Some positivity...

So, I know a lot of the comments on this forum that seem negative are coming from a place of love, because people love this game and they just want it to get better, but sometimes it can become overwhelming constantly seeing posts that are simply complaining. It just comes off like none of us appreciate any of the work the developers etc do for this game, which obviously isn’t the case, because no matter what things could still do with some fine tuning, we’ve had a great game for a few years now and even with its faults, I can’t stop playing. This is the game I’ve been wanting for the longest time. As a massive horror fan, being able to play as or against absolute icons like Michael Myers and Leatherface is just incredible to me. So, I want us to have a thread to bring some light into this (at times) dark forum. Let’s post about some memorable moments that we’ve encountered or just reasons why you keep coming back to this game.

I’ll start:

1. I love having a game that I can play with friends, as this is one of the few games that we all enjoy playing, so it’s great being able to have a good laugh whilst playing together.

2. One of my goals is to get everybody to P3, so having that to work towards keeps me coming back and it also stops the game from getting stale, as even when I do reach that stage, there’s always new killers and survivors on the way.

3. Encountering friendly killers using Iron Maiden, as hearing people constantly screaming from across the map leaves me in stitches and it’s a nice break to have games like that from time to time.

4. CUSTOMISATION. I am a huge fan of this AND I am taking sole credit for keeping this game afloat with how much money I’ve spent making my characters look pretty and shiny. (You’re welcome guys. I don’t really like praise, but I will accept gifts.)

5. Daddy Myers.

6. Hearing Claudette, Jane and Jake get downed, electrocuted or intoxicated. I laugh every single time. Even when I am the one playing as those characters, I just can’t help but chuckle at the noises they make. Kudos to the voice actors. I doubt your intention was to make us laugh, but it’s truly created such a good experience, as it can lessen the tension in a game and make being downed less of an annoyance.

7. Killers having unique abilities. I love that I don’t know what to expect during each match. Do I have to be wary of traps? Can I be one-hit downed? Does the killer have stealth? Are my perks useless against this killer? Is my item useless against this killer? I just love the unpredictability and again, it creates an environment that doesn’t become stale to me.

8. Again, Daddy Myers.

9. Finishing a game with 5 gens left standing. Rare, but so satisfying.

10. Yeeting off a hook to just get knocked straight back down instantly. This would probably annoy most, but me being as weird as I am. Can’t help but laugh when this happens. It’s just so ridiculous in the best way possible.

I could go on and on, as I’ve had a lot of memorable moments in this game, but I don’t want this post to turn into a J. K. Rowling novel.

But, to sum up. I honestly love this game and I am excited to see where it goes in the future. I’ve pretty much been here from the start and I don’t intend to go anywhere anytime soon.

What are some of your best memories / favourite things about the game?

They have great killer design and aesthetic appeal when it comes to maps and environment. The lore is interesting as well.

    Yes. The lore is great.

I also think that players sometimes judge too hard the differences between the killers. I mean, if we look at the movies, there are also running just a handful of archtypes of killers around.

I dont know, I just like this game, ironically it has thaught me how to not take gaming that seriously, watching this community and the comments they make about it made me rethink gaming in general.

There are a lot of decent perks that survivors have that allow for a lot of variety when creating builds if you're willing to not run the 5 meta perks. I've been enjoying my fair share of autodidact and any means necessary

    1. Seeing Jane. She's just. She's self explanatory.

    2. Everyone else has a toolbox but me; I laugh because I hope the killer has a Mori and is oni and gives me the love of bam bam.

    3. Daddy Myers

    4. Oni. Oni. Oni.

    5. Feng Min when she runs..... she makes the weirdest noise

    6. Demodoggo

    7. Moris. I love the good ones

    8. Chasing a crouched pig just to boop her snoot

    9. Oni... did I mention Oni?

    10. Or Daddy Myers? I forget

    11. Solid and fun matches

    12. The art

    13. The effort

    14. The dedication

Ill always think fondly of the good times before Ruin was nerfed....

Also if it hadn't been for this game going down the pan I never would have discovered Hunt Showdown.

Ok. I'm usually a positive person so I'll say one just to not write a 690 word essay about the positive stuff of this game, how about that?

When I was first introduced to DBD I was in love with it. I mean I was all my killers in one spot. Back then i played wraith and trapper. Before the Pog was introduced I felt like survivor's were scared of the killer and the looping wasn't too bad. Everyone would take a few hooks here and there. Now tho I don't have fun playing killer and if bullying the MAIN power role means I have to teabag the killer and be toxic and just run around objects until the gens are done or he gives up, I don't find that fun or skillfully at all. I don't really play anymore for weeks at a time. It boring as survivor and so stressful as killer. R.I.P.

Mob mentality? Some people have their own narrative that can easily block out anything that doesn't fit. Another reason could be that our brains reward negative emotions. Being mean, bullying, showing off, and verbally attacking others ALL display dominant behavior. In other words: They don't think, they just react. That is how we are wired.

It takes actual effort and self control to be positive and say constructive/helpful things. This is why you will always see about 90% thoughtless comments.

You can learn to control your emotions, be more mindful and try to refrain from making dominant displays. This will lead you to think rather than react which in turn will give you more options in which to respond.

I have seen a lot of constructive critism ignored, or at least until now.

I found myself writing more sensless things in the forums, because it makes no sense to repeat yourself a feeled 1k times. Still the people (me included) like to make their point of view clear.

Alone to let the problems not be forgotten. Would bhvr finally do something I hoping for, I would be the first - or one of the firsts - to write a big "thank you" thread.

What do you even mean by "I have seen a lot of constructive criticism ignored"? I'm going to need examples as I've read many positive threads on this forum before. Some ideas have just been mentioned to death and maybe that's why they are ignored, but these forums don't make you a developer for the game. I would say 99% of us have no clue on how to make a game, or make this game better. In the end, it's their game and they know more than we ever will. We can make suggestions, but that doesn't mean it's good or that they must implement them. Accusing them of ignoring is highly subjective. Especially when you consider the rainbow of suggestions they get on a daily basis, with most ideas conflicting against others and some just simply not being practical. The devs listen, but game design takes time. They may have plans we aren't even aware of. For example EGC was in the works for half a year. Nobody knew until they announced it. It was met with harsh (and I mean HARSH) criticism from many survivors on these very forums and now EGC is barely a noticeable. In other words: people usually don't know what they want or what they are talking about.

Look, I am going to sleep in 20 minutes and so I don't like to write a wall of text now and I am also not in the mood right now to repeat myself, but you can't denie that in the forums are often to find good concepts and/or ideas.

Of course it is their game and of course they make with it what they want. But I wouldn't say that devs always knew what is best. Also for this we have examples (a lot). As example: The devs from "Anthem" have thought, I bet, that they make a game that everybody would like to play, but unsurpringsly for many people - it wasn't this kind of game.

If you "produce" something (I use this word on purpose very lossly), you often think that you work on the best thing in the world, because all your work goes in this, all your thoughts and sweat. Sadly that can some people make blind for the thing that other people would like to see.

And so it is not wrong imo, to give from time to time feedback as user and to listen as dev.

That doesn't mean that everything needs to be implemented what the users say, but sometimes it would imo good for dbd if some ideas would find an open ear, because if we just look at dbd itself - it is a great game, with a great concept and also lore behind it.

The most people complain not because they hate the game, the most do it because they like or even love it.

I like imagining every trial as an ongoing story, so I try to give everything done some purpose.

I also like bringing perks a lot of people don't expect. Lately it's deliverance but sometimes a pebble or cruel limits can really catch people off guard. I find those moments entertaining.

  • samination
    samination Member Posts: 312

But they do listen. It's just there are so many voices/opinions (usually conflicting).

As the book Significant Zero says, "Fans are wonderful and should always be embraced, but their opinions can be deadly to the creative process.

Fandom is an organized religion whose holy laws are handed down by people who get angry on the internet. By defining what something should and should not be, fans secure ownership over that which they love. When their passion informs rather than inspires, it becomes a millstone around a creator's neck.

Their job is not to give players what they want; but to show them things they never imagined."

    TheLastGreatStar Member Posts: 1,002

That’s a really interesting way to view each trial! I might try this mindset when I next play. One thing I sometimes do is go perkless, as it creates a more realistic experience and makes you really think about everything you do. Adds some terror to the game.

The existance of David and his shirtless cosmetic just make me happy inside. There is nothing better than using head on as shirtless David, yeeting out of the locker and using your swole arms to smack some poor soul in the face.

    Other memorable moments?

The time I hit rank 1 as old freddy, no addons, and trying my best to play fair. It was so incredibly frustrating but oh my god did it feel worth it.

Sinking over 1.5k hours into this game, about 750 on each side. Hitting rank 1 killer around around the 500 hour total mark, but finally recently hitting rank 1 survivor too was just amazing.

Since Demise of the Faithful, this game has been slowly getting better. Sure, there've been some... Questionable moments, but overall this game has somehow improved more and more each time.

Thank you, BHVR. As much as I love to make jokes about you, you've truly done an amazing job keeping this game afloat for coming up 4 years now. Considering how you do this whilst giving all your employees a very good amount of time off and everything (almost everyone if not everyone got Christmas off, for a week. No other company I can think of does that) , thank you so much.

    Here's to another 3 years.

I can't believe I didn't mention Daddy King in my original post. He's my favourite male survivor and I main as him a lot. I love that he's from Manchester as that's my hometown too, so he just feels like 'my' character, if that makes sense? lol.

I loved this post and I definitely agree with that final part. I think we're often quick to forget just how much time and effort does go into keeping this game running, so that's why I wanted a thread where we can all show the Developers that their time IS appreciated.

@LegionMain343  Frank is my man! I never understood the Legion hate. They're top 3 for me. Michael, Pig and Legion are my mains.

  • I just love the frequent updates, keeping the game fresh and new. It actually feels like developers care for once for their game, and keeping the fans happy.

Getting a decent amount of chases

    Confusing survivors with Hag

End a game with one Oni blood fury/ tier 3 myers

hitting people in loops with pig dash

    head pops with pig

Running a Spirit for 1 minute 30 seconds and escape through hatch

    crawl to a hatch

Hit 5 old ruin skill check in a row

I really enjoy the game, and I hope in the 4th year of this game the developers are gonna fix the core problems currently in the game.

Well, maybe not the best quote one can pick up :).

It can be interpreted as one sided or exaggerating.

But that is a positive thread and I like to stay positive. This forums show us enough opportunities to write different opinions.

So I stay by my words. I like the lore and I appreciate the artstyle of the dbd team. Especially in times where so many games set on the anime artstyle (I just prefer here the more "realistic" western style).

And also as already mentioned is kates song great. I would actually enjoy to listen, to a full (just the guitar without a voice) song of it, instead to a X minutes repeater where just someone has copy the jingle over and over again.

I love Dead by Daylight. Here is why:

    1. The first 2 weeks playing this game were for me the most intense in gaming history. I played so many games (its about 30 years now :o), watched so many scary movies, read many horror books and were in some terrible relationships with horrible women but DbD got me completly unprepaired. Thanks for that!
    2. The amazing sound of Dead by Daylight. Oh god i love the sound, its soooo well done. The music alone is phenomenal but the icing of the cake are the soundeffects and the fact how important sound overall is.
    3. The ballancing is really really good! It must be a really hard task to ballance a asymetric game like this, but they did a really good job so far :) Especially look how much the game changed, watch some old videos and then tell me the game is not in a good shape ballancewise.
    4. I absolutly love the RPG elements with the perk system, its just great. So many wonderful perks to try out, perk combinitions that enebale different playstyles.. just great. I really enjoyed grinding for those perks (and i still do) because i wanted to try out every single one and i wanted to see what i can do.
    5. The amazing Killer. Gosh those killers are really well done. Having Myers, Pig, Ghostface etc from those movies is just epic, but also all the housemade killers are fantastic. I love the powers they have and how they feel to play. Very well done.
    6. The core concept. A 4v1 Cat&Mousegame in a horror universe... Terrorradius, Red Stain, Pallets, Hooks... all those ideas come together so well. I love it
    7. The atmosphere is still really good, even tho i would appreciate it, if it would be a little bit more grity and dark on some maps. A great role model map for good atmosphere is any McMillan Map

Thank you devs for making such a nice gaming experience. It is a shame, that many dont appreciate your work as you would deserve. Spoiled generation i guess :(

    Kind regards
