of each flat side of a soda can
    3. Insert a dowel through the bucket holes and the soda can holes, to end up with a unit that looks like the image.
    4. Bait with peanut butter and add a ramp for the mice to get up.
    5. Fill the bottom few inches with water if you plan to kill the mice, or leave it if you want to release them somewhere or feed them live to your snake!

    Bucket Rat Trap

What works for mice also works for rats, but rats can escape from a 5 gallon bucket so use a 55 gallon drum instead. For a drowning trap use at least 6 inches of water in the bottom.

    Antifreeze

Just cut a small hole in the side of a plastic 2 liter pop bottle, about the right size for a mouse or rat to enter, and then put a little antifreeze in the bottom of the bottle. Rodents are drawn by the sweet smell and it will kill them when they drink it.
