the worst lore so far😡 (kate denson: back to zero)

This is one of the stories that I was most anxiously waiting for (my joy was even greater when I realized that you can easily unlock it in tome 1)

Too disappointing,

they hardly tell us anything new about Kate's life. everything takes place in one place and in one moment. (kate walks through the forest for inspiration, she can't get the sinister melody out and in the end she explores the cave, wow 😒)

they leave loose ends (who is anna?).

I certainly expected something better from this character, what a waste of lore.

I have I assume to ever wrote it got paid every time I put down the word of muse.

As for the story itself there's nothing really interesting it brings up in relation to Kate.

It does however bring up an interesting note that just like The Entity can choose the people who will become killers and slowly corrupt them before taking them it might in fact stalk who will become survivors before taking them.

It's quite possible some of the other characters we play have had run-ins with The Entity multiple times before the actually got captured

But as for stuff it details about Kate absolutely nothing also it now made me hate the word Muse

    Anna is the huntress

If you mention it I guess is because in the first note is written Anna, but that is a mistake, the observer actually says Kate, but someone wrote Anna instead of Kate

Very correct. I main a few survivors, Kate being one. Absolutely trash "lore", if you can even call it that. Every other survivor and killer gives detailed insight to what makes them, well, them. Kate got shafted, nothing new, nothing interesting. Just exploring the woods with her music. Just awful to Kate mains. You're not alone OP, and the sad part is she may never get new lore considering this was her lore. Lmao, just pathetic.

Here's a different way to look at Kate's lore.

She has a corrupted melody floating in her head. It's 'murdering her muse' and she betrayed her foundations. Guilt and depression would give the Entity a way in. And call her.

But she managed to escape the Entity.

Pity. Cause she would have made a really cool lyrical killer . Huntress' lullaby already messes with Survivors' checks. Surely Kate could have been a bit deadlier with her song.

I'm hoping the next section has more for her.

    thank you!

All the text was "kate wants that cursed melody out of her mind"

    for 5 texts

They could have talked about all her shows, or how she was raised but nope

I hadn't seen Kate's full lore until now, but yes it really is the worst.

I mean, at least Spirit's retcon into "Actually she was a latent raging homicidal maniac all along!" was a little interesting and tied her together with The Oni.

Kate's lore is just 5 pages of "back to zero", "ominous melody", "muse", and "I must clear my mind". If they were trying to convey that the Entity originally wanted her to become a Killer and that she rebuked it, that could have been done a lot better.

Like, instead of being alone she's with a group of friends: and the Entity tries to drive her insane and manipulate her into killing them.

Or if they were going for a "she's losing her grip on sanity" angle, they could demonstrate that by detailing what she's doing and show us the structure of her thoughts deteriorating. Something besides just telling us "evil cave is evil and plays some catchy evil music" over and over.

Instead what we got was nothing. Literally just fluff that is told to us by her bio.

We already know that the Entity's presence is familiar to Kate. We already know that she liked going alone into accursed and isolated spots where unthinkable horrors left blasphemous stains upon the very face of the earth (for some reason). We already know that music and singing are as important to her as breathing.

We just got 5 pages reaffirming this along with a cinematic that almost retconned how the Entity kidnapped, but then didn't at the last second. To show us that she was strong willed enough to resist it's call, I guess? (And stupid enough to go back to that or another, similarly, unholy site of esoteric horror and antediluvian evil.)

Like, I appreciate that we got lore. I appreciate that it comes with cinematics AND narration. I appreciate that it wasn't delayed by the global pandemic.

But that doesn't change the fact that it was really bad.

Like, if the devs are already going to put money and effort into this, couldn't they at least have someone proofread it?

Kate's lore in this rift was written with the same effort that it took to rework Nurse's add-ons. Actually, scrap that. At least for the Nurse they had some diverse ideas, though terrible. For Kate, we get 5 entries of the same thing. The only decent part is that it ties in with the original lore by Benedict, where she's described as harboring a hidden strength and she might be the first one to have actually managed to resist the Entity's grasp.

However, they could've given us something, anything. Maybe details of her past life, maybe elaborate on her bond to Entity beside "the melody in her head" regurgitated over 5 entries, maybe an account of how the first encounter with the Entity affected her. As I said, something, anything. Anything but the same bland old song (pun intended) repeated 5 times. Or, maybe, that was exactly the point, which would be even more tragic.

Yeah, her lore and video weren’t really anything special. No wonder you could complete it all on the first level of the Tome.

Actually a decent handful of the survivors are well known within their communities.

Min was The Shining lion and a member of laser bears had crowds coming to watch her gaming considering her lore said that she had a specifically find places where people didn't know about gaming there's no way she wouldn't be missed.

Ace and David well not famous like Min were very information that Communities for what they like to partake in gambling and debt collecting respectively

Honestly I don't know where the concept of The Entity choose his people who won't be missed even came from.

I can only really see that point being argued for the first 4 original survivors after them that kind of just dropped by the wayside

I still think Jane’s is the worst, but I agree that Kate’s is pretty disappointing. I hope when they eventually get to Yui that her story lives up to my expectations seeing as all my main survivor’s archives have been pretty disappointing (apart from Claudette’s)

I must disagree with all present, I think Jane's lore was one of the best written so far, David's was super lacking because really, just another douche doing douche things because he had a bad childhood, really? But I found Kate's to be lacking, although the video of her managing to escape the entity's grasp was at least a little interesting.

In my opinion I don't really think that's the case.

Claudette lore offered a new perspective on why she is introvert but also a new perspective on how people treated her outside of the entity's game. The person she grew up to be is because she realised that she didn't have to follow a bell curve and you want everyone else was doing.

David's story reinforced one thing about his character he's a douchebag true but he does genuinely care about those close to him and would put his life on the line to protect them and this is before The Entity came into his life. He does this because he appreciate having people actually stick by him even if he didn't have anything to offer not like the fake friends he used to hang around with who was only around him because he had money and didn't want anything to do with him otherwise.

Jane's backstory was a decent looking into the creative industry and how corrupt it can be ( terrible and offensive productions get made because hacks have money) but in the grand scheme of things offered very little to do with Jane besides describing how she became a chat show host. Well I do agree it interesting and well-written it doesn't really feel like a dead by daylight story and it gives very little insight into what makes Jane well Jane

Kate's story as I've said in my comment above was creating expanding the lore entity I like the idea of how it could possibly play just a big of a role in the survivors lives before taking them as it does The Killers ( The dark Impulse felt by Frank and Rin's father before The Entity changed its mind on him)

However this is Kate archives not the entity's so why am I learning almost next to nothing about Kate and more about The Entity.

As for Jane I think her story is a lot better than Kate's at least we got a flair of Jane's personality even if it was only mild.

Min and Yui are my two mains when it comes to survivors so I hope they don't give them the Kate treatment when their stories come up
