What's the matchmaking system?
I'm relatively new to the community and have around 8 hours of play time at the time of writing this. I mainly play killer and I've been having some weird matches.
After I passed killer rank 18 it seems to keep throwing me in with higher levels. These players will wipe the floor with me to put it bluntly. I usually only get 1 kill at most. It seems to be happening every couple games now, and I'm just kinda confused.
Isn't the ranking system supposed to match people with the same rank? Is this just happening because there aren't many other people queuing in my area? Is it SWF groups that are messing with the matchmaking algorithm?
I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts and if they've had the opposite (being a high level match made against a low)

First of all, welcome to the community.
Back on topic; this is not intended. Yes, you are supposed to ideally be paired up with people close to your rank. We're going through some matchmaking issues at the moment, but we have a new system on the way. There's a post with full details here, if you're interested: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/124795/
The short version is that we're switching to a different method of ranking and matching people, so you shouldn't have that problem in the future.

@KerkDeller on a positive side you may be seeing better experienced players and see how they run loops or make plays. Seeing as you play Trapper this may give you better ideas where traps need to go.

They'll finish all 5 gens before he can even place the traps lol

Wow, thanks a ton for the quick response and information. This explains everything I need to know.

It is about learning during the chases. Nobody is expecting him to do well in those matches. He has 8 hours in the game vs players with potentially hundreds to thousands of hours.

That's what I'm saying, he'll learn hardly anything by getting stomped...it's more likely than not demotivate him to continue playing.

You don't have to worry about seeing how ######### up the matchmaking is. They're going to hide it so they don't have to fix it any more.
