can there please be no leave penalty for killer OR survivor
I just think nobody should be forced to stay in a match if they are not having fun. However if you are losing that's not an okay reason to leave. It's just that a lot of the time you can get into games where people are being huge pieces of sh** and you'd just rather leave and search for a new game. If that's too big of a thing to ask for then don't have an absurd amount of time banned. For example maybe 15 mins if you leave but it doesn't get any higher than that.

That's what it was like before and people were abusing it to all hell. The issue is you can't tell if someone isn't having fun, or if they did it because they were losing, so you either penalise everything or nothing. In this case, it's a better idea to penalise everything.

Well you're not forced stay in the game, because you can still DC and eat the penalty. If someone is DCing often enough to get a big penalty then they are just ruining the game for the other 4 people involved.
Seriously though, if you have to DC that much because all of the games suck then I would recommend finding a different game. I don't say that to be a jerk or sarcastic, I genuinely mean that if you get large bans for DCing a lot then maybe a less stressful game would be appropriate.

fair enough but as i said i don't want to be banned for like 3 hours because i wasn't having fun and that's completely out of my hands. For example i'm getting face camped or i'm being bullied by 4 swf I'll eat the fifteen minute ban and all the "gg ez" bs but that's not my fault i can't change the way these people play and devs won't change much with this in my opinion. by the way i know this sounds stupid because i've just written a paragraph about it but what is the maximum amount of time you can get banned for leaving?
1 -
If you're getting a 3 hour ban you must have dced an awful lot.
There are 2 reasons for the penalties:
-To stop people dcing out of spite for being the first found and downed
-To help people who dc our of anger calm down.
In this case the penalties are good. If you're not having fun, take a break, then a bigger break, etc etc. If you're having so little fun you eat that many penalties maybe you really should play something else for the day

No i haven't even been banned yet i've just logged on (xbox btw) and they said they've introduced it. I just think that the penalty will build up over and over again over the span of like a couple of days and eventually you'll be banned for like six hours or something. But yet again i haven't been banned and don't know what the maximum ban time is. Even professional streamers dc sometimes simply because they're getting bullied or face camped over and over again. In my opinion just let people have the freedom to leave when they want. For example I'm getting bulled by a couple of swf groups i should be able to leave and survivors will keep their items and their ranks will remain untouched. I, however, will lose two pips and maybe even derank. Now if a survivor leaves that's a different story. If I'm getting face camped the best thing to do would be to stay on hook to give my teammates time to do gens and hopefully all 3 will escape. But if a survivor is leaving because they are getting tunneled or is simply getting downed a lot that isn't good. I don't really know what to do with that because obviously there's no filter for bans or whatever but i think there's more negatives to bans than positives

DC bans are needed, too often do you get toxic survivors that will click their flashlight etc. but if you down them they DC, Same goes for people who are hooked first. people often only see a fun game when they are doing well, which is obvious and fair because even im the same. if i lead on good chases and stuff im having fun, if i dont im likely not having as much but at the end of the day its a game, so much can change and there never a reason to quit out because youre being petty. on xbox people have been using the DC exploit (They DC but counts as an escape which should be major bans tbh). but if you have an emergency you can just DC, after all the times arent terrible and you arent gonna have lots of emergencies before the bans reset. but ust quitting due to being downed, not doing so great etc. shouldnt be allowed, it ruins everyones games and fun and you shouldnt be selfish. no one is forcing you to play, you have other games or other things to do and you can only get better if you stick through those harder matches so DC`s bans are fair and just.

what are the times? like how long can you get banned for?

If somebody keeps repeatedly leaving games why shouldn't they be kicked out for increasing amounts of time? If they don't want to commit to an activity they themselves signed up for (playing the game) and want to continue ruining the game for others, and 5 or 10 minutes ban isn't enough, then they should be banned for 3 hours, 6 hours, even 24+ hours. However long it takes people to realize that ruining other peoples' games isn't okay, should be the amount of time they get banned. So if that takes 5 minutes, fine. If it takes 6 hours, fine. Either way, it's pretty much up to the person DCing to lower their own penalty.
It should remain in place. If any change should be made, it should be more strict.

I don't see how leaving a game as killer should affect a survivor other than feeding their massive ego. I'm agreeing with everyone on this so far btw i just think sometimes killers and survivors have really good reasons to leave and they shouldn't be banned for that. If people aren't happy with that i'll take the odd 15 min ban but not 6 hours that's just absurd.

the DC bans really arent that harsh, im pretty sure the first few is a few mins then at the max is becomes an hours. but you need to quit alot and often for that to happen, the DC ban times will go down if you dont quit so lets say you end up having to quit a game once a week for an emergency, you wont even notice the ban as itll be such a short time and will be reset before your next DC. i cant remember the exact times from memory im sure others know it but i havent quit a game in years whether thats DBD or another game, obviously we can all disconnect through powercuts or wifi issues but they arent common and you wont notice the bans, if you are having connection trouble its best to sort that with your internet provides and be mad at the game though. it is after all just trying to improve the experience for everyone.

Lost offerings, lost add ons, lost pips, lost time... If it isn't obvious to you then you either just don't know the game well enough or you lack empathy/don't care about other people.
If they have a really good reason to leave, like somebody is about to give birth, or even something like they have a sudden urge to take a massive dump, that type of thing will only happen once in a very long while. You can eat a 5 minute ban. If you DC enough to get all the way up to 6 hours then you obviously aren't taking the hint that you shouldn't be playing the game, and need to be forcibly kept out for even longer.
4 -
i agree with offerings but 1. no matter what add ons will always be lost 2. i don't think survivors rank should be affected if the killer leaves but if a teammate leaves that is a different story and 3. it takes like 5 mins to get into another match and at the end of the day it's a game nobody even me should take it too seriously. and yet again I HAVE NOT BEEN BANNED FOR 6 HOURS i've said it multiple times. And it's not that i don't care about other people it's just i've encountered more toxic survivors than i have encountered respectful players

No, the trolls are entitled to have their fun and ruin the game for everyone else....apparantly

someone finally agrees with me... I think

Just try not to let toxic people get to you, it can be hard at times sure but its not worth it. but i refuse to play especially killer until DC bans are made a sure thing, iv had the game coming up 3 years. while i dont play it a huge amount like some people im always rank 1 killer and survivor but when i last played the game i done 5 killer games, i had 2-3 DC`s each match, some was on first down, some on second and some on death hook to rob me of points, they was toxic, ran god loops etc. and then quit when i get them and they should be punished, i often use party streamers and always use BBQ so im losing huge BP and its not fun just to wait to get into a game, have people try be toxic and run god loops then when you get someone they dc, its boring and annoying. theres no point quitting if youre struggling, the harder games are where you learn most! a great thing to do is play both roles, survivor is more chill and you can learn more killer tricks but also do other things, theres no point playing the game if youre gonna get stressed. sure you get bad games and toxic people but thats most PVP games tbh and its best to try your best and just step away, quitting dont help anything, you wont improve and you can ruin peoples games whether the DC is a killer or survivor. just play, try your best and thats all anyone is asking of you, just dont DC

The problem with fun is that it is subjective and where is the line drawn.
What was happening in game was players were leaving for too many reasons. Certain maps, items, offerings, killers, being outplayed. The game simply was not going their way or what they deemed would be fun.
For the devs to gather stats on what is happening all these things need to stop or each stat becomes skewed.
Players leaving on either side ruin the game for the others. Leaving for anything but legitimate real life reasons imo is wrong. Why boot up a game if you have to leave so often? That says to me that you are not enjoying it for what it is anyway.
As far as I know the dc punishments go something like 5m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 3h, 6h etc and keep climbing. They reset 24h after the last dc was made.

Thanks a lot that's cleared up a lot of stuff for me.

A used up item with addons isn't the same thing as one that was just wasted because the killer decided they can't commit to the game that they signed up for. Never said you got banned for 6 hours either, I don't know where you got that from. I'm saying that if somebody still doesn't understand how things work at 6 hours then it's still an appropriate time for them to be banned... Because they obviously still don't get that the developers aren't okay with people being quitters. As is the case with most game devs.
I guess you're just too set in your ways to understand how you could negatively impact the gaming experience of others and how selfish it is, so I'm just gonna call it quits.

i honestly don't care for toxic survivors messaging me cause i say in my head "just cause they're sad doesn't mean you have to be too"
although i was called a black slave once that was quite annoying. i usually quit and move on but obviously i cannot do that anymore i shall have to endure the pain

say that to like more than half of the survivor base that try to ruin it for me every single day

Survivor view
So you and your friends hire a private chef for dinner and all meet somewhere special
The cook decided to leave and you all get a free meal ! But... only some of you got food. You wasted ur time going out
Killer view
So you and your friends have a private chef again
and one of you decides mid meal to walk out because ur bored... the food gets canceled you all get a side dish but the rest of the meal is terrible and cook gets not only bad reviews and he misses out on pay.
No matter what everyone involved wouldn't have bothered to show up if they knew one person would ruin it for everyone.
It really doesn't matter if you leave for valid reasons or u got sick
If you have a weak constitution you have no business making and then ruining everyone's plans.

Its why I stopped playing. Had a large number of trolls within a very short period. People that fast vault to get the killers attention then try to sandbag you to get you killed, why? Because I got to a chest first. People who work with the killer to farm me and my friend over and over again and the killer leaves them alone in return while they try to sandbag you. People who run OoO, find the survivors then motions for the killer to come over and again they farm you off hook and the killer leaves them alone in return.
You’re not allowed to leave the game you’re expected to sit there for 5 minutes and smile while the trolls have their fun.
Want anything done? Then the onus is on you to record it, upload it which takes forever and then fill out a report form....but you just get the “we’re looking into it” responce and nothing more.
I’m not surprised one bit though. Everyone knows DBD made its money on toxicity. They’ll keep allowing it to go on as long as the money roles in.

Dc penalty is just stupid because:
-survivors can just kill themselves on hook and it's basically like dcing
-killers can't do anything, but even if they could dc there would be no problem, obviously.
0 -
Can you imagine what would happen if there was no penalty, at all, for DC'ing? You would then start complaining about never being able to finish a game. If you can't make it through an 8 minutes game, perhaps it IS time to go back to another game.,

The dc temp ban resets if you dont dc for 24 hours is what i recall someone saying. My only dcs are EAC kicking me midmatch of my first game. For some reason after that it seems fine.

And when are the penalties for Hard Tunnel/ Face Campers coming??? DC is not ruining people's game, constant toxic killer/survivor behavior is. I am with OP, being trapped in a game with people playing terrible, griefing, etc is worse than a DC. I have never had a problem with people Dcing, sometimes I whole haeartedly agree with their decision to leave. And you can get a 6 hour penalty on your 3rd DC, so it is not a "if you are DCing sooo much you deserve it" the penalties rise at an ridiculous rate. And there is no accounting for # of games or hours played. You could play 150 games over 2-3 days, and 3 DCs = hours long penalties. This is a game that every individual paid to play and no other major multi-player game forces you to play with people abusing you. The DC penalty system has also emboldened poor behavior because the perpetrator knows that if you DC to get away from them, you will still be punished for their poor sportsmanship. I left the sides vague because I have both sides behave pretty toxic. I am not against the DC penalty idea but it has been executed terribly in DbD, and in general is now punishing the wrong people. Maybe they could put a little effort into fixing the issues that cause so many DCs in the 1st place.

Agree, I have had a decent amount of matches as a survivor where another survivor teams up with the killer to find other survivors and then gets hatch as a reward. They get on your gen and purposefully blow it, jump in and out of windows and lockers near you, then point when the killer comes. I had a match the other day where a plague kept downing a Steve so he could see me, then pick him up and drop him till he was popped up and he would lead her to me. I managed to evade them for a good long time. Finally I got caught, and then Steve got hatch. I just had to keep going because if I left I would face the penalty for them teaming me. I also know reporting is useless because I am not a streamer so I don't have footage to give them. So they just tell me, w/o footage they can't do anything.

-DCing isn't the objective of people playing DbD. Killing people is.
-Unless you're being bodyblocked in a corner and can't get out, you aren't being held hostage.
-You don't get a 6 hour penalty after 3 DCs. That's simply false, at least on PC.
-"no other major multi-player game forces you to play with people abusing you." Once again, simply false. Examples off the top of my head: Overwatch, League of Legends, DotA 2, CS:GO... I could probably find more examples, but all those are very high profile games.
I think that about covers everything.

I play overwatch and have never had a problem leaving a match, and nothing that comes close to a 24 hour penalty. The hostage is not being able to leave a match, although I have been griefed by other survivors body blocking you in somewhere until the killer comes (but that was not what I was talking about). I have had 6 hour penalty twice so yes I know 1st hand that 3 DCs in can get you that length of time. And I am not sure what your 1st comment means, we were not discussing game objectives in this thread.

You must not play OW comp mode, or maybe you do since you admit to receiving something but "nothing that comes close to a 24 hour penalty." Even then, I still recall punishments for disconnecting from competitive.
Last time I checked, this is how the penalties stacked up:
1st = 1 minute
2nd = 5 minutes
3rd = 15 minutes
4th = 30 minutes
5th = 1 hour
6th = 6 hours
7th = 24 hours
If they did increase it since then, that's good in my opinion, because after they were implemented I still would constantly see people disconnecting right after getting downed for the first time. Just because you're not having fun, that doesn't mean that you aren't in a game that you signed up to play. Just because you paid money, doesn't mean you get to put your own selfish desires before everybody else who paid good money for it as well.
And to address your confusion: There's a penalty for DCing because it's not a part of the gameplay loop, it's refusing to play whatsoever and the devs don't want it. I said it in reference to you asking me "And when are the penalties for Hard Tunnel/ Face Campers coming???" Once again, disconnecting isn't part of playing the game. Killing people is, whether somebody decides to do it in an unskilled way (facecamping) or not. So no punishments for that. Yes for disconnection penalties. Especially because everybody seems to have a different definition of what "face camping" or "tunneling" is.
So to reiterate points:
-DCing isn't part of the game, killing is.
-You aren't being held hostage by being camped or tunneled. Your game is bound to end soon if that's the case.
-As far as I know, it's not 6 hours for 3 disconnects. If it is that and I just wasn't aware they changed it, then that's actually better than 1 = 1, 2 = 5, and 3 = 15. That way people take it more seriously if they decide to baby rage.
