The Doctor's cut scene in the rift

So, in The Doctor's archive he opens someone up and then keeps them alive by supplying electricity. Is it actually possible to cut someone up and keep them alive by supplying electricity to the heart and the open places?

Possibly, but you might have to be very careful as the person could bleed out if you cut them wrong

Basically I think Doc was using electricity to make muscles spasm and contract or relax to mimic as if the body was perfectly fine. Doing something like stimulating the heart with electricity to pump blood is basically what a pacemaker does IRL. He could've also been using electricity to make his lungs pump to breathe, basically like what an oxygen mask does, or using smaller electric currents to keep the brain functioning.

There was an old Russian scientist who kept a dog's head alive. Though apparently only for a few minutes.
