There are a lot less killers lately, so it's probably just that you aren't finding any killers to get into a match with. Killer queues are really fast these days, as there are tons of survivors to match up against.
16 -
Killer gameplay is a bit more stressful and less rewarding than survivor. It's easier to feel a defined sense of objectives as a survivor, especially when you pip so easily.
As a killer you depip easily, especially if you kill the survivors too fast.

The devs have not released information regarding this problem, but most theorize it is due to faulty matchmaking. The evidence to support this is that the devs are doing a matchmaking rework soon.

Not enough killers.
Probably because there is a distinct lack of killer perks that actually do anything in the very early game when Killers are at their weakest.
9 -
It depends of the time of the day really I think but also it has to do with the MM and finding killers your rank.
May I suggest you play some killer a bit? That's what I do when Survivor queue gets too long.
0 -
There are many factors that go in the long queue times like; low amount of killers, MM, Time of day, region, if new games came out(EX: FF, RE3 and Resistance), no new content, week or 2 after rift, weeks after chapter. Work, school (Normal circumstances) and whatever else.

Well, to be honest, I fully intended to come back and add another Killer into the queue. But, I checked here first, discovered that the matchmaker is in the exact place it was when I walked away in December 2019, and decided to download DbD Mobile, instead.

No idea the platform of the op. Yet over here on the pc, my experience is petty much akin to yours. Early in the morning. Survivor games fast and quick, a mere slap of your fingers. Killer takes awhile. While late at night, other way around. Super fast killer games. While survivor takes awhile to find a game for.

Yeah, i feel ya. Sometimes you just wanna play survivors but due to the time you play the game. The wait times are just awfully long or it's the other way around [if you enjoy playing kill from time to time]. Which yeah, i seen my fair share of killers bringing in moris and have been the person who has been the first one to die to a mori. Leading to very short games. Have been thankfully not seen many tunnels or campers when i play. Not sure if you play with friends or not. Yet if you are coming across alot of killers who tunnel. Burrow time might be useful, for you or your friend to bring along. Which if you are solo, kindred could help alot. To give both you and your teammates all sorts of information. If you should stay on a gen or should go for the hook and know if the killer is nearby the hook or not. Which can help you know if they are camping or not.

Its true that some people theorze that, but how do you know its most? can you back up that claim? also, you use the word evidence very casualy, because thats no evidence at all, its an interpretation.

TIme to start playing killer

TL;DR Rank system is broken, Matchmaking system is broken and use some elements of the rank system. Killers probably have shorter game sessions so matchmaking need more killers to fill increasing the 1-4 expected killer-survivor relation.
I think there are a few killers. I only play killer when qeue times for survivor are high enough because I think how this game is supposed to be played. Change sides when there too much people playing one side.
Also emblem system is weird, as a rank 7 killer you will be already playing with red ranks while playing survivor is more linear until you reach green ranks at least. Top killers will remain on rank 1 but the good enough killers will be around purple ranks because there are killers that they play and are not that good with (this can't happen on surv side) so they depip.
For example when I tryhard my main (huntress) I can get to red ranks, but at the moment I switch to another killer my rank drops and I start being paired with worse survivors, then i switch again and go up again. But I can't stay at 1-2 ranks as i do as a survivor because I would need to play only one character to do that.
Now comes the funny thing, we already know by a fact that a lot of killers stay in purple ranks although they are more experienced players. We also know that each month rank reset one color. So after reset all matchmaking is messed up. The match making can't fix itself in time and the next reset makes things worse. So a lot of experienced players that don't play that much each month stay in lower ranks. With these and more factors qeues have to adapt fake data to match a few killer players with a lot of survivor players. This is not better thanks to the stressful process on being a killer. Add it up to the toxicity a killer have to face, that eventually provoke a break from keep playing.
In a few words, in theory matchmaking need 1 killer for each 4 survivors. But as killers need to take a break earlier you will need a filler. So now you need 2 killers for each 4 survivors, which is bad because thats 25% (in reality is 25 * probability of a break so a bit less) more in a game when most of the player base wants to play survivor. I don't have the data to run this numbers but it could be worse depending of how bad are my assumptions.

Because, according to killer mains they're all leaving, despite the game only becoming easier, I think they're fed up of all those OP perks survivors have like Head On & Calm Spirit.
1 -
Good good, let the dark side flow through you.

It's a mix of your rank and a lack of people playing killer. If you get to a higher rank, you should find matches quicker.
But due to a lack of killers, you still won't have instant survivor lobbies.
0 -
It's not that they're leaving. It's that they already left. Playing against high rank survivors (especially SWF) is stressful and not fun for a lot of people. Hence why they all left. People aren't going to play a video game they don't find enjoyable.
We can only hope when the next update drops a lot of old killer mains return. Or else this game is in serious trouble. Survivor mains will eventually get bored of the constant long queue times that end with an ez match against a low rank killer.
6 -
Killer is as stressful as you MAKE it. People need to stop acting like its all swf death squads that bully and 'rush' gens, because its not.
4 -
I played 5 games yesterday, all of them were a 3-man or more. One group even had 2 bloody pink keys. I don't know if it's just South East Asia being freaking monkeys about this game or what but I get >2man swfs a lot.
1 -
We have the same exact experience, also killers gives out way more BP, if you don't camp hook that is ironically.
What platform are you on? Have you checked Steam charts the game is killing it these days and that's without counting Switch/Xbox/PS4/windows store when cross platform eventually comes.
I they did leave well they got replaced then.

So what other reason could there be? Certainly matchmaking is to fault as well but if it didn't have anything to do with a shortage of killer players, surely both sides would face equal problems with long queue times.
0 -
I don't see how killers keep coming to this conclusion when they were in the same spot two years ago, killer lobbies taking upwards of 20 minutes for no reason what so ever, do you think it was due to a lack of survivors? I highly doubt that, seems weird that these issues started occurring the day after they made a patch to match making
1 -
Yeah, I actually did believe that back then and still do. Otherwise, again, both sides would have had to deal with bad queue times evenly. If only one side seems to have to deal with longer queue times at average, that's most likely because not enough people are playing the other side.
Again, matchmaking is part of the problem as well, I'm sure of that, but I doubt it has nothing to do with the game not having enough people playing killers, at least at high ranks.
3 -
Yeah killer does earn points easier, if as you say, you play the game normally and don't just face camp the hook. With certain killers better at earning deviousness points than others. Since everything you do as killer, earns you points. Finding survivors, hitting them, hooking them, using your power. Everything you would logically do anyway, rewards you points. If you have bbq, well if a game goes decent and you can hook everyone at least once. Well, hello double blood points.
Since a survivor can do all five gens but still get very few blood points, due to lack of hook saves, due to others getting the saves. Not being able to help or aid their team mates in healing up [for any number of reasons, like simply being unable to find them] or being very good at avoiding the killer or being very bad at looping, leading to few boldness points. That or a survivor gets chased around all game or for a majority of it, leading to many boldness points but few objective points. A survivor can be very useful to their team, be it looping the killer around or doing gens but not get many points for doing so. On average, odds are you will earn way more from a killer game than a survivor one.

Yeah, PC rank 16 much different Kappa

The steam charts only show the amount of people playing. They don't show the amount playing killer or survivor.
3 -
Yes the game is still growing. The problem is most people playing and new players joining us barely touch the killer side of the game. DBD has always had this problem but recently it's gotten out of hand. Hence the lack of red/purple rank killers and the lengthy queue times for survivors during peak playing hours (3:00 PM to 1:00 AM).
1 -
I could agree that the matchmaking is at fault (and is the only problem) if there were long queues on both sides but it's not.
Only survivors are getting the long queue times and killers are getting instant matches
To me, there definitely is something else going on
1 -
On mobile it's the opposite problem. Survivor queues are near instant and killer can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes. Since on mobile you really want quick games it's not even worth trying to play killer.
Plus the bot AI for survivors is garbage. They fast vault for no reason and then get stuck running into windows without vaulting until the crows give them away and killers down them.
The killer AI on the other hand is relentless and once they see you they will not stop until they down you, even if they were already chasing an injured survivor and you are healthy.
They also come straight back to the hook if you are unhooked rather than patrolling gens.

Probably true there but I also think once the MMR is in and with the future map change that's coming it might help boost killer population. Some of these map are bonkers 😂.

Killers don't have unique matchmaking rules...it'd make sense that matchmaking is the culprit if the victim has the more complex matchmaking mechanics.
Besides, matchmaking isn't the only thing affecting queue times. I also agree that the ranking system and regional disparity can play a huge role. Just not as big a role as matchmaking does.

What do you mean killers dont have unique matchmaking rules?

All the good Killers left
1 -
There is only one way to queue up for killer
0 -
2/6 isn't 25%. I like your idea that survivors have shorter matches than killers, which could definitely be a big factor. As usual, I highly doubt there are more than 4x as many survivors queuing up as killers. Being able to play as a horror icon is a major draw for this game.
0 -
25% increased. If you have 4 players ready and you need another one 1/4= 0.25 That's what I mean. It was bad explanation. It's more visual with 1/5 increased. My bad.

Think a lot of killers have just moved on. When I play killer and check profiles which I do often, I see survivors that have 3k-5k hours all the time. When I check killer profiles at the end of the game. On average these killers have 400-800 hours played. I can't remember the last time I've faced a killer that had 2k+ hours. Which it used to be pretty darn common. Could be that I just never get matched up with them. But I have a sneaky suspicion that there is a large portion of the killer base that either switched sides or moved on.

Not enough killers on your rank.
I have identical problem in red rank as survivor. I usually have to wait between 10 and 20 minutes for a game.
Killer however is instant for me.

It literally depends on platform, region, day and time of day. I played yesterday (solo) on PC was getting into matches within 15 seconds. I was rank 15 and finished at rank 10 without any delay throughout. It was always fast.
I switched over to PS4 later in the afternoon and played with friends in various states at rank 1 and it was taking up to 10 minutes and we played until 11pm PST. I'm in N.A. and console matchmaking has been really bad and has been bad since dedicated servers were implemented even at higher ranks where that was never a problem.
When they temporarily disabled Xbox servers and it was PVP again, it was quick as well. When they went back to dedicated, the wait times returned.
Personally, I think dedicated servers are killing the game on console and I would rather have laggy matches every now and then, versus the 10 minute plus wait times. Since PC is not as bad, I don't see this being too much a problem, but console players will not support or play this game if it continues to take forever to play.
1 -
You should. Everyone should, at least part of the time. The more people that we have that play both side, the more balanced discussions will become.
2 -
Count me in for making it worse on ps4 tonight! If you're NA green ranks, try nurse tonight. You'll get better. Don't give up.

If they had 2 bloody pink keys, they most likely weren't queuing up together (i.e. swf). I wouldn't be surprised that most matches where you thought you were going against 3-4 man squads, you were actually playing against randoms who maybe just played better.. and the team that you destroyed was actually in an swf lobby

I checked their steam profiles after the game, full 4man. One key was a free-escape key and one was a 'killer aura xd' key.
Annoying game to say the least.
0 -
I didn't realise you actually checked. I retract my comment.
Feels bad man, that's as sweaty as it gets. I bet no one in that match got over 20k points - in my experience that's what happens when either side sweats too much

Survivor queues have been pretty bad on PC the last few days.. Was waiting 15-20 minutes for matches today at Red Ranks. Killer queues were instant though.
0 -
That game did suck, but I was playing plague for the purpose of getting BP without actually ranking up so at least I didn't lose out much. I just wish those ez-escape-keys were easier to spot, they take all the fun out of games; I could set up a great 3-gen and play to my strengths but if they have a key I guess I'm just #########, yknow? Doesn't matter that they got themselves into a losing situation, they have a get-out-of-jail-free item.

Not enough Killers playing. I had to retire from being a Killer main myself because my heart pressure would rise too much when playing Killer. It's just not fun and I'd rather not suffer a heart attack please and thank you.
1 -
Mainly because playing killer lately is like having your teeth pulled without anesthetic.

Pip is definetly not the main reason lol, imagine some cares about pips. What is this useless mechanic doing? Exactly, nothing.
