New ranking system
As most of us are aware the new ranking system that will be implemented won’t allow other players to see your ranks, even after a match. This isn’t fixing the issue of ranking but rather covering it up, like putting picture over a hole in the wall.
Essentially a rank 20 killer can get put against a team of rank 1 survivors, or the other way around, and just because you can’t see each others ranks, it’s now suddenly fixed? The issue is still there but is being sugarcoated by not being able to see each other’s ranks.
What are your thoughts? Do you think the new ranking system fixes the issue or does it need improving?

I don't think they can fix the problem.
Quite simply playing killer had been made so awful that the number of killers, mostly high rank killers have dropped considerably.
The only way out would be to make the killer role fun and rewarding.
To do so they would need a massive rework of several aspects of the game :
- map size
- loops strength
- removal/reduction of cooldowns
- nerfing meta perks and don't allow certain combo like ds unbreakable, noed blood warden etc
- remove moris and keys
- promote player's interactions, like chases and jukes and make them prominent without costing the killer an entire match.
This would fix matchmaking, but I won't be on this massive action plan

I'm already thinking of how easily this could be exploited, like playing couple afk wraith or throwing some matches as survivor and boom, I'm facing people who have few hours on the game.
rank should always matter a little.

My biggest problem is: if we, the players, here on this forum, through purely debate, cant even really decide on what is and what isnt a good player....then how is some program suppose to figure it out?
But really, we can talk about this till the cows come home but it is a pointless effort.
We will just have to wait and see how it works out, if we all a month after its implementation get matches with rather consistent 2 escapes and 2 kills then we should agree the system actually works.

Most of the time you can tell roughly what rank a killer is by how they play, there are exceptions obviously. Ranking isn’t the best way to determine skill but it’s better than nothing, the issue I have is when you are put into a match with people who are a much higher or lower rank than you are, you should be paired with people who are in the same rank bracket as you.

We don't know exactly how the system will work yet. It might just be based on the same as rank (pip = +mmr, depip = -mmr) or it could be more complicated than that and someone could in theory have a rank of 6 and MMR solidly in rank 1 territory.
Until we know exactly how it determines if your mmr should go up or down we can't really know if it'll lead to this sort of problem.

The point system they implement for the match making will be different from how pips are calculated. But as the current PiP system does not really reflect skill but rather how much you played this season, I'm not sure if they reinvent the wheel (or more likely reinvent a block that's not rolling) or if they really put a working system behind.
I'm not sure if they have any system in mind that is able to determine if it was a good chase of 10 seconds against an instadown killer, while all pallets in the area have already been broken, or a bad 30 second chase against an M1 killer where the survivor just dropped pallet after pallet and still went down. Or if the trapper placed a trap very well and pushed the survivor in it or if the survivor just stepped into it with no pressure and no eyes.
If they keep calculating on how many gens you have done or how many unhooks / heals you did, you are still depending on the performance of the killer (no hooks = no unhooks) and your teammates ("I got chased for 5 minutes, you need to do the gens" / you can't heal persons that ignore you while using selfcare). And that means the new system will have the same flaws and nobody can discuss as it is hidden

yes well that is an entirely different discussion involving how little ranking makes sense, how ranking was made easier for survivors because of complaints, how that resulting in tons of survivors "undeserved" reaching red ranks but killers dont so lobbies take forever and you eventually get paired up with a low(er) rank killer that might or might not be of the right skill level....
Rank just means someone played a lot, thats it.
The point of the new system is to not rely on the emblem system but something hidden. it rewards you for "beating" someone who is rated better then you, changes a little if they are rated teh same as you, and does nothing if they are rated lower.
Makes sense apart from that we dont know how these ratings work OR what it means to "beat" someone....
But again, whatever magic is going on behind the scenes, the point is the outcome.
If this results in matches where on average there are 2 escapes and 2 deaths, then mission ackomplished, we just have to wait and see.

Yeah I agree, we have no idea how the new ranking system will work and it could completely fix the issue, but we will have no way of knowing how it will effect matchmaking because we won’t be able to see each other’s ranks.

As a killer I have already decided what rank my survivors are by the end of the game. I'm often wrong but once they hide the rankings I'll just start stubbornly assuming I was right.
I like to see the rankings just so I can feel better about my performance. "Oh that was a rank 1? Then I don't mind that I got destroyed", or "That was a rookie Huntress running a single level 1 perk? I'm trash".

Our current ranking system was garbage to begin with. It only expressed playtime that month. If you played enough you could hit r1. I feel the new system won't be any different and instead of fixing the issue it's going to try to take attention off it.

We all know that, even the devs themselves agreed that removing ranks is a band-aid cover yet they still gonna do it lol they just dont know how to fix it, so they just gonna don whatever that want.

There's no legitimate reason for them to hide it other than to hide the problems. If their new system was good there wouldn't be any reason to hide it.

Exactly!

It’s a coverup. BHVR didn’t expect most of the Killers who said they were going to leave after the Ruin change to actually go through with it. This is what led to the shortage of Killers and extremely ######### up matchmaking of today. Now the devs are either panicking and trying to cover up their mistakes or don’t realize that all those Killers leaving is the cause of the ######### matchmaking.

New matchmaking will be the biggest band aid the game has ever seen.
If there was a actually working system in place it wouldnt be hidden mmr.

The new matchmaking system is already online, you know the double Killer matches? If the game thinks you are that bad at Killer because of your extra low MMR it will send you backup, it's working :D
