Unpopular Opinion: DC Penalties

There are plenty of reasons why DCing is legitimate and shouldn't be penalized. Sorry I shouldn't be penalized for someone ruining the fun of the game.

woah man can’t go against the grain

Btw I stopped playing bc ruin made game too easy/annoying depending on the side and I come back to DC penalties being added before proper MM or the core reason of WHY ruin was used

but yea let’s add DC penalties first

Are you saying, if someone else DCs, you should be able to do so w/o penalty?

So you also shouldn't be punished for ruining the experience of 4 other people WITHOUT a good reason? Which happens far more than a good reason? Gotcha.

Often, in my experience, any reason anyone disconnects is petty, their own fragile egos, or for most often any reason other than the very rare case of it being justified.

You're just like all the other scumbags who want to justify being able to leave whenever they want for no good reason.

Just sacrifice yourself on hook, or if you really want to leave take the penalty. Who cares if you get a timeout.

I tried it after it launched. My first TO was 5 minutes. Not too bad, but increased from the test.

I hate this logic. There are reasons for DC'ing. Now if the punishment is low as they say, it wont matter.

    • Someone I know just died
    • My boss calls me and needs to to fix something remotely ASAP (I work in IT, this happens a lot)

Now don't get me wrong, those are both extreme factors, that don't occur often enough during game play for them to matter. But they are reasons.

But by far the reason I DC the most often is because two other people DC'ed.

If I am playing killer and two people DC before 1-2 gens are even done, I often DC. I have yet to find a survivor that enjoys playing 2v1 with 4-5 gens left. As a survivor, I feel the same way, if two people DC, I will run to the killer and try to let them hook me and kill myself on hook. However if they want to farm or just slug me. I DC.

My biggest issue is this won't resolve the problem w/ Survivors disconnecting because they're the first downed. They'll just give up on the first hook instead. It's the same thing, really, without any penalty. Still ruins the game for the other three Survivors.

I am not anyone like I don't know. Out of the 2 years I have Been playing I have only had to DC once or twice. With the exception of bugs there isn't alot if good reasons to dc. I played a game Friday where all four survivors dc'd as soon as they where downed. That's not a bug or glitch that cry babies who can't take getting beat. Op didn't state any reasons except seeing someone ruining their fun

"Someone ruining the fun of the game" is too subjective. What if I think a certain killer with certain add-ons or perks is unfun? Is it OK for me to DC? No. And I guarantee the penalties will be punishing this type of player, as they should be.

  • venom12784
    venom12784 Member Posts: 666

I had times where I had to go do something important didn't dc. Just let the game play if I lost a pip then oh well I didn't Ruin for everyone else

  • Ghoste
    Ghoste Member Posts: 2,135

Lol dude those cases are so extreme. And even if they did happen, just go AFK maybe? Why do you have to DC?

And other people will be punished for DCing now, so you should see less DCs overall. Meaning your main reason for DCing is being addressed with these penalties.

  • nicnc82
    nicnc82 Member Posts: 372

But you cannot ever force anyone to stay in a game. Many survivors will now and have already started to just kille themselves first hook or keep hiding from the killer and not do anything. Some killers have just slugged people just trying to play the game and then went afk while they bleed out because they know the survivor can't dc. So you feel those things are fair just so you can be catered to for someone leaving a game they don't enjoy? And I rarely dc. But I never get mad when someone dcs on me as a killer or survivor. As a killer because I play fair, I rarely get survivors dcing anyway. I dont tunnel and and dont camp.

  • Jasonisanicefella
    Jasonisanicefella Member Posts: 377

In both the scenarios dbd ceases to be a priority, so who cares about thr penalty?

Most survivors dc when downed, not for an emergency, so a few real dc get a penalty to ensure that thousands of people can play without the plague of dcing.

    Thank the gods

Yes they are extreme. I have even stated so in the post you replied to. However they are situations in which have caused me to DC within the last 3 months. My point was there are reasons to DC. I didn't say a punishment shouldn't exist.

Though I can't just go afk if my boss needs me to remote into work. DBD uses about 60-80% of my CPU. I have to close the game if I want to actually use my PC. Unless you are offering to buy me a new CPU?

And we shall see, to be honest I think they'll just go from DCing to dieing on first hook. Which is just going to cause killers to slug. Which is still going to make people want to DC

Maybe I had to go to the bathroom because of a "burrito emergency".

I'm not gonna ######### my pants just because of an online video game match.

yeah, i would like to know what in the floating ****?

I bought this game with my money so it's my choice how i play it, if i decide to d.c or not and not be punished for this especially when i am being teamed up with moronic players who have no idea what a sprint button is, or a skill check actually is... yeah, i might ruin someone else's fun by d/c but when i bought this game i wasn't asked about other players opinion, now was i?!

Screw this ****! how come these guys from BHVR can only **** **** up!?

HOW ABOUT FIXING THE FU****G HIT BOXES, you dumbasses?! WHEN A noob KILLER hits my ass after i 360 him and i'm behind him BUT SOMEHOW i get hit....

GOOD JOB, YOU ****ing M****S! you only find stupid **** to modify in this game, if i wold've been asked how this game was taken care of before buying, i would;ve given you the finger and not buy this game, especially when for my PC (which has relatively well specs) I can't even set the graphics on high.

    *slow clap* GOOD JOB!

But Red Dead Redemption 2 works like a charm on high graphics...

    *insert sarcasm here*

THANK GOD! you decided to fix the d/c problem, because we all know THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM IN THE GAME!

F*** THIS S*** AND YOUR NEW SO CALLED DUMBASS UPDATE.... AND HERE I THOUGHT THIS STUDIO COULD NOT BECOME EVEN MORE IDIOTIC...

That's actually a pretty solid idea. Rocket League has been doing that for years. One person DC's during rank, they are punished. Everyone else can DC with no penalty or rank loss.

I can get behind this if they change it that the killer is not punished for survivors DCing

Did you know that you can easily ruin peoples' games by disconnecting?

  • McLightning

Also, ruining fun is subjective as well.

A lot of people consider their fun ruined if you simply get caught and hooked. LOL

because of this d/c "ïssue" you get in a game and you see a player running around and trolling your game!? THAT WILL BE ME :)

i will not d/c but trust me i will make your games much more interesting.

    you're welcome

    @Ghoste @goat10em

What's the difference? to make the killer waste a few seconds, hit me twice, pick me up and put me on a hook? Also, that was an example, maybe I have to leave and turn off my PC or something. You know there's life outside this video game, right? The problem is when you're an ######### that DCs because you missed your DS or because the killer downed you first, that's the problem, when you DC because something happened INGAME.

What if I'm bugged and I can't move and I hold the game hostage because the killer can't even hit me?

What if the killer is bugged and can't move? Should I wait 15 minutes until he finally decides to DC?

What if a survivor or the killer is hacking or taking the game hostage somehow? Dedicated servers have NOT enterely remove hackers.

What if the killer wants to farm? I HATE FARMING, I DC immediately when the killer starts hitting a gen, I don't need BPs, I play this game to have fun and farming is boring, I'm not wasting 10 minutes of my life farming.

As you can see, there are a lot of good excuses to DC and going AFK is not always the solution. And even so, going AFK doesn not solve anything either.

People DC because they want to "win". This is how it goes in every online game, and why all decent online games have already implemented DC timeouts. It works in every other game, and it'll work here.

I am going to assume you are trying to poking fun at the reasons given here. Because honestly, the alternative would be that you simply are unable to comprehend simple logic.

To be very clear, as in my initial statement, I said

Now don't get me wrong, those are both extreme factors, that don't occur often enough during game play for them to matter. But they are reasons.

Both agreeing with you that these issues are rare, my point was to state, there are reasons to DC. You don't know everything going through someone's life, so to make the assumption that your 10 minute game is more important than a real life event is simply stupid.

Now to be fair, how often is someone DC'ing because of a life event, most likely rarely, most of them are rage quitting. I can admit that.

To be more clear, My boss does call me and ask me to remote in to fix issues all the time. I work with a life insurance company, which means when something needs looked at ASAP, it usually means something is stopping us from processing a check to give to a grieving family.

And honestly, if you think a 10 minute game is more important than someone who just lost a loved one, you clearly need to get your head checked.

As, a complete side note, I do love how much this community has focused on my outlandish claims, you know the ones where I said

Now don't get me wrong, those are both extreme factors, that don't occur often enough during game play for them to matter. But they are reasons.

More than the second half of my post, it just shows how single minded people can be.

The re-introduction of this DC penalty is now affecting me badly; I keep on getting Unhandled exception crashes nearly constantly.

Sometimes I can play 2-3 games without a crash, other time it crashes every 5 minutes. Multiple times I've been getting crashes a few minutes into a game for the past week.

I've done everything hardware and software related on my side to attempt to fix the issue but nothing works.

Now I've got to wait and hope that the game crashing doesn't happen so I don't get penalised because apparently BHVR cannot detect unintentional/game crashes...

I mean a lot of my funs ruined because of people who DC both as Killer and Survivor.

  • Ghoste
    Ghoste Member Posts: 2,135

Uh yeah, that is the difference. Let the killer kill you and get their points and stacks.

If you have an emergency, go AFK. For any other reason, maybe don't queue up if you're not gonna commit to playing the entire match. Yeah there's life outside a video game. So take your 5 minute penalty and go live life lol

I'm glad the penalties will be punishing people who behave this way.

Survivors have thr best excuses, mate just go to the toilet and go afk, you'll die and no penalty or DC and use the punishment time for your bathroom break

I believe this will only end up hurting the game in the longrun rather than helping it.

There are so many things in DBD that players are unhappy with. That causes some disconnects.

    Just my prediction though.

I would expect toxicity to rise knowing that people can’t disconnect.

There are some situations where it’s justified though. 2 survivors disconnect ruining the game for everyone. Killer slugs one for the 4k. The survivors got screwed the most by 2 others disconnecting, yet they’re expected to sit there slugged for 4 mins? Why? Why are they being punished when they did nothing wrong? They got screwed and just want a new game. Why should they have to sit bored so the killer can gloat about the “ez 4k”? (This happens more than you would expect).

All you can do is hope they fixed the crap from last time but I’m guessing they haven’t where infinite loading screens count as disconnects.

If you're bugged, just DC and suffer with the penalty. Some things can't be avoided - just submit a ticket and the devs will do something.

If the killer is bugged... just escape?

If someone is hacking, record the evidence and submit a ticket. You can spend your time doing that instead of leaving and letting it happen. They WILL get banned if you report it.

If the killer wants to farm, just go AFK and get some chores done until the game ends. There's life outside the game, right?

In other words.. DCing is not the only solution and the penalties are a good thing.

That, on wonderland, would work. But I have reported hackers, exploiters, etc... and I still see them in the game. But thanks for your reply, I agree on some things, not so much on others, if I want to play is because I don't want to do chores. Also, people can report you for going AFK so I don't understand half of the excuses, but again I don't totally agree but thanks.

The difference is one is pretending that most DCs are not simply because a match isn't going someones way. No way that someone has to ######### at the same time they get downed for a 3rd time. I'm not buying it. But if you gotta go, you gotta go. If you DC it's 5 minutes. Enjoy your poopy time and when you get back your ban is over. Bottom line is the DCs were rampant and were not because of potty emergencies and I think we all know that.

You are rather upset for someone who goes out of their way three times now to say that you don't actually care.
