One thing DBD could learn from RE Resistence
so right off the bat I think its important to learn and see what the competition is doing. RE Resistance is a good game but that's not what im here to talk about. RE has something that DBD should adopt and that's the random option. In RE resistance you can choose to be a survivor or mastermind or you can play as both and just find the quickest match. Why doesn't DBD already have this?

Overwatch also has this feature for its roles, but it has an issue that would also affect DBD.
because of queue times and individual role ranks, you would most likely be picked to play one side (in this case probably killer) a lot more often.

DBD did actually have that feature at one point.
But most people prefer playing a particular role at a given moment and it wasn't very useful back then. Now that killers are no longer always the host it might be a little more functional, but I'm still not sure enough people would use it for it to have an effect on queue times for the people who don't use the feature. Meanwhile, like tactic said, anyone who does use it might as well just queue up for whatever role normally takes longer for them to get a match, because the "Any" queue would probably give them that role 90% of the time.

I would rather them just add “average queue time,” for each side then instead of random you would pick the faster. If you’re torn on what to play you could see about how long you’d wait either way

I was prepared to laugh upon reading the title. Terrible game, but that is a nice feature.

I’m so mad, they NEED good competition for motivation to make DBD better... maybe predator?

Only thing that keep this game going is the vast selection of movie characters you can play as. I only started playing when i saw they had freddy, leatherface and the pig etc. The game does get repetitive but that like most games out there including Predator, friday the 13th. As long as they keep up the movie killers they won't have much competition in the 1v4 matchup.

I'm pretty sure you would play killer all day long then.If you look into the different queue times as killer and survivor.
I would love it if they could bring back the feature that lets you switch between playing killer or survivor without going back to the main menu (before dedicated servers were introduced).

Predator is going to flop after a month of initial success. Mark my words

its being made by the Friday the 13th devs so expect game breaking bugs to last upwards of six months.

Illfonic is infamous for ruining good games with greed. If Gun Mettle had full control over F13, then DBD would have some competition

So basically a "Play as Killer mode". Nobody would use it sadly.

Nobody would be able to play survivor anymore.
And honestly, if I want to play killer, I dont want to play survivor and vice versa

DBD did have a Quickplay feature, but it was removed because very few people ever used it (and IIRC it's existence led to some problems).
While they could probably fix it up and add it back in, I just don't think there's much incentive for them to.
Realistically their time is probably better spent elsewhere.

A good competitor would have to learn and improve from DbD itself and even take inspirations by the core game loop like Identity V and Souls at Stake did e.g.
Yeah an average queue timer is something I would prefer as well. Would definitively influence, if I'm gonna try to play killer or not. The only reason why DbD might not do it is that it might incentive people to turn the game off instead of switching roles. But that probably already happen, when people experience a lobby simulator.

I'll never forgive them for friday.

So as an update and response to what a lot of you are saying I have to respectfully disagree to the thought that it wouldn't work. I do believe that a random option would actually work pretty good for this game.
Everyone is saying that you would only find killer matches and that's true, at first. It takes time for new systems to be adopted. As more people try out and begin to use the random option then queue times might actually change up a bit. I might be speaking anecdotally but when I play DBD I don't care what role I play, both are fun. Its because of my perspective that I believe Im not alone when I say Id like it if I could find a match as quick as possible and I don't care if in that moment the fastest match has me playing as killer or playing as survivor.
