I came to a sad realization.
Reading another thread I came to a sad realization.
When the ranking system becomes hidden, I will probably quit the game.
I realize I don't get that idea at all, instead of improving the matchmaking and showing the playerbase they are improving it, it feels like BHVR's thought process is "we'll just hide it that way if it's still screwed up players won't know to complain about it".
But I realize for me, the ranking system is what I actually play for. Now I know I'm in the minority but I actually like the challenge of hitting rank 1 each month and trying to maintain that spot through game after game, and I like the sense of accomplishment of getting there each and every time. It's like climbing a mountain, sure the journey is similar each time but there's still nothing quite like standing at the summit and reveling in a job well done.
By all means I understand playing games "for fun" and the idea of casual gaming, I play plenty of other games like that. But in a pure PVP only game it just feels like not having rankings means there's nothing to work toward, now it's just endless games where it doesn't matter if you win or lose, just try to get your challenges done so you can unlock more bloodpoints to.....to.....level killers and survivors to get more addons and perks that don't matter cause there's nothing you're working towards?
I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it, but I always though this game should have had a ranked and unranked mode a long time ago, let casual players play with other casuals and let hardcore competitive masochistic morons like me duke it out with those optimal SWF teams that I loathe to no end, but man getting a 4k against those sweaty bastards is the most fun I can have without being forced to cuddle afterwards.

Yeah there really is nothing better than demolishing a 4-man SWF on a blatantly survivor sided map like Thompson House or Ormond

I'm a casual player, but I believe ranking only shows how much time you play a month. Those teams will still be there, and you'll know when you run into them.
Supposedly you're gonna have a rating that'll put you in where you should be. Which is kinda sad for me because I like playing low rank games. (Lately I've been getting red rank survivors at rank 13 killer. Yeah sure I'll kill'em but I want to meme with clueless rank 20s kthx)
It would be cool if they added a slider though that told the system you wanna fight people with a high rating though.

I'll respectfully disagree as just playing a lot is no guarantee of a pip, particularly for killer. I would concede that the way ranking works now with only going back to rank 5 it's actually not that bad to get back into at least red ranks again, so maintenance is easier, but getting back to rank 1 is still 20 pips you need to acquire and the requirements at those ranks are pretty stringent and the survivors you're going to face are going to play optimal more often than not.
I understand the idea of the rating matching me up with survivors of similar MMR, but having nothing to work towards is the problem, and no visible way to chronicle progress just makes it feel empty and repetitive.
It reminds me of years ago when I played World of Warcraft seriously (yes, I'm a nerd, fight me) and was used to playing in Top 50 and Top 100 US level guilds but had to try more casual raiding later because of life commitments (for those that don't know, playing WoW at a high level back in the day required not only a high level of skill and practice, but tons of time to farm materials for consumables for each raid night). I very quickly realized that unless I'm playing at a top end level I just don't enjoy it, I would get mad at teammates for not playing optimally, I would get frustrated at lack of progress, it just didn't work.

From my understanding, you will still be able to see your own ranking. You won't be able to see anyone elses.

Oh if that's the case then disregard, I'm cool with that, I just want something to see for my own sense of progress.
