A DBD Tournament Ruleset Suggestion
Hi, AeroLink here. With my years of experience competing in Super Smash Bros. including a few traditional fighting games, I made a ruleset that can be the best way to determine the better team in a competitive environment for Dead By Daylight.
Now I know that DBD is largely not considered a competitive game, much less an esport, however I believe a competitive community can still exist. You can look no further than the Super Smash Bros. series as an example of an intended party game having a competitive following.
Anyway, here is the ruelset:
One team of survivors and killer vs. another team of survivors and killer in a best 2 out of 3 sets to win the entire match.
Game 1 - Team 1 Survivors vs. Team 2 Killer
Game 2 - Team 1 Killer vs. Team 2 Survivors
Game Win conditions:
Survivor - 3 or 4 man escape
Killer - 3 or 4 sacrifices
2 man escape/2K is a tie
(2 game wins) or (1 tie and 1 game win) results in set win.
1 game win from both teams results in a tiebreaker game (game 3 of the set).
Tiebreaker (game 3):
The team with the least amount of time of their game win, picks 1 of 2 options:
1. Choose to play as a survivor team or killer and ban 3 maps.
2. Select the map after bans are declared.
The other team picks the remaining option. Then characters are selected.
Winner wins the set.
If there is a game tie, roles are switched between the opposing teams on the same map for game 4.
If there is a game tie on the 2nd tiebreaker game (game 4), roles are switched again between opposing teams and the map is decided by the team that didn't pick option 2 for game 5.
Repeat until winner is decided (a different map is chosen every 2 games by the team that didn't pick the last map).
All perks are legal.
All items/add-ons are legal.
All offerings are legal.
All maps are legal.
Exceptions:
Ebony/Ivory Memento Mori is banned.
Skeleton/Dull Key is banned.
Higher seed chooses whether to strike first or not; otherwise rps or coin flip to decide.
Starter maps: Coal Tower in addition to 4 of the other most balanced maps considered by the community (to be decided).
Killers, perks, and add-ons are secret (not required to inform) before the start of the game.
Order of the match:
1. Strike maps in an order of 1-2-2-1 (1 is first team, 2 is second team). Map is decided for set 1.
2. Characters are selected.
3. Winner of the set bans 3 maps for the next set.
4. Loser of the set chooses map for the next set.
5. Characters are selected.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 until match winner is decided.

As an afterthought, there should be a minimum of 4 players (1 player can play both roles) and a maximum of 5 players (1 player can choose to only play Killer) to a team.

I would absolutely adore a competitive scene for this game, but unfortunately, the amount of RNG and bugs kinda kill this games competative aspects.
Want to play nurse? Heres a bunch of random deadzones.
Want to play spirit? Heres the chance of survivors making no audio due to a bug thats been in the game for like what? 6 months? and it can destroy a game for a spirit.
Even down to the tiles you get it's RNG, and one pallet at competitive play can possibly either get the killer a 1k or 3k. Doesn't help that literally every second literally has an impact on the match.
I could go on with how powerful survivors actually are at that level but id have to write a full novel to explain it.
I just don't think adding any rules could make this game fun and fair at a tournament level. Don't get me wrong IMO this game is competitive, but ever since ruin was removed its just waaaay to RNG dependent and completely in the survivors control.

you shouldn't allow addons or items above rare and offerings should be banned period, this would create a more balanced competitive setting otherwise you could get people using 4 heal medkit, all anti hook offerings, clutch addons, ect.
you can't have clutches or items that can last all game and call that competitive. limiting all items/addons to rare or below gets ride of nearly all unfair addons and prevents people from bringing in items that can last all game.
edit: as for perks i think anything is fine since if it's competitive someone should be doing all the totems to find potential devour or to stop noed and there isn't a survivor perk that can ruin the game for the killer except DS but the killer can just slug

I'd like to make them legal first and see if it would be too much of a problem. From my competitive experience, players have been able to adapt to strong strategies.
The reason I ban Moris and Keys, with the exception of the Broken Keys and Cypress Moris, is because the game becomes degenerate and overcentralizing with them included. I believe the add-ons can be dealt with just fine given how strong they are. I'd prefer to give players time to develop counterplay before considering a ban.

I liked what the Official DBD Discord did with their "Survive the staff" tournaments.
