An OPTION to DISABLE AUTOAIM (Not Clickbait)
Could you please add an option to switch aim assist off in the settings? I understand it can be cool on consoles, bu using it on PC doesn't feel ok...
It may be a mental thing l, but ever since I heard that there is aim assist, I cant sleep at night and I can fell my IQ going down every time I play.
No, but seriously, every time I hit a survivior, I feel bad for myself because I cheat and for surviviors because they get hit.
If the conspiracy theory that says "aim assist doesn't exist" is true, then please let us switch off the "camera move to hide lag" too, hiding server issues under it is not a fair move.
But I don't believe in conspiracy theories, so I believe that Devs will listen.

The devs said there is no auto aim and that it’s just “enhanced animation”

This is what I meant by the "conspiracy theory" thing...
Never seen any actual proof devs said that, most were some reddit rants, if you have one (proof, not reddit rant), then I will gladly take it

The Devs sure like to name these 'features'. Personally, when the camera literally follows the survivor as you swing, I like to call it auto-aim. I play on console and it's so damn annoying when it does it because it messes up the view. Would be nice to have the choice to turn it off.

It is the case. To explain:
Auto aim gives you a hit you otherwise would not have gotten.
What happens in DBD is that the game recognizes that you've gotten a hit by checking a cone shaped area in front of you for survivors, then pulls you towards them to make it look like you'd expect (so your weapon actually makes contact). It will not give you a hit unless you actually aimed at them. Basically it dresses it up after the fact.
That's not to say that it can't cause a hit that should have connected to miss- I'm not trying to convince you that it doesn't happen- but it's not "auto aim" or "aim assist".
EDIT: Just noticed the other part of the question.
It is not there to hide lag. To hide lag, you would have to predict their movement and move the killer on their screen in advance. This is not the case. If there's a lot of latency between you two, the killer will appear to miss wildly regardless. As the killer, you have the authority over hits. It's not compensating to help you out. What you see is what you get. It's purely just to make your hits more visually appealing.
17 -
Yeah, but there are basically 2 explanations:
- Camera follows BEFORE the hit (so its autoaim)
- Camera follows AFTER the hit, to make it look better (so its trying to hide lag)
6 -
Hmmm not sure if I get how it works, but certainly it impares your judgement of "how close" the original hit was, so you cannot see if the hitbox is bugged or if there was a lag.
So thats why I would want an option to disable it, if it can make you miss a hit then even more so.
I am aware that it could make hits look wierder, because, If I understand correctly, "attack hitbox" is bigger than it looks like, thats why the "animation enhancement" is there to make it look more realistic. I know this is not a competitive game, so I have no complaint about it being base feature, but there are players who like to take it more seriously, and I would like you to allow them for that. I believe it wouldnt affect the game in a significant way if a few players would play without this feature.
1 -
I may be wrong, but I think that its the "control" that makes Billys and Onis "flicks" so satisfying and popular, similiar to Huntress Hatchets and Nurses blinks

I mean it dosnt even work half of the time so i would love that

@Peanits The problem is that the system causes people to miss their hits sometimes. If you try to hit someone around a tight corner or through a vault, it sometimes adjusts you to aim at the wall and therefore you actually end up missing. That's why people have issues with it.
24 -
In this Patch:
The hits in this game are widely, seemingly. unfair. I vault a window at any given time and despite clearing the window, with the camera pointing backwards and visually see that I cleared the window, plus the length of the weapon and still see what appears to be a clear miss. Is instead recognized as a "hit".
Same is occurring on pallets. I clear the pallet and drop it. Despite dropping the pallet, the killer has still struck my character.
- Average latency to server: 63ms
- Connection type: Wired Cat 6e
- GPU: RTX 2060 on Desktop.
- 16GB of RAM

It is not just an animation after dedicated servers got introduced.
With introduction of dedicated servers situation when game autoaims you into a survivor without you actually hitting him happens quite often. It's most commonly seen during survivor animations for example survivor run behind the corner or vaulted the window. Autoaim tracks him on the other side of the window essentially robbing the hit from the killer(as killer then hits the wall directly in front of him) which feels very artificial.
Other time is when survivor/server has slight delay and survivor 360'ing literally teleports. During these times killer can autoaim and actually track survivor spinning in front of him with his camera(as if locked to look straight at him) without hit actually landing.
6 -
This is probably server issue and I dont think "animation enhancement" has much to do with it. But well, the "animation enhancement" can cloud the judgement in such situation, because you cant actually see how "close" the hit was, because every hit looks like a perfect hit...
1 -
Of course. I'm not trying to convince you otherwise. I actually addressed it with this line: "That's not to say that it can't cause a hit that should have connected to miss- I'm not trying to convince you that it doesn't happen- but it's not "auto aim" or "aim assist"."
It's just an explanation of how it works.
3 -
This!
I don’t know what you want to call it if not aim assist/auto aim, but before the swing it 100% yanks the camera towards the survivors centre mass, and if they are slightly moving the camera will ‘bounce’ off and to the opposite side to where you started aiming and the hit will whiff.
I’m on PS4 and whatever this system is, it is more of a hinderance and I wish I could disable it.
It can’t be anything to do with dedicated servers as it has been a problem for an extremely long time.
6 -
Oh I'm dumb and missed that, sorry, and thanks!
1 -
This is a fair point.
Even though it is not autoaim, server lag can make the "hit detection cone" bugged, and make a hit that should not happen, because the final hit detection happens AFTER the "animation enchancement" alters the camera movement. So basically it can hit by an accident the same way it can miss. This is still not autoaim, because its a bug, but player could avoid doing that if he had control.

This "ability to miss hits" is the reason we want an option to disable it. This system clearly has problem with surviviors doing rapid turns, and no matter how much effort you will put into improving it, the system will never be perfect. This is why some people want to have complete control over the hit process.
There may be not much difference or even none at all, but as long as this system exists, there will be people noticing it and complaining about "bad autoaim making them miss hits", some people are just annoyed by this, even if it doesnt do much.
Idk, maybe Im just oversensitive xD
But it looks like there are more people who feel like that, it might be worth looking into, hitting surviviors doing "360s" feels weird for sure.

Can you elaborate a bit on your previous explanation?
I mean, you said that there is a collider/trigger cone in front of the killer, and if it hits a survivor, then the camera turns accordingly, correct?
Then you say that this doesn't mean that this doesn't lead to missed hits that shouldn't have been a miss, which I think it would be fair to translate to: sometimes the camera-correction (erroneously called auto-aim) mechanic makes the killer miss a strike even if aimed correctly. Again, am I correct?
Assuming those two previous statements are correct, then is it fair to say that camera-correction doesn't ever help a killer (hence: not an auto-aim/aim-assist), but it can hinder them at times, making them miss?
If that is the case: what is the purpose of the camera-correction?
5 -
Aim Assist as people call it always was a thing when killers power or swings autoaimed on survivor that has a haste effect active.
I honestly see no reason why billys chainsaw cannot hit a survivor that is running slower then billy in a straight line even if killer is faster.
1 -
To be entirely fair. I bet we would miss a lot more if it wasn't around - compared to how often it makes us miss attacks.

I made a thread asking is doing a 360 an exploit being it a mechanic that is being challenged by different camera functions. Survivors have better camera use on purpose which is fine. I think juking is a legit chase move and a 360 is the same but the camera makes it problematic.
4 -
This is my favorite example of this, though I'm not sure if it's auto aim:
Sprint Burst movement speed: 150%
The Pig's Ambush movement speed: 160%
You begin an Ambush attack towards a survivor, and they use the perk Sprint Burst. Even though you should catch up to them and be able to hit them (160% > 150%), your Ambush attack will be forced to end early and the survivor will get away unharmed.
7 -
Not true. There are tons of games without such feature and there is no issue.
Even if its true, I'd rather miss because of my mistake than because of bug/lag
3 -
This BS is here since forever. Sprint Burst is capable of "canceling" killer's attack and makes land hits miss.
2 -
Whatever you call it, I think most of us would like for it to be revisited to account for trees and obstacles. It feels bad to miss an otherwise guaranteed hit because of something that theoretically should make the game function better.

"I do believe the Devs will listen"
LOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL

You can turn it off go to ingame files and go to game user setting and you type false for it off.
0 -
Wow, that would be amazing if its true, could you elaborate on that?
So I go to SteamLibrary=> Common=> DeadbyDaylight or whatever=> user/game settings and then edit the file? Or is it located in the saves folder instead? And how do I know which line to edit? Is there going to be line like: AUTO_AIM=true somewhere?
Did you test if it really works? We all know DbD is pretty wild about verifying its local files

For PC, what about consoles?
1 -
Yeah, they should consider console players too.
And its not clear how can you disable it even on PC because @wispy6 did not explain it completly.
@Peanits, do you have any knowledge of that? If it really can be disabled in game files then adding an option in the settings would be almost no work, right?
0 -
I wasn't implying that you weren't considering consoles players in your post. I was stating that @wispy6 posts only works for PC players. So them saying there was an option by changing some file's code isn't available for console players.

I wish you luck getting constantly 360'd lol
0 -
360s is where it works the worst lol
0 -
Or at least give us an option do disable it? This is getting ridiculous.

This content has been removed.

No, they say there's no auto aim, the camera just moves to make the hit look smoother. Which clearly isn't true considering the camera still snaps causing you to miss
4 -
They have a funny definition of "smoother"
0 -
Yeah, I do that all the time. It's clear there's auto aim, look how hard the killer tries to hit someone that's above them. I don't understand why the devs don't just admit it, and at least give us an option to disable it
2 -
I don't know if it works, but there's an option named auto-aim in the config of the game in the %appdata%.
C:\Users\youruser\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor and open the GameUserSettings.ini, in the [/Script/DeadByDaylight.DBDGameUserSettings], in the bottom there's the option called AimAssist, mine is already false but I don't remember if it works because I don't play killer an long time, maybe give it a try.

Ok, soooo I opened the GameUserSettings....
And the "AimAssist=" was "false" already...
Looks like we got Bamboozled
If this is with AimAssist disabled, then what happens if you enable it?
At least now we know why devs dont like when we call their "Animation Enhancement" "Aim Assist", its because these are two different things...
0 -
I guess ppl just call it "auto aim" since we have no other name for it :D. Idk if anyone mentioned that before but the "auto aim" is especially worse on Legion FF and it would be very nice if it is possible to adjust something about that. I can't count anymore how often I hit a object or corner next to a survivor.
3 -
Today I had the same thing happen to me...
Anyone got any bright ideas? There is nothing else in the settings file, Peanits got tagged so many times and still did not reply whether you can disable it yourself or not, I guess devs dont want us to, not that I can blame them for it.
0 -
They want killers to be locked in on hooked survivors so they go for a free save
0 -
Hook tech does not exist, its just the dumb animation enhancement.
0 -
i agree, i sometimes hit a tree or something like that on console due to auto aim, this isn't no first person shoot, its dbd, and unless auto aim works on huntress like a homing missile than idc, also THIS IS A FEEDBACK AND SUGGESTION MODS!!!
0 -
Eeeh autoaim-whatever does not work on projectiles, thats for sure.
And no this is not Feedback and Suggestions, this is discussion about autoaim (that turned out to be not autoaim) and how to disable it, the suggestion about adding an option in the settings was just an additional thing.
But well, no one wants to go to the idea scrapyard called "Feedback and Suggestions", this forum is confusing enough.
