Hawkins Map Design

I don't know if anyone has mentioned Hawkins on here before, but it needs to be said...

Let's start with what I like about this map:

  1. Stranger Things themed.
  2. It's great having indoor maps for variety.
  3. Some great verticality.
  4. Good vaults upstairs.

Now, what I don't like about this map:

  1. Big, long corridors with hardly anything to slow the killer down.
  2. Lot's of unsafe pallets.

Basically, I struggle to survive on this map - probably more than all the others. I've tried to set out what I like and don't like, but there's something about it that makes the match difficult as survivor. I know from Dev Streams that they want to rework maps to have more loops, but shorter. With this in mind, I think they've gone from one extreme (original Badham / Haddonfield) to another (Hawkins). It reminds me of the issue with totem spawns: they'd often spawn in obvious, easy to find places. So in the reworked maps, we often experience totems that are deeply recessed in alcoves and very difficult to locate without a perk.

What are your thoughts on this map?

Awful map. It's quite confusing and hard to find gens or survivors.

In general, I like the approach of having more "fair" Pallets. "fair" in a sense that they are not super-long Loops which can be taken multiple times before the Pallet is thrown and 100% needs to be broken by the Killer.

However, I think they went too far with Hawkins. There are only 2 Pallets which are really safe, the rest is highly unsafe. You basically NEED the Stun, otherwise you get hit. This also makes something like Spirit Fury problematic, if you need to get a Stun to get Distance, Spirit Fury completely negates it. While this is somewhat fair for Jungle Gyms and strong Pallets in general (Spirit Fury is not a healthy Perk IMO), it is not good at all for Pallets on Hawkins-Level.

Also Bloodlust is a problem with that, if the Killer does not need to break the Pallet, he can simply bloodlust every Survivor.

While I like the visual aspect of the Map, I think gameplay-wise they went a little bit too far in the direction of unsafe Pallets.

EDIT: Just to mention, I think it is kinda boring for Killer as well, because you dont need to do anything to get a hit on those Pallets.

Furthermore, if the Survivor Team is only a little bit smart, they will keep the Gen in the Portal Room and upstairs until the end. This is basically a GG for Killers, because to patrol those Gens they need to walk so much.

    Favourite map on both sides.

That drop loop is very cool, and I love the portal room (other rooms are good too) on Trapper and Hag

I think thats very subjective. Exit gates were hard to find for me, but the Game and old Lerrys were way more confusing, besides Hawkings is low RNG compared to other maps, some rooms are not even randomised.

    I think its fine.

Maps should present different challenges to killers and survivors.

There are more problematic maps, which require more attention than Hawkins in my opinion.

Rotten Fields, Blood Lodge, both Red Forest maps, just to name a few.

Add to that the fact that as an urban/indoor map the blood trail is almost impossible to hide, making it very very hard to juke any decent killer.

For me once you get hit in The Game, Lery's, Springwood and Hawkins is almost impossible to lose a decent killer, the only hope is loop him enough so he decides to go check on other people (Springwood isnt as bad as the other 3 tho).

Personally I do like this map and actually have it pretty much memorized but I will agree that there are a lot of unsafe pallets. This is true. I actually am able to survive pretty well on this map and sometimes struggle as killers but of course that is depending on the killer that I play. If I play Demogorgon, I usually have no problem since I have portals and the lunge attack. I can see a lot of killers having difficulties on this map though.

I would say to fix some of the pallets but that is about it.

Are we all going to ignore the fact that since the day it was released it's been extremely loud ?you add that to the noise bugs and you've got one hard to play map on both sides .
